We all knew this would eventually be their argument:

Any senator who votes to acquit is voting to enable an all-powerful executive. This will have dire consequences on foreign policy, our democracy, and essentially erases impeachment from the Constitution. Any senator who votes to acquit should be voted out of office immediately.

Joe lives in a world where anyone he disagrees with believes laws should only be enforced on the ones they hate.

In an effort to blow smoke in your face, he says "well XXXXXX did it", and in his mind it's ok.

Hint: it's not ok. If someone else did the same thing, we need to open a separate case, as I'm confident it will always be different, but perhaps should be questioned.

Did the GAO declare that Obama had committed a crime? Sorry if you posted a link... if so, I missed it. I'll be happy to read the article. While I think Obama was a FAR better president than Trump is, he definitely had faults and I didn't vote for him either time.

You don't need a lot of skill to tell people what they want to hear. You only need lack moral fiber.

One of the 7 was reversed, and the only one Obama was involved in seems to be the prisoner exchange.

I mean, I have similar issues whenever I have relations with Russian hookers. It's a very common problem.

Because Sirkickyass isn't just a partisan hack, on Friday, I went to the "Deplorables Comedy Tour" in Mesa. This event was, in effect, a MAGA rally with jokes. Afterwards, I spent time asking other attendees what they thought of the show. Everyone I asked was willing to give me extended opinions, including Linda from Houston and John from Peoria with the wildly grammatically incorrect Russian MAGA hat (pictured). No one asked me what I thought - my cover as a secret liberal was not blown. That I was there, and not one of them, was apparently unthinkable.

    The biggest takeaways:

    1. This was barely a comedy show. Only one performer, Steve "Mudflap" McGrew, did a set that would be recognizable on Comedy Central as within the stand up genre (he was also, by far, the funniest). Most speakers literally began with "I'm not a standup but...." Instead it was a full-on political rally, particularly aimed at the exciting the base to campaign for Martha McSally against Mark Kelly. There was a palpable sense that AZ is now purple and was at risk of having two Democratic Senators.

    2. Objectively, this show was not very popular. Ikeda theater's capacity is 1,600. I asked people who worked there how many tickets they sold and they indicated it was at 70% of capacity - so less than 1,200 tickets sold. For a metro area of almost five million, and the highest population Trump county in the country, that is really not that much. For comparison, drag queens sold out Comerica theater in December with a seating capacity of 5,000. Numerically, they are at least 3 times as popular as the MAGA crew in this city.

    3. The biggest uniting theme of this event was transphobia. Literally every speaker made some version of the "can you believe these 72 genders" or "I identify as a unicorn/attack helicopter/whatever" joke. It got a HUGE laugh every time. This is apparently the social issue that enjoys the largest amount of consensus at a MAGA rally.

    4. By contrast - the crowd largely did not respond to jokes about global warming being a hoax or just being "weather." It is possible that the tide on this issue has turned, even among the Red Hats.

    5. The audience was old and very white. One (african american) comedian observed that the room was full of "good credit scores." The average age of the audience might be lower at an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical on Broadway.

    6. There was a large amount of transactional politics occurring at this event. Twice, an act started with asking all members of the police or military to stand so that everyone else could honor them. This was phrased as "the most important thing we can do." One speaker, a former cop, described that he became a Republican because Obama criticized the police. The MAGA group has a tribal identification thing going - if you're a member of the police or the army then we, and only we, give you respect. Every single person I talked to after the show had family members in one of these two professions.

    7. If you've ever wondered who those animations of Trump bodyslamming CNN are for: it's these people. They showed a LOT of them before the show and coming out of intermission. The crowd HOWLED with laughter. I thought the guy next to me might need new pants.

    8. Many of the people I spoke with, particularly Linda (pictured), believe that Trump was sent here by God. Linda got involved in politics in the 1980s because she was a Pat Robertson supporter and gathered groups of friends to take over precinct meetings in her area. Her son is a products liability attorney who ran for judge in Texas in 2016. He eventually lost because the party, including his own mother, decided to mobilize against him because he supported Ted Cruz instead of Donald Trump. She came all the way from Texas for the show and told me that she truly believed God wanted her to be here to show that she supported the President.

Lastly, it was notable what was NOT at this show. While many said it was impossible to impeach this President there was no discussion of the impeachment itself. The word Ukraine was not uttered one time. I asked several people why Trump was being impeached after the show. The universal response was a variation of "because they hate him."

This is tribal for the hard core MAGA supporters. They've invested themselves in Trump as an idea that borders on idolatry. Worth my ticket and my evening to see it first hand.

The term "debunked" has come to mean "any fact that liberals would prefer to forget about." If a conservative politician failed to turn over 30K of subpoenaed emails under the exact same circumstances you and the rest of the left (including the mainstream media) would go bonkers. There's no way you would accept the sort of flimsy excuse that the Clinton team put forward. Even if her almost implausible excuse is true (that some third party just happened to delete these emails without her knowledge after they were subpoenaed), the chain of events that created a situation where emails directed to and from a government employee with high-level security clearance could be allowed to exist on a private server points to, at the very least, carelessness at a massive level... yet the left simply did not care because Hillary was their candidate at the time.

Relitigating HRC emails..... right on cue!

I’m not sure how HRC’s unethical behavior makes IMPOTUS’s unethical behavior any better.

kinda like saying “well, Stalin killed millions, so trump ain’t so bad. “

I live in a world where I have become extremely disenchanted with the mainstream media and the version of the story they are telling people. Despite what some here imply, I get my news from a wide variety of sources. I live in a world where I wish that politicians on both sides were better, but I know that they are not and I have little hope that quality people will ever be able to rise to the top in the toxic, narcissistic-centric system that we have created, so I'm no longer willing to handcuff conservative politicians who support the principles I believe in by subjecting them to standards that are clearly not being enforced against liberal politicians. I live in a world where I believe that if nothing other than the party affiliations of the key players were switched that more than 95% of the people here would be making nearly the opposite argument from the one they are currently making.

Respect, and even sympathy, for your post. I'm quoting this one piece, because I think a lot of this situation with Trump's impeachment boils down to this sentiment. I don't know if anything Obama did was criminal, but let's concede the notion there was something he did on that level, and he got away with it. The difference with Trump is how far Dems have been able to successfully pursue correcting his corruption. What you're saying is we should just allow all politicians to be corrupt, as long as they represent the platform we identify with. If Trump accomplishes this, do you realize the precedent created will allow all presidents from now on to lie, cheat, and behave unethically? At this point, we can confidently say both Nixon and Clinton were impeached for less than Trump. If he is successful, nothing any of them has done will be impeachable. Are you saying that is what you want...?
