President Obama Commencement

Well, if we’re taking that hyperbole literally, would you agree that 1/3 of the country would vote for Trump if he murdered someone in Times Square?
Not 1/3 no, cause I don't believe that 1/3 of the country are that in love with Trump.
I do believe that there is a decent amount of people out there like political jazz fan that would still vote for Trump if he murdered someone in times square though. I don't think Biden has any fans like that.

Nah, there would still be idiots that would say ‘Yeah, but Trump killed tens of thousands with more added every day.’

The chances of Biden or Trump committing murder in the next few months seem remote.

Okay. That's a little different than I thought. When you said 1/3 of the country are hardcore Trump supporters, I was curious how you were defining it because that's too high. But if "vote for him no matter what," then 1/3 would certainly be accurate. However, 1/3 would also vote for Biden no matter what, but I don't know that I'd consider them hardcore Biden supporters.

I'd say that anyone who thinks Trump is being undercut by the "deep state", as opposed to crooked and incompetent, is probably hard-core.

Depends on the person.
We’re not talking about a person. We’re talking about 1/3 of people.

The conversation was about 1/3 of the country being “hardcore” Trump supporters. With clarification, GF said this was those who will vote for him no matter what, then added the shooting on 5th Avenue hyperbole. When I said 1/3 of people would vote for Biden no matter what, and you clarified that 1/3 wouldn’t vote for him if he murdered someone in Times Square, it appears to make an assumption that the 1/3 voting for Trump ‘no matter what’ would.

Tl;dr you agree with me.

Is it hardcore to believe both?

Someone does in fact mean a person
The question was whether one third of the country would vote for Trump after murdering someone on Times Square. “It depends on the person“ isn’t really an answer that addresses the question.

It exactly answers the question actually.

I just don't see it working. China gains nothing releasing some virus on their own citizens in the hopes it will reach other countries and spread. The Chinese economy and businesses have been wrecked by this; the world economy rises and falls together, no such thing as siloing. If they really wanted to instill armageddon, they would have made something a hell of a lot deadlier than COVID.

There's no conspiracy here - we need to point the finger at our elected and appointed officials who simply didn't take appropriate precautions. Can you imagine how better off we would have been by subjecting all foreign travelers (American citizens or not) at the airport to a mandatory 14 day quarantine? We could have directed all international arrivals to specific airports, bus them to hotels and continued to do so.

Instead, we got... well, this. No screenings, just a slap on the *** and welcome back to the states. 91k and counting with 100k likely by next Sunday.
Do you honestly believe it would have been possible to quarantine all travelers for 14 days?

I don't think blaming China is going to offset the view that President Trump's administration is failing. Polling shows that American's views on China are increasingly negative. But they also show that views on the Trump administration and its ability to deal with this pandemic are increasingly negative.

Why do you think the increasing death and economic toll will be blamed on China and not on the administration's response? Especially when Trump reminds the nation every single day how inept he is either through tweets or press conferences? A more disciplined administration might be able to stay on message and pull off a Chinese scapegoat campaign. But not this one.

Again, it was only just a few weeks ago when he was suggesting that infected people inject disinfectants to cure the virus. And you think people will look at that and blame China?

Give it another week. Trump will say something else outlandishly stupid and remind us all how pathetic his administration's response has been.
Trump did not suggest that infected people should inject disinfectants. I know it's fun to try to take every statement to the extreme but the things you say simply are not true.

Let’s put it another way...

“Do you believe that 0.5% of the US population has been infected with COVID-19?”
“Depends on the person.”

So you don’t think how people would vote is dependent on who Trump shot in Times Square? If Trump shot and killed say a cute, white nine year old girl? Or a “scary looking” 25 year old very black male? You think people would vote the same? Okay. It would 100% matter. Or maybe you haven’t been paying attention to the last 3.5 years.

Hence, my response.

For those of you interested, President Obama gave a really good speech to young people yesterday. It was a great reminder that presidents don’t have to be assholes who brag about ratings, spew conspiracies, recommend injecting Lysol, or yelling at reporters. We just had to endure the crap we have right now for a little over 6 more months.

Google president Obama CIA.

I went down that rabbit hole and snopes basically says it's true.

Love me some Obama but the middle east though.

Ohh... depends on the individual he shot. Got it.

Do you honestly believe it would have been possible to quarantine all travelers for 14 days?

Absolutely. Would have cost peanuts considering the trillions spent on everything else we’ve done, built countless plans, bankrolled small businesses, etc.

I never heard anything remotely close to this suggestion at the time. It seems pointless to lambaste decision makers for not making a decision that nobody was even considering.

Probably because they didn’t think it was necessary and that we would be able to control any growth without upsetting the apple cart.

Put it to you this way: would this risk mitigation plan have worked better than the one we implemented?

Well ya I agree with ya. That was obvious in my first sentence when I said not 1/3.
Fwiw I didn't just say a person though either. I said there are lots of people like pjf who would vote for Trump no matter what. And that's no hyperbole. He is a God to many people who can literally do no wrong. I don't think there are people like that on the Biden side.

Is that it, though? Or is it that Trump is occupying the position of the Republican incumbent? I mean, it’s not like people are all that thrilled with Biden, but when it comes down to it, he’ll be the Democratic nominee and they’ll go to bat for him. They already have. You don’t think their hatred for Trump or “the other side” would eclipse anything wrong Biden can do? And it’s not about accepting that someone has done something wrong. It’s about repackaging the narrative.
