Which sounds like a great way to lose an election. If we're hoping that young college aged voters save us, we're lost. They will not vote, for a variety of reasons. Their lack of a permanent residence, their inability to focus on the issues, etc.

The states we need to win for the electoral college:

• Are older and whiter
• Lower educated
• More conservative and rural

As a result, a better strategy would be to target moderate adults like @colton who can't stand Trump.

The issue isn't finding a candidate who can boost young voters. Did you know that the election with the highest % of youth vote turnout was in 1992 when George HW Bush vs Bill Clinton. A Democrat has been villainized for being too moderate. What about those two excited the youth vote more than Obama?

You are strengthening my point. Precisely because they have the lowest turnout you need someone who they can find exciting enough to get involved.

Why do you expect my argument to mysteriously change if/when we have a contested convention? Have I ever stated that the delegate leader shouldn't be the nominee?

Colton has already stated that he'd vote for a number of moderate Democrats. I suspect key EC states with more conservative, older, whiter, and lesser educated populations would as well. Why alienate them with a candidate deemed too far left? We definitely do not want to alienate that coalition. They're the voters who will determine who the next president will be, not the young "woke" crowd.

They've had low turnout, even with "woke" candidates. Historically, young people just aren't a demographic that votes consistently, no matter what the candidates or issues are. Facts matter

I'd appreciate it if you would base your opinions of what my views of a brokered convention might be on what I've consistently said or done in the past, not on generalizations of moderate Democrats.

Again, if Sanders and his ideas really are as popular as some of you think, he should kill it today. But if he can't even win emphatically among Democrats, I don't know why he'd do any better against Trump. Seems like a pretty obvious point to me.

Let me clearly state, I'll vote for Bernie in the general. I won't in the primary. However, I'm not the key demo here. I'm a liberal and a registered Democrat. I've assisted in the campaigns of fellow Democrats in our state.

If we want to beat Trump, we're going to need to convince people far more conservative than I, to vote for someone who even I wouldn't have voted for in the primary.... Good luck with that.
I fear that Bernie gives moderates an excuse to vote 3rd party or return to the safety of "home" with Trump. This could easily result in the loss of the White House, continued loss of the Senate, and lose us the hardfought House gains in 2018.

Fair enough. I tried to word it in such a way as to not make it about you in particular, but clearly I failed there.

I don't think the logic of your second point holds together particularly well though. Take the 08 race for example, Obama didn't "emphatically win" among democrats but ended with a pretty dominating performance in the general election. At the same time McCain pretty easily wiped the floor against Mitt Romney on the road to ultimately losing the election.

I have zero problem that he is facing the issues of an aging person. He should not be running and should be enjoying the retired life. He just cannot be the President of the United States if we want any credibility in the world. Say what you will about our standing in the world now (which is in a place of power and strength) but Biden will be an absolute disaster.
