No, by appealing to the younger generation, the group of people with the lowest turnout.
Which sounds like a great way to lose an election. If we're hoping that young college aged voters save us, we're lost. They will not vote, for a variety of reasons. Their lack of a permanent residence, their inability to focus on the issues, etc.
The states we need to win for the electoral college:
- Are older and whiter
- Lower educated
- More conservative and rural
The issue isn't finding a candidate who can boost young voters. Did you know that the election with the highest % of youth vote turnout was in 1992 when George HW Bush vs Bill Clinton. A Democrat has been villainized for being too moderate. What about those two excited the youth vote more than Obama?
