[Woj] Donovan Mitchell signs 5/195M max designated rookie extension with the Jazz

There is no
To conclude:

-Jazz gave a 5 year contract at 25% max cap money,
-gave the eligibility for Donovan to get up to 30% of the cap money if he makes All NBA teams.
-Gave the contract a year earlier for his security not to get injured this last season of his rookie deal and lock in his giant pay day
-gave up a player option which no team had ever done prior because of the top 3 things

The player option+30% eligibility for a 6'1" guard is indefensible by the front office. You give up the PO or the 30% you do not give up both. You are already giving it to him a year before you had to. Oh and by the way, in doing so with Conley's deal coming off next season, you also gave up cap space by giving it to him early, which is gonna be really really important going forward.

Nothing about this deal is beneficial to the Jazz, and Donovan was not walking away form a potential $195 MILLION over a ****ING PLAYER OPTION. What a way to ruin what should have been a great thing by both sides of this negotiatio

There is no negotiation. You need to understand this. We are Utah. Who the hell is going to sign with us? Nobody. If you disagree, than why haven't we had big signings before? We get talent through the draft. We got lucky with Spida. And with Gobert. A star player isn't paid for just his stats. He's paid on his potential and likeness. The Utah Jazz and every team in the NBA is not just a city/state and a name. Its a brand. You build that brand through players. That player promotes your brand bringing...........?
Yep, other players.
So you pay who can build your brand. We're blessed to have Donovan Mitchell. He's going to attract other players that are winners. We got lucky and drafted a winner. You pay that winner. He brings other winners and guess what happens? You win.

I hope so. Someone needs to be able to apply leverage on this FO.
back seat coaching and management.

This is like "The Office of the President-Elect" and "The Office of the Ex-President", or even "The Office of the Bitch-Queen". If it's not your money on the table, or isn't your actual responsibility.......

FO crap doesn't fit anybody else's ideas. Never does, except for uninformed loyalists.

I think Mitchell would be a viable nucleus for other decisions/ building. I hope it's gonna work out that way, but what the hell do I know.

Yet another 5 year rookie max extension. WITHOUT a player option.

Both Bam and BI's contracts were done after Donovan's. The player option isn't going to be the rule, except for incompetent front offices who don't use their leverage the only damn time they're ever going to have it. The PO is ridiculously horrible BS.

I know Tatum has a player option in his deal.

Yes. One of only 2 players ever? And? Someone else's mistake doesn't change the Jazz horrible mistake here. It's inexcusable to give the PO. Here's what John Hollinger of the Athletic had to say. Donovan is a star. That does not mean he is Lebron or that the Jazz couldn't have just said "no player option". They were agreeing to a 15% trade kicker, giving the deal a year early, and 30% supermax clause for ANY all NBA team. That player option, that contract, is the worst rookie extension from a team standpoint EVER handed out under the current CBA. You CANNOT allow the PO as a team based in SLC. You basically just gave up your star a year earlier than you had to with it.

And the league gets closer to being a farm league for the top 4-5 teams. Yay.

While this is true, this is on Zanick and Lindsey. Absolutely ridiculous of them to give in on the player option when they absolutely did not have to. New Orleans is a smaller market than Utah, yet BI signs the full 5 year max like every other player ever and we get one of the two player options ever given in this situation. Zanick and Lindsey should be fired for it. Oh not to mention the 15% trade kicker Zanick and Lindsey also gave to Donovan. So trade him somewhere he doesn’t want to go, and the Jazz will also be paying him 15% more of his salary at the time. Donovan’s contract is disastrous negotiating, or as Hollinger puts it, not negotiating but capitulation.

Sorry I’m right? Lebron would blush at this contract.
You realize LeBron's extension after his rookie contract was only for 3 years--something a bunch of players did at the time?

This is completely normal and expected.
