Potential move to Utah

Never been to Helena but Boise isn't a city I'd want to live in. If I left SLC it'd be for a larger city, not for some rural ********.
I guess I should have mentioned that my initial post would resonate best with those dudes who don’t need to get their balls pampered by some silly outlet it the bIg cOSmOpOlitAn cItY.

Yeah, you should have for sure.

It's not much cheaper up here in the Ogden area either. Nearly impossible to get anything much under $250,000. This probably isn't the best time to move to Utah. My nephew is looking for a house right now and their realtor told them that they have to immediately move on a house if they like it because almost anything listed right now has several offers within hours. It becomes a bidding war and people are getting more than they list the house for.

This is the house that is for sale on my street in Roy. Because it is next to a busy road, it isn't moving that quickly. But it is still listed at $270.00. https://www.coldwellbankerhomes.com/ut/roy/5605-s-2950-w/pid_36332692/

Hill Air Force Base is hiring, but I have no idea what types of jobs.

Water should be somewhat of a concern and major issue going forward. It’s why I’m going to invest heavily in water etf’s. Hell, it’s the only thing Bale’s character in The Big Short invests in now in real life. And for good reason.

Utah is cool and all, but I wouldnt go house broke to move to Utah.

This.

@White Chocolate Not sure how much money you can save per month or how old your child is (I think very young like <2) but if boredom is your only real complaint, if I was you, I’d try to save as much money as humanly possible for the next 3-4 years, even if it means picking up extra hours, and then move if it’s something that’s still important to you right around the time your child would start kindergarten. Especially if you can get home prices on the downturn which I suspect is coming soon. Though maybe not in a flourishing area like Utah, IdK.

I moved back to Utah in 2015 in hopes of getting a house for a good price. Unfortunately, the house prices have outpaced my (significant) wage increases and I'm still kinda stuck in an apartment. It's super frustrating. Do I need to move out of the state?

I'll be graduating and getting my CMA in the next year so I can expect more money soon. But, 400,000 for an "ok" house doesn't sound good at all tbh.

@White Chocolate

I’d consider reaching out to @sirkickyass

Pretty sure he lives in AZ in a nice home that’s not crazy expensive (for some reason 330K comes to mind) in a good area/school district.

Maybe you could just do a move like that? Not saying 330K but a move somewhere else in AZ. Idk.

Decent amount of 3/2’s in St. George for <250K if you’re willing to go up in price. I’m sure @Dr. Jones would hook you up with a job too.

**** that. Houses in person rarely look as good as they do over the webz.
As I mentioned, it was a highly impulsive move. She didn't even really clear it with her work. She had been working remotely and I'm not sure what will happen when this changes and she's not there physically.

I didnt see an answer to if @White Chocolate is LDS or not. That makes a huge difference for where you would want to live.

Even in SLC you can find a house for cheaper if you are willing to live west. I bought my house downtown SLC and it was run down but I got it for 208k 4 years ago. But I did sell it last year for 350k. I really wish I had been able to finish remodeling it though I think I could have got closer to 500k. But in Glendale area there are still houses in the 200's or other cities around SLC like west valley that isnt the best area but there are some decent spots and is really not far from SLC.

Yeah I didn't make that post the be an ***. Utah Valley might be a perfectly nice place for an lds person to live but I would never recommend it to a non-lds person moving to Utah.

It can be okay. I enjoyed living there but you need to understand what you're getting into. It's a very unique place.
