Conley is a chemistry problem and we should trade him

I liked the idea of Conley on the Jazz much more than I like Conley on the Jazz. It just hasn't worked out the way I envisioned in the offseason when we acquired him, or the way anyone envisioned for that matter, including the front office and coaching staff. On paper it seemed like such a great fit. Maybe he'll return to form at some point and be the difference maker we all thought he was going to be, but so far he has been one of the biggest disappointment's in franchise history in my opinion.

Harden has the highest usage in the NBA and he did fine with him

Did he do fine? I mean they shipped him off for a worse player on a worse contract. Paul would crap his pants before he took a role as the third or 4th option. He’s a dick. It’s common knowledge. If he could come in with the humility Conley has I’d be all for it.

I don't like the idea of adding a ball dominant player like Chris Paul to a team that not only is winning but also has great chemistry overall and has an well-oiled offense during the season. The Jazz need, IMO, minor tweaks, like a slightly better reserve center or an athletic and long defensive winger. If it was up to me, I would try to add the Heat's James Johnson, perhaps in exchange for Conley and a few picks. Johnson is, IMO, all that the most optimisitic Jazz fans hoped Jeff Green would be.

Jebus... you want us to trade Conley and picks for Johnson... I mean you could just do JC straight up and they’d do it in one second.

I`m sure other posters have brought it up more eloquently than I will, but the guy I really want is Aron Baynes. He can shoot 3`s to some degree and has been a bonafide starter at times in his career. I think he`d give us a nice wrinkle as opposed to Bradley (who I like) but is really just a poor man`s Gobert in my mind. The wheels seem to be falling off in Phoenix and they may be looking out to get what they can out of a bad job.

I think Conley's humility is somewhat fake, TBH. If that wasn't the case, he would not take the 4th most shots on the team (15 per each 36 minutes) while shooting worst than thirteen other players (.377 from the field). Besides, the shots he takes he creates for himself, since only 21 percent of his two point FGs are assisted. In other words, he is the one deciding "it's time for me to take another shot", not Snyder. The fact is that the current Jazz team doesn't need his scoring and he still insists at being one. To make matters worse, he simply is not capable of being a scorer in this league at this point of his career. As I said in a post during the preseason, people always took Conley's coolness for smarts. I don't know if they were right at some point but now they surely aren't. Nowadays, Conley just misses a lot and then smiles, like it didn't really matter, hoping to captivate everyone. Most of the floaters that he takes, for instance, are amateur stuff: off rhythm, off balance, without even being able to fully extend his body, like if he isn't in basketball shape. Those moves of his are quite perplexing... and not in a good way.

I'm not talking about trading JC (Jordan Clarkson), but about getting rid of Conley and I'm not sure the Heat would trade him straight for James Johnson even if their salaries matched. I think they would not. But the fact is the salaries don't match: Conley makes 30m, while Johnson makes 14m. The Jazz would have to sweeten the deal somehow... The Jazz would get rid of Conley -- that, by itself, is addition by subtraction -- and would gain a veteran and still athletic forward who is used to playing sparingly.

I really don't buy that trading Conley is an option. I'm still a bad game or two away from writing him of completely but I am starting to think that he represents cement shoes for the team. The mixture is hardening, and the tide is coming in threatening to drown us.

If they could it would be done. They tried to do a Heat deal but Miami wants to preserve cap space for the Giannis FA period... NY is the same...

There aren’t many places to move him... if they find one they should do it.

Do you think NY will do better with 30M in cap space this summer than Mike? They can also retain Morris who they love.

Do you think OKC would take all expirings for CP? That 7 seed is built on old players and SGA... not sure they want to keep paying top dollar for old guys when they should be building around SGA and young dudes.

OKC is one knee injury, Achilles year, foot problem, etc... from being on the hook for the remaining 2.5 years on that deal. They already got like three first for Westbrook... offloading CP is found money.

NY and OKC could say no, but I think it’s really doable/reasonable.

They don’t love Morris necessarily. He’s just said publicly how he REALLY does not want to be traded.

CP3 would be the worst trade the Jazz could possibly consider. Why would anyone want to bring in another six foot nothing ball dominant point guard that regularly burns clock looking for his own? Career 4.5 assists in 35 played. Talk about somebody that's lost a step as well unlike Conley. This would be the worst possible trade for the Jazz as his perceived role would be Donovan's role. Horford I understand, A Gordon I understand, Griffin possibly as well, but CP3 would never fit in here. Conley has fit in and accepted a lesser role. He has some minor mental demons (shooting slump) to overcome that's all.

CP3, career assists 9.5; this year, 6.4. Don't know where you got your numbers.

CP can guard bigger guys so both guys are small but its very different. CP has played at a high level in four different place with four different types of teams... his game is more malleable.

I think CP just a much better player... only question is durability. You absolutely start him. He played with and made another ball dominant wing great with Harden... he ran lob city and was great with Capela. If teams deny the roll and hug the shooters he will murder the mid range... literally like the best in the league.

CP is a savant and the Point God... Mike was a borderline all star... its a massive difference.
To me it sounds the same as the comparisons to Rubio that people were making with Conley. Conley is a massive upgrade to Rubio, Conley can run the PNR like a wizard, he's a floor general, hes great on defense. I agree that CP3 is better than Conley in probably every way, but I just don't think it translates to the Jazz and what the Jazz do. It's digging yourself deeper into the hole Conley has created.

Yes he did fine with harden. Sometimes players get traded even when they play well

If Paul is as good as I remember him, he would be really good, as reliable a scorer as anybody on the Jazz team. The money, age, injury risk , plus my opinion that the Jazz need another big more than another PG, all lead me to think that he wouldn't be the best move. I'd be curious to see if the refs treated him the same if he played with the Jazz. It'd be an interesting experiment, but a very expensive one.
