The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

November 2020:

Coronavirus deaths are somewhere around 250,000

The election has been delayed or is being actively disputed by Trump

But most Americans are just trying to figure out their Thanksgiving plans.

Nah, election won't be delayed as constitution spells out that the power to move an election actually holds with Congress. Disputed? I have no doubt that regardless of who wins, it will be disputed and carry on ad nauseam throughout the holidays about stolen elections and fraudulent voters and tactics.

I'm not an alarmist by nature, but I think there's a legitimate chance at violence and riots. This country is so divided that there's extremists everywhere who will take decisive action that others could only imagine in their heads. I hope I'm wrong.

I’m with you. I’d just note that half of Congress is controlled by Republicans, so I wouldn’t rule out a delay (or, at the very least, months of chatter about a delay as a pretext for disputing the results later. McConnell will be happy to oblige.)

Don't forget the the inevitable 'Trump is going to declare martial law and not leave office.'

I think the most insightful part to me was this phrase, "The more you were willing to accept, the harder it is to let go." That explains so much.

And, it must become even harder to let go, under those circumstances, when it also means the “libs” were substantially right about Trump. That can only be galling to the Nth degree, and a step way too far for most Trump supporters. Far more likely for the culture wars and partisan wars to continue unabated under a Biden presidency. It will be extremely difficult to dismantle the alternative reality that Trump has promoted. A Biden win will be seen as a victory for the Deep State. That will be the Trumpsters’ “truth” in the Post Truth landscape.

I fear we may need to bookmark this response... I sure hope this doesn't happen, but sadly I wouldn't put it past him.
I've been saying it for a few years. Not that he'll do it, but that when we arrive at that point, a sizable contingent of people will theorize and convince themselves that he'll do it. It happened near the end of Obama's second term, and had subtle rumblings among some people, but was more a wishful fantasy predicated on their distorted view of reality and partisan politics. Anyone on the left, and a number on the right, could recognize its asininity without much effort. The part people will be blind to is the other half of the equation. Because when the same process strikes a chord with someone's own political proclivities, it will be viewed as much more legitimate, much more nuanced, and much more thoughtful than what they perceive as the crazed ramblings of those moronic conspiracy theorists, and thus normalized as legitimate.

Martial law is unlikely to be a reality.

However, Trump is very like to speak/tweet about enforcing it, which will fuel the paranoia.
