Most Glaring Roster Holes

I do like this Shaq kid, but I don't see any reason why we have to trade for him. He's not going to make more than the MLE so we just prioritize him based off of using that.

I don't think Otto Porter Jr is the answer. I like his fit better than Conley, but I don't think our FO will see him as a win big enough to trade Conley.

After all the financials are crunched, I think the smartest Conley trade ends up being one that saves money. Nobody would blame the Jazz organization if they commit millions to Don on an extension then millions to Rudy on an extension then commit millions to Clarkson on an extension then trade Conley for savings.
Conley and Hornet draft considerations to NY
Randle to Charlotte
Ntilikina to Utah
Other minor considerations would trade hands between the teams, but this is the type trade that saves us almost $30 million. NY is happy to shed Randle and get draft considerations. Charlotte gets Randle who they have reported interest in.
 
Wasn't sure where to put it... but what may end up happening with the cap and luxury tax is that they keep it at or close to what they projected but have a bigger escrow for the players so they can claw back the amount they fall short next year. Its complicated but that way max guys can sign their deals without it being tied to a smaller cap and teams can avoid being clobbered by the luxury tax. Would help us retain JC and use our cap exceptions.

the Dunc'd on guys mentioned it. Not sure what will actually be done. I think they need the season to wrap before having actual proposals.

I just think the tax teams will throw a fit if the cap stays the same as it was this year. Would cost them an additional $25-30M in tax... several teams are in that boat. A bunch of additional teams will reduce spending plans to avoid the tax (like us)... It wouldn't be a great FA environment and would have some unintended consequences.

Who knows really. Just though it was a reasonable suggestion.
 
If you can't sign and trade with someone using Ed's contract or trade him into space I'd waive and stretch him. I think we can find a home for TB fairly easily and I guess we could keep Ed as the emergency option in that scenario.

I'd play hardball with JC a little... I like him a lot but I don't see a team honestly even going full MLE with him. He fits here and I'd go 4/36M or 4/40M. If he walks I move Mike to the bench or start him but make him the primary guy on the bench units through substitutions.

MLE could get something substantial in the depressed market... BAE could get something really useful as well.

If we basically just run it back I'd be tempted to cut Niang. He is a great shooter and is worth a minimum deal and a roster spot, but I'd be afraid Quin would rely on him too much and we have to get more length and athleticism on the floor and see what we have in Brantley and Oni. I might waive him just so Quin doesn't have his crutch to lean on.

Miami is the program to emulate. They develop and use guys. Ask guys to come off the bench at times... pull guys in and out of the rotation for specific needs/matchups. They are just so malleable. We have some good but not very flexible starters... so the bench guys need to provide more of that.

Maybe we could pull off a sign and trade of our own.

Kings S&T Bogdan Bogdanovic for Ed Davis, Tony Bradley and #23. We could also send them any of these guys if they want them (Tucker, Niang, NWG, etc.)

Since Bogdan is an unrestricted free agent, Sacramento should be excited to get any asset for him rather than losing him for nothing.

Well that changes things. Basketball reference really needs to spell that out better lol.

I wonder if he would threaten to sign the one year restricted offer sheet forcing Sacramento's hand. Maybe at that point they agree to a sign-and-trade. I'm grasping at straws....

He might do that to go to Miami or LA... but Utah... nah. They gonna pay him and he stays.

He’s gonna go where the money is. Hasn’t had his big contract yet, so I think the ring-chasing is gonna have to wait.

In either case, we’re not going to be competitive for him on the market since the Jazz will be almost certainly hovering around the luxury tax next offseason since they gave Ingles that weird extension for no reason and gotta pay our franchise players.
