Jazz select Udoka Azubuike with pick 27 & trade Tony Bradley + pick 38 to the Pistons

I'm with you on Mike. I have been pretty consistent there.

WE don't KNOW that Udoka is good enough to provide what some claim he will... rookies generally suck. I want us to get a backup big but its a current problem so address it in FA (there are infinity options there). If we are going to draft a big I need it to be one with some variety... the best teams are shape shifters and are flexible.

Favors struggled as a drop big first year... he has physical tools and is athletic and was experienced... Udoka might get it from day one who knows? But its super unlikely. These bigs that dominate college based on dunking and rebounding are a dime a dozen...

Firsts are a huge resource... its how we get our blue chip talent. When I am on here in 6 months lamenting that we could have had Desmond Bane or Xavier Tillman please don't call it hindsight. Lets see how this plays out.

In 6 months you will have forgotten all about these supposed "prodigies" as they wallow on the bench for whoever picked them up.

It sounds like both draft picks need to lose some weight per L

Based on what I've seen his hands are amazing. NFL all-pro receiver hands. And that 54" vertical.
he just jumps and stops going up when he chooses to stop. and you thought it was DK Metcalf who ran down Budda Baker a few weeks ago - that was actually Udoka Azubuike wearing DK's jersey. Why did Metcalf allow that, you ask? Because Udoka told him to.

So he's good as a post up guy... great. He can finish... that is good. Now outside the restricted area... good passer? Can he dribble? Can he shoot?

I think he is likely an NBA player but I think he is likely replacement level. The good stuff comes with some serious warts imo.

Go look at the list of McDonald's all Americans... world beaters like Diamond Stone on there too.

Udoka might be a Thomas Bryant level of success, but that took a few years too and isn't exactly a home run. To be clear they are different types of players.
Thomas Bryant was my homer pick. He wasn't given much chance till Wizards and he had better G-league numbers and play. Lakers were grinding talent at that time.

Nope. I won't.

For all those saying we filled a need last night... per Locke the Jazz front office folks were really downplaying what he will contribute this year. So we get to groom another backup center or we selected Rudy insurance for down the road.

I liked him so much more that Tony. That type of guy makes sense because he had shown some ability to shoot as well as the other big stuff. He's turned out fine. If Udoka hits that level its a success for him... IDK its just such a weird pick.

Sounds like a pretty common sense move by the FO IMO

Cool... tell me how well Udoka gonna pass from the elbow... go watch the tape he misses obvious ****ing reads constantly. Will set bigger screens and have value as a rim runner... great.

Defense he protects the paint... great. He's also a ****ing turnstyle on the perimeter and won't be able to recover to shooters or to the ball handling guards.

IFFFF he develops he's high character Whiteside... we could get a guy at the minimum that will be better at doing what rookie Udoka is supposedly good at.

Xavier Tillman does all the things you want from a modern big except shoot and he's shown some signs of maybe being able to do that. If we wanted a band aid big that's fine... pick a better target. We are aiming at the wrong ****... how much you want to bet that either Ed or another vet end up being our backup center? DL and Quin hate relying on unproven players. They crave the certainty of vanilla ice cream.
We run plenty of handoffs, off-screens, dives. He won't be passing much but I am sure short roll passes will be a focus. He isn't a skilled passer but we wouldn't need him to be. Neither Bradley or Davis are good passers and Morgan's passing is overrated around here.

He isn't good on perimeter defense and he can be taken advantage of at times but I don't know to what degree. I don't think he will be as bad as you think.

Xavier Tillman doesn't defend well in space either and has limitations that will be obvious in NBA. He will need to shoot to make it in the NBA.

I can't bet ****, dude. Do you know how much is the rate of Turkish Lira is against Dollar? I wouldn't be able to afford cellular data if we bet 20$.

Agree to disagree then. We shall see.

If they don't plug him in right away, I agree that it will have been a bad pick. You take a guy like Azubuike, a four year guy with an NBA body who accomplished a lot at the college level to come in and have an impact. Having said that, as thriller alluded to, it also makes sense that the Jazz would downplay it at this point in the game. But yeah, he needs to get minutes very soon.

But isn't that the point? We were not filling an immediate need last night no matter what. We will need to improve via free agency. It wasn't an accident that we drafted 4 year guys though.

There are wings that are ready to play and it is easier to think they could contribute immediately and potentially be a starter level player later.

I Like this Tread. Good emotions. When we drafted Stockton Delta Center was booooing.
Guys we do not know nothing at this point. DL make a call on Udoka.Az and take responsibility of it. That's it.
First. See what FO will do in FA
Second. Udoka is better than T.Bradley that's for sure.
Third. Love you all.

one of those might be elijah hughes. regardless of which wing the jazz may have picked it would have been tough to crack the rotation right away. Jazz are pretty set with their top 8-10 dudes at those wing positions.

Good energy

When we use a good chunk of our MLE to sign a center to play ahead of Udoka will the Udoka homers come and talk about how smart it is to groom and train a future backup center... I'd love to hear the argument.

Or a starter player ever/at all on this team.

People creaming their pants about using a 1st on a guy that will only ever play real minutes if he develops a rudimentary passing game, can suddenly improve his FT shooting by 50% AND Rudy gets hurt, walks, or is traded is ****ing wild.

It bears mentioning we don't have any 1sts to trade or to use for a year or two. This was a meaningful asset.
