The number of unarmed black people killed by law enforcement last year was less than the number of unarmed white people who were killed. 9 to 14 iirc.

I'm not absolving Chauvin of responsibility here. He deserves to serve decades if not life.

Black non-Hispanics make up 12% of the population and, using your data, account for 40% of unarmed murders by police.

I want to apologize. I knew what you said in advance but thought the % of whites was lower and blacks was higher than what it is in this country. Basically there are six times as many whites which means based on the data I gave, blacks have a 4x greater chance of being killed than a white.

Awful and I feel ashamed that I even posted it.

Give it up? Have I sat here and posted against blacks over the last ten days? I made a flawed post and owned up to it just now. Save the self-righteousness. It’s sort of nauseating tbpfh as if you, a white person mind you, knows exactly what the right approach is for all this as you stand on your perch and preach, but all other whites don’t. It's also worth factoring in where people live. Black people, on average, live in relatively poorer places. Impoverished places tend to have more crime, which leads to more police, and more deaths at the hands of police.

Edit: This is not meant as a post to place blame. Rather just to consider what potential corrective action should be. 100% of the focus can't purely be on changing police departments, but also on finding ways to empower minorities to escape poverty.

No one stopped to help... no one even glanced at the officer... friggin disgusting. If all of them sit out lay them off... I'm sure they will find a great job in this booming economy... especially when their future employer sees they were fired for supporting their colleague who abused an elderly guy.

Totally agree that law enforcement needs to end this culture of standing behind officers that clearly have acted inappropriately.

I thought we established that they were NOT silent? They (reportedly) told the guy to get off his neck and put him in the police car. He refused. I think the example that needs to be set has to be with the department leaders. If a chief of police was charged with some form of negligence, you might see some reconsider their hiring process.

Okay, so I just read that one of the arrested officers is actually Black. His ethnicity and race are listed as Black on Minneapolis Police Department forms. His attorney also stated:
“Kueng is a Black Man, raised by a single mom who adopted him at the age of four”, his attorney Plunkett confirmed.

Serious question: Does this change our perception, presumed motive, or the narrative of what occurred?

I wonder what would happen if we hired more minorities as police officers. Not sure what the current hire rate is or if it would be successful. I haven't seen video of a black officer choking out anyone... I wonder if they might be a tad more compassionate.

I have told this story here before, but once I was in the mall, was going to meet the family in the food court for dinner or something after work. I called the wife and she said the kids were all with friends but that they would all be converging on the food court, so I found a place to sit down and people watch. It wasn't long before I saw a woman come out of Hot Topic or something. Man was she built, in a tasteful outfit that revealed about the right amount of skin. Shorts, halter-type top, very shapely legs, maybe the best butt I have ever witnesses.

I may be married but I am not dead, so I didn't mind the view for bit. She walked away from the store after standing there texting for a few minutes, behind a kiosk or something and I lost view. I didn't think anything of it until I saw my daughter and she saw me. She waved and ran over, and in tow was this woman.

My daughter gave me a hug and turned and said "daddy meet my friend, Jamie" (or something can't remember her name but I think that is it). My jaw dropped to the floor. She was in the same class as my daughter, so she was a sophomore in high school, just turned 15 they told me. I would have swore earlier that she was 25 or so, maybe as young as 20.

Changes the way you think about things I will tell you that.
