Tough Day To Be In Law Enforcement

Not sure a priest taking pictures of church stuff and posting messages advocating for life and tolerance is the same as Donald tear gassing a bunch of peaceful protestors to clear a path for him so he can take a picture of him awkwardly holding a bible upside down in front of a church is the same thing.

BTW, last time donald visited a church? Right after the Virginia Beach shooting. Clearly, religion is important to him, that’s why he got so dressed up. He left the golf course for a few mins for a photo op. Seems like he only goes to church for photos

A true believer (presumably this priest) doing things in line with their faith doesn't make it a prop or photo-op. An outsider (Trump) doing so is using it as a prop. Very different scenarios imo.

I say this as a fairly aggressive agnostic.
I don't doubt he's a true believer.
It's still cognitive dissonance to say the church isn't about this, unless, you know, he's the one doing it.

People's lives are not props. The church is very much his life.

If I dressed up as you (whatever it is you do) that would be a costume/photo-op. You just living your life doing whatever is not you being a prop.

Haha. Sure I do. I'm not sure you do.

Dude was bothered by Donald for using religion as a political tool meanwhile the same dude uses Twitter to promote religion as a political tool. That's called cognitive dissonance regardless if you understand it or not.

The church/religion being part of one's life is all relative.

To a priest, it's important. To someone who may not go to church that and feels they have a strong religious connection, it's important.

I don't care what Trump believes. If he's religious then it's obvious he doesn't really practice it. It doesn't mean he doesn't believe it or it's not important to him.

Don't get me wrong, Trump's pic was bizarre, awkward, and uncomfortable.

Dude was bothered by POTUS using religion as a political prop, while using Twitter to promote religion as a transformative force. Even an avowed atheist can appreciate that distinction.

Maybe you're trolling. If not, perhaps you might take a little more time to think on what people are writing instead of just responding.

What does being an atheist have to do with anything? I'm agnostic. Snorkel. Albuquerque.

I'm sure there are some people who are bothered by the priest using religion as a political prop, while using Twitter to promote religion as a transformative force too.

I'm going to try one more time.

The concept of 'prop' being used here is in reference to a stage prop. It is something outside of yourself that you use for theatrical effect. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theatrical_property

The priest is religious. You can not use a part of yourself (your hand or your religious nature) as a prop - it goes against the definition of the word prop.

You could argue that the either the priest is not religious and also using religion as a prop (dubious) or Trump is religious (I don't buy it, but more believable) and neither were using a prop.

I think the context makes things worse. He gassed people. If you’re Christian, you believe that people are sons and daughters of god. Trump gassed sons and daughters of god (including a priest) so he could have a path cleared for a picture.

Did he go inside the church? Did he pray inside of it? Did he observe the damage that occurred the previous night? Did he visit with church workers?

No?

Okay...

So he hurt fellow sons and daughters of god unnecessarily so he could selfishly take a picture in front of the church in an attempt to make up for the perceived bad media coverage of previous night

everything was done to hurt others nothing was done to heal. Completely antithetical to Christianity. A cheap and hypocritical photo op.

I would encourage those conversing today to talk about the issue of systemic racism, a corrupt criminal justice system, and what you have learned from people of color over the last few days.

TBH, I don’t really care what any of the white people here think about the riots, protests, or race. Honestly, your opinions don’t matter right now. Whatever minutia you’re trying to argue is taking away from the voices of black and brown people.

What have your black and brown friends and family been telling you? Have you asked?
