Conley is a chemistry problem and we should trade him

There’s no way in hell OKC is trading Paul for our “garbage.” If they’re looking to clear salary, they can do better than that.
They couldn’t trade him for ANYTHING over the summer. He’s a distressed asset at that age and number, but he’s still a really good player on a team going nowhere.

To put the money in perspective, OKC would save $50-$80 million real dollars by trading CP3 for Conley. Conversely, the Jazz would be taking ON that money but probably more since it will almost certainly push them above the tax in his last year.

After reading through the threads, it sounds like we're going to have to live with our mistake and just make the best of the situation and hope he comes around. I do think we need to re-introduce Mudiay back into the rotation to play with JC. They had good chemistry. I think Mudiay should take some of Mike's minutes and maybe take a few minutes from Donovan and give them to Mike. Not really sure.

No to cp3. His contract is 1 year too long. Rudy and Donnovans contracts will fill up Conley's current salary placehold. If some team Is willing to take Conley and give back expiring deals for next offseason that's realistic.
At this point Mike needs to nut up and play like an alfa Male and quit playing the role of sad beta boy. If he can't figure it in the next few games out Mudiay should be getting his minutes. Period.

There's no denying that the Jazz were humming after the Clarkson trade. Some say that they found their identity then. No doubt the absence of Green and Davis enabled others to step up. Not sure if their is a correlation between the surge and the absence of Mike as well, but it's hard to argue that there isn't one.
No it's not. They played better when the schedule got east and struggled once the schedule got tough again.

Why do we just assume that CP3 is going to fit in seamlessly when he is very similar to Conley, except maybe more ball dependent?

CP3 is at another level as a player. With him we actually would have a chance for a championship. But do the Jazz want to take a chance and put all their marbles on him not getting hurt?

I don't know if Conleys struggle is a mental thing, he looks healthy tbh. Doc Rivers once said when they traded Perk they removed Garnett's shield. Affected his game. These things don't show on stat sheets but is valuable. Conley might still be looking for his shield. Like Shumpert/Jr to Lebron. Like hassan/Chris Andersen to heat. Just my 2 useless cents.

What concers me is the ammount of time it seems to be taking. I dont think this is just a system thing.

Clarkson seemed to pick things up pretty quick. If i have time later I'll dig up a few quotes for comparison. Clarkson says it is pretty simple to play Jazz basketball, Conley says it is complicated...requires a phd.

Sure they play slightly different roles but even if their roles were vastly different I gotta believe a training camp and half a season is plenty of time to catch on.
Completely different roles. It took Rubio quite awhile.

I keep hearing this statement that the jazz need conley because he could get the jazz a championship. Ive heard players repeat this sentiment as well and im miffed as to why conley is the missing piece? Has conley ever won a championship? How many playoff series has he won. Maybe hes a top 10 player in the league and perrenial all star who is a game changer? Is he an elite defender who can turn a game on that end? What exactly does he bring that say mudiay didnt?
He has won playoff series against better talented teams. It's not him specifically that's a difference maker it's a need for another really good player who can do what he does and be a floor leader. If we could trade him for someone else that can do that fine. But we probably can't so we need him to fit in to the system and get comfortable so he can okay like he has his whole career and be a big difference maker. He is a very good player.

The concern is that during our recent successful run the last thing anyone said was "hey we really need another point guard to put us over the top". He was and remains a non-factor. He is redundant in the worst way, as in mudiay was playing better than Conley is now. We could have used mudiay last night to at least throw another big body at Gordon. I'm not saying mudiay would have won us the game, but with his effort and progress this season he has at least earned the PT. How has Conley earned the PT?
He has earned playing time by being a really good player his entire career and has shown he is much better than mudiay. Our ceiling is higher with Conley.

I get CP3 being much better than Conley, but our team would still be short of rebounding and size everywhere on the roster out of Rudy.

Anyway, the the picks protections is the part of the Conley trade that i really hate, that really prevents us of making other moves (like moving Conley, or trading for a stretch four that's higher than 6'4" without shoes).

CP is a really good rebounder. So he’d even help out there a bit.

If they could it would be done. They tried to do a Heat deal but Miami wants to preserve cap space for the Giannis FA period... NY is the same...

There aren’t many places to move him... if they find one they should do it.

Do you think NY will do better with 30M in cap space this summer than Mike? They can also retain Morris who they love.

Do you think OKC would take all expirings for CP? That 7 seed is built on old players and SGA... not sure they want to keep paying top dollar for old guys when they should be building around SGA and young dudes.

OKC is one knee injury, Achilles year, foot problem, etc... from being on the hook for the remaining 2.5 years on that deal. They already got like three first for Westbrook... offloading CP is found money.

NY and OKC could say no, but I think it’s really doable/reasonable.

The only reason we wouldn’t do it is money... and it’s a lot, but we can’t expect to win a title without going into the tax imo... GS had everything break right for them contract wise and still paid loads of tax. it would be a one year tax issue and there are thing you could do to mitigate it if need be.

When Conley expires and walks (maybe) we will need to retool... kicking the can down a year but giving us a much better shot the next two years makes tons of sense to me.

Umm they aren’t all that similar. CP has fit in multiple “hard to fit” scenarios and done well... so I guess the fact that he’s done it twice in the last few years is why we are boldly saying he could do it.

CP has had success on and off ball. We need additional high level creation... right now mike isn’t giving that. He’d be fine... health and locker room disruption would be my concerns.
