Buyout Options

I can imagine a scenario where the Jazz were interested in DC and he wanted Houston. Takes two to make it happen. The Jazz may not make a move but I doubt they are sitting on their hands.

This is likely true... problem with the buyout market is guys just have to pick you... no money advantages and many other markets are more desirable. Outside of saying "we have 15 minutes a night for you guaranteed" we don't really have a super compelling argument. If Harkless is bought out this takes Houston out of the running. Not sure what kind of role Lakers could offer him... that's the last meaningful guy I expect to hit the market... I don't think Thompson gets bought out.

I'm not scurred of Jeff.

For real though I still wish we would have kept him. I was one of the few here who did not like the idea of releasing him. Like I said at the time, he was good veteran depth. He was decent on ball defender and could play small ball 5. We still haven't found a replacement for him. It was a mistake. We could have cut NWG to sign Tucker.

I think they are sitting on their hands so hard that they are elbows deep up their ***. Imo

I'm kind of disappointed about Demarre. I think he could've been useful for us, especially on the defensive end. Come playoff time it's going to be nearly impossible to keep both Niang and Bradley in the rotation.

Eh, I still think it was the right move. Addition by subtraction. Niang has his faults but there's no question we've been better with him as the backup 4 than we were with Green. If he actually played hard and gave a consistent effort he could've been a useful player but he just didn't seem to give a damn most of the time.

Not sure how big a paycut he took int he buyout... but if we really wanted him we could have traded Davis for him and it saves them a couple million and a little space... they could have given Ed a buyout and saved even more.

I’m not too bummed because I think he might be washed. Sucks he picked Houston...

I actually thought there was a good chance we would make that very move at the deadline. I'm still surprised Ed wasn't traded.

“San Antonio didn’t want Davis.”

That might turn out to be true. We'll see what happens. :)

I'm still hoping against hope for the Suns to buyout Aron Baynes. He'd move the needle for us.
They have zero reason to do it... can’t even save much if he waived the rest of his salary this year. At very least they can sign and trade him this offseason.

The buyout market had Biyombo maybe, harkless maybe, Thompson... maybe. I doubt any of them pick us.

If we really thought the buyout market was going to be something we could get in on then I think we dumb AF. It was much more likely that we could make something happen in trade with a couple seconds.

We can continue to wish but buyout market gonna be barren.

As you said, the buyout market requires some kind of inside knowledge to get the ball rolling. We don’t do that because we don’t want our guys thinking we’re looking to replace them. Of course, there are exceptions to that, like if we get tunnel vision on a particular guy and are willing to allow one of our chemistry guys to be publicly dangled for two weeks. Or if we think someone shows promise and is up and coming, then we’ll waive Jeff Green. But waiving one of Dennis’ guys is a tall order. Moving TB out of the rotation or waiving NWG doesn’t compute. Those are DL guys until the purposes of Dennis have been accomplished and the great DL says, “the work is done.”

Not when the Jazz are a top-3 seed and Houston is 5th.
I'd say its 50/50 whether we play the Rockets in the 4/5 matchup or get some other arrangement. Jazz Rockets 4/5 is currently looking like the most likely scenario by a lot.

I think we can beat them... I hate watching them and have PTSD from the last two years. Would much rather play other teams... if only to have a barometer of how we line up against more traditional western conference teams.

But if Houston is really using their spaces on Green and DMC, then it leaves us as one of the few people to get buyouts. We’re probably the only team who would [should] sign someone like Biyombo, and I don’t think we’re out there making inquiries and letting people know of interest. I mean, DL is at the bar, aggressively making himself available, but no pressure to be the first one to tip his hand because he’s got a night ogling women in the Sear’s catalog that he’s more than content with so he doesn’t feel the need to be put out by expectation.
