What's new

How has the virus affected you directly?

Full disclosure, and this is not something I've mentioned here yet: My son (31 yrs old) died 2 weeks ago. We had to go to a viewing and the cremation. In Seattle. Last Monday. We just got back on Wednesday. My 84 years old father came with us. I am absolutely terrified that he caught it up there.

Also, the memorial is being delayed, because... well, of course it is.
I'm very sorry to hear that. That's a lot to deal with anytime. My condolences to you and your family. You have my deepest sympathy. Let us know if we can help in any way.

Sorry to hear that gandalfe, I dont know why I always thought you were much younger.

Today my gym just closed. My work sent home anyone over 50 years old. I'm still expected to go in until they say otherwise. At work we usually do a march madness bracket but nope, not this year.

My brother was planning on a trip to slc but obviously thats not happening.

Came back from Reno three days early. Have been told to work from home until otherwise.

Had to cram 6 months of build (that leadership didn't want to do) in a week.

And I may have contracted one of the strains of the flu, but highlighly lucklikely CoVID19

That's sad. Sorry you've had to have worry on top of sorrow.

We’ve got 5 kids. The oldest two are in school and the third is in pre-school. My wife doesn’t work. My main job I’ve been going in until tomorrow. We’re no longer seeing people unless it’s urgent, so managing things all over the phone from tomorrow on. It’s nice I can do that from home but in the end it’s questionable how that will be reimbursed. I have a job that I do entirely remotely anyway once weekly, so that’s unchanged and, if anything, became easier without having to go in during the week. Another job is in person but can be fairly remote. I just have to cover in the hospital this weekend in person and it will be interesting to see how that works out. We’ve got plenty of stuff for the kids to do here. Unfortunately, they just want to be on electronics. The past couple days with everything shut down and being physically at work, kept thinking how I’d rather just be working at home. It’s about a 30 minute commute for me, so saving an hour a day is huge. Again, may not be getting paid for what I do, though. At least as of now.
4 kids now not in school... they are driving my wife flipping nuts... I’m home too... she hates electronics and I kinda just have to tell her to chill... son games online with his friends so it pulls them in even harder.

Holy piss man. My condolences. I can’t imagine having to deal with the worry on top of the grief on top of the travel. What can I do for you? What can I get for you? What do you need? I’m 100% serious. Let me know. Text me. Call me. 801-699-9057. That goes for anyone else here, too.

What area do you cover? I had forgotten you do electric and I remember a couple people here have used you. I'll be finishing a room in my basement at some point (who the hell knows right now) but was planning to start framing soon.

The majority of my work is in Davis and Salt Lake counties. I will travel to just about wherever if the job makes it worth it. I’ve gone to Grantsville, Park City, American Fork, Torrey, Logan, Ogden, Cedar Hills. You name it, for the right price.

On a bit more of a personal note, I have a pet that just started cancer treatment. I’ve had to wonder about whether she’ll be able to continue to receive treatments, and about the risks my wife and I are taking if/when we are able to take her in for treatments. This has added a very uncomfortable layer to all the other considerations.

Damn man, I really hope everything works out.

I love my job. I really do. I like my coworkers. I like everything about it. I NEED my job to stay off the streets.

But I'm seriously considering quitting. It's getting to the point where I feel I don't have a choice.

None of our politicians f****** care enough to shut huge military installations down to non-essential personnel.

All that they keep saying...
"Social Distancing!"
"Stay home!"
"No gatherings of 10 or more!"

But go to to work on this base of 25,000 tho for sure

F****** clowns

@gandalfe I am so sorry for your loss. Beyond words. Seriously.

I do think how 9-11 changed airport security this will have permanent changes at least in China. I think China will keep a few things they are doing with screening and/or tracking permanently. I could see public transportation here permanently checking body temps. China also has an app you have to download that tracks where you've been and other stuff and gives you a green, yellow, or red code for traveling. I doubt the government gives up this app being used for "travel." No idea about the USA though but I could see some permanent changes there. At the very least policy changes about handling these things.

That’s awful. I’m so sorry to hear that.

I'm recently retired so income wise it hasn't affected me all that much financially... but being stuck in my condo all day all night without being able to go outside to exercise is making me gain weight.
