What's new

How has the virus affected you directly?

So I think I might have the rona. I literally cannot smell or taste anything. I thought I had a head cold or allergies as I've been stuffy and congested for the last few days but my wife asked me to smell some oil crap she bought and nothing. It might as well have been water. So I've been going around the house smelling things and absolutely nothing. It's really weird to have absolutely no sense of smell.

Then we go and get some italian ice stuff last night, I'm thinking "Wow, this is so bland" my wife takes a bite of mine and says it is way way too sweet for her. I take another bite. It might as well be straight ice with no flavor to me.

So no real symptoms other than loss of smell and taste. So weird.

Sooooo, I'm going to get tested. Dammit.

Dang... that doesn't sound good. Good luck... hopefully none of the fam has it. Test is absolutely horrible from what I've heard.

Your wife took a bite out of your icee from which you’d taken a bite?

Best wishes. Seriously.

Good luck to you!

The nastiness of the test seems to be dependent upon what's in the way. If you have a deviated septum or something, it is probably worse. I've had 4 sinus surgeries and it is all wide open spaces up there. I didn't even flinch, and the technician said "wow, that an easy, straight shot up there."

This really sucks for so many people in so many ways. This is probably the largest event in my lifetime. Its effects are larger on everyones lives than anything I can think of. I honestly underestimated this by a lot. I do think a lot is overreaction but thats besides the point.

One of my best friends found out she has cancer. Its been rough for her dealing with it and not being able to have anyone go with her to the hospital due to the policy because of the virus. When she first found out she was in shock and didnt hear anything the doctor told her. She had to go back a couple days later just to hear the info again and write it down. She had surgery and is doing much better though and should be make a full recovery.

I am supposed to marry her and her girlfriend. But unfortunately I dont think ill be able to even attend their wedding let alone perform the marriage. It really bums me out. They are kind of waiting for me but things keep getting delayed.

The small ways this has effected everyone that I never thought of astound me.

Hah. That's how I read this the first time through. I'm sure we're not alone.

I would expect it would be a common reaction among the heteronormative. Since my bias toward monogamy is fairly strong, I never thought it would be anything other than Ron Mexico officiating.

I have been to work after 2.5 months and my legs are killing me because I carried some books from shelf to shelf for 4 hours.

I think it's more a reflection that I'm not in any circles where I interact with people who are in the business of officiating marriage for people, yet it's impossible to escape being in circles where people discuss marrying others, so the assumption was that he was an engaged party (if for only a second or two), regardless of gender. It would have required the same double take if he had said "I'm supposed to marry her and her boyfriend." I suppose you could look at it exclusively through the lens of two people getting married and that being a monoganomative interpretation.

@Beer Any test results back?

The result times are all over the place. I had an employee that had results back in less than 24 hours. My daughter took a week to get results.

COVID positive. Had my wife and 2 kids tested too. 1 positive, 1 not. Neither of us have real symptoms other than loss of smell for me and congestion. Daughter only has congestion. We figured it was allergies. So we get to avoid everyone on earth for 10 more days.

I'm sorry. Hope you stay well and get your sense of smell back. Any idea where you got it?

No, I've been going to stores a bit and ate at a few restaurants over the last few weeks. I do wear a mask and sanitize my hands constantly but I do have a bad habit of touching my face and such so it could have been anywhere.

Welp, just dropped my facemask in the toilet.
