The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

Trump’s legal team doesn’t appear to be defending him at all. I don’t know if they really believe that the president can do whatever he wants or if they are playing to Fox News knowing that the base will be too stupid to understand that they’re merely being fed sound bites on Hannity?
 
I truly don't understand the GOP strategy here.

  1. If this really is just a sham "Witch Hunt" and the president is innocent, why not permit witnesses and documents so that the President can prove his innocence? How much worse for Democrats could it get? After all this, the president proves his innocence. Wow! Devastation, Right?
  2. If Republicans know that Trump is guilty AF, why not take the opportunity right now, join together, and run the sword completely through Trump and rid themselves of this man? Sure, a few Senators might lose their seats. But the majority might not be in play and they'll finally rid themselves of their scourge, right? It worked with Nixon. They took a hit but quickly recovered.
  3. If they feel like Trump is a useful idiot to appoint judges and kill regulation, why not dump him now and roll with Pence?
  4. If they feel like having a real trial is conceding to Democrats, what do they think November 2020 will be like? Most of the country supports having a real trial over a sham trial. The nonsense being pulled today almost guarantees the loss of the White House and Senate. Do you really want President Warren, Sanders, or Biden appointing judges for the foreseeable future? You've already given us 10+ governor's mansions and hundreds of seats. I guess you want a beatdown that will last for the next decade?
  5. Finally, have they thought this through? When hasn't it not gotten worse? Have they already forgotten what happened with Mueller? Like the very next day after Mueller testified, Trump committed arguably his biggest crime yet, the phone call and holding of Ukrainian aid. Sure, maybe this whole impeachment thing blows over in a few weeks and people begin to forget... Lev Parnas isn't going away anytime soon. Rudy won't ever shut up. John Bolton's book is still going to be published and will most likely reveal some explosive details about this scandal. And as we've seen throughout history, Trump isn't going to stop criming.
So it's only ever going to get worse. I really don't understand the GOP strategy here. And the precedent will be set for a future Democrat to ignore traditional norms. I have a warning to all Republicans on this board, I feel pretty damn strongly about universal health care and gun control. Just as strongly as you do about guns, taxes, and abortion. Maybe I'll excuse President Warren working with China to eviscerate your 2024 candidate because "Mah health care and gun control" is more important than constitutional norms? In the not too distant future, a Democrat may buy off porn stars, use their properties for profit, sell off cabinet positions to enrich friends, collude with foreign governments, and obstruct justice. What will you say to Democrats when they excuse these actions because getting their "judges, health care, and gun control" were more important?

So please, remember the precedent you're setting.

I for one would say that in that case you should turn your back on the Dems to preserve the rule of law, like I have turned my back on Trump and his Republican supporters. But that's just me. I've no idea what the Republicans who have continued to support Trump would be able to say to you without hypocrisy.

Oh I get it. You have integrity. I hope i have the same integrity...

and I know enough about history to know how quickly democracies are lost. But “mah judges, health care, and gun control” are tempting. And republicans won’t have a leg to stand on to complain if liberals throw our country away for agenda wins. It would be sad. But at this point, I really couldn’t blame them. Look at how much more seriously Adam Schiff has prepared than any of his republican clown counterparts.

I personally am getting a little tired of waiting for republicans to “snap” out of giggling about destroying our democracy.

HOWIE CARR: Trump’s Only Crime Is Being Trump.

Forget the two “counts” against President Trump in the Senate trial that begins today, the reality is he is charged with only one crime.

He is accused of being Donald J. Trump.

For that high crime, the Democrats say, he must be removed from office.

The Democrat “House managers” are going to get 24 hours over the next two days to lay out their opening arguments, but how are they going to fill that time, considering that they’re not even accusing him of committing any crimes?

Certainly no actual felonies — you know, Bill Clinton stuff like obstruction of justice, perjury and suborning perjury.

They just accuse him of being … Donald J. Trump.

For that they need 24 hours?

How are Schiff, Nadler, et al., going to fill those hours? Are they going to talk about how he puts ketchup on steaks? And then orders two scoops of ice cream for dessert?

Considering all the airtime they have to fill, maybe the Democrats can include a Greatest Hits compilation of all the other fake-news fantasies they’ve entertained over the last three years for getting rid of Trump:

Jill Stein’s recount (before Hillary was accused of being a Russian asset), faithless electors, emoluments clause, the 25th Amendment, Hillary’s fake dossier, the Russian hoax, firing crooked James Comey, senile Bob Mueller and his 19 angry Democrats, Michael Cohen, Michael Avenatti (pre-indictments), Stormy Daniels, Brett Kavanaugh frame-up, tax returns, loans guaranteed by Russian oligarchs … .

And now, the Ukraine hoax.

What are the high crimes and misdemeanors committed by Trump? Record high numbers of Americans working, the stock market at record highs. Favorable trade deals, ISIS destroyed, millions off welfare and food stamps.

They never feared Trump failing. They feared his success, and that’s unforgivable.

The least you could do is fact check your information, and get the timeline correct. Some of the tweets you have posted contain erroneous information, or, in this case, were revised upon further testimony. You're just like your boy Trump. Just sling the ****, and actually think nobody will notice or care....

Canadian Ted is full of crap but if the GOP is so concerned about corruption how about we investigate Trump and his kids. They are making a ton of money off his presidency. Where is his taxes as he promised? What about all the Chinese patents pushed through for Ivanka. His son-in-law is crooked too.

So if all this is made up why is Trump blocking evidence and not permitted his administration to cooperate with the investigation. Trump says he has proof the call was perfect. Release the entire transcript. GOP says that all the Democrat witnesses are second hand (not true) so allow the people that were in the loop to testify. Then Americans can decide for themselves and if he has the truth it should set him free. Trump said he would like to go to the trial and stare down the evil democrats. Go ahead prove you are not a coward and testify under oath like Clintons did.

Just today Trump bragged about the trial going well for him. His reasoning we have all the evidence. Guy is as bright as a rock. He admitted to keeping evidence from Congress the exact charge against him. Trump is right about one thing. If he murdered someone on 5th avenue his followers would just look the other way. The reason why Trump won't testify is because he knows he has done what he is being accused of (bragged about it on national TV) and his lawyers know he would perjure himself. This is what has become of the law and order party (not true just their claim) it only matters if it is a democrat and heaven forbid if Obama had done something like this. He would have been impeached and tried for treason and hung at sunset.

There has already been an investigation about Joe Biden's son and according to Ukraine he did nothing wrong. Teddy needs to show the pile of evidence he says exist, which it doesn't. Teddy has no problem going on TV an lying because he knows conservatives will believe what he says regardless of the truth. typical GOP throwing mud up against the wall and seeing what sticks. Just like Rudy going to Ukraine to do his own investigate and he has squat. I am still waiting for Trump finding of Obama birth certificate forgery.
