Can We Please Just Waive NWG?

You can play two of those guys and Shaq can play now... Forrest is a rookie.

So NWG is Morris huh... k we will see if that comp enters the ****** comp HoF with TB is a poor mans Aldridge.
lmao ok man, no need to get super butt hurt just because I have a different opinion.

I really dont see much in him. I think he has the potential to be a perfectly fine 3rd string guard. I'm just not going to cry and bitch about him being on a roster over SHaq Harrison (especially, as I have stated, when we have his clone on a 2-way deal). He's got good size and can shoot.
The reality is... the 14th man(3d string PG) is rarely the biggest problem on any roster and it's rarely(never) what makes or breaks the season for you, and it's not going to make or break ours either. Our biggest problem is the complete and utter lack of any reliable perimeter defense past Royce on the depth chart. I'm willing to wait and see what they do in the remaining days before the season starts. To me it will be quite an indictment on that FO and ownership group if we don't even fill out our roster when there are players that we can at the very least give a shot to compete for roster spots who can give us some different skillsets than what we already have.

But he is our third string guard. We don’t need him to potentially be a third string when he already is. We can go out and sign guys who are third string. We don’t need to tap potential to become third string.

It’s kind of like having a spare tire with a hole in it.

“Hey, is this your spare tire?”
“It could become one!”

And yes, the last player on the bench isn’t a make or break, but when our largest flaw isn’t addressed with any of the first 10 guys on the roster, it makes finding some semblance of option regarding that weakness at the end of the bench much more important.

No he isnt lmao. He's 190 with a 6'7 wingspan. Many have written him off simply because he plays a very boring style. I'm not saying I expect him to be great, but it's ridiculous how big a fuss people are making over him.
His shot was consistently missing pretty badly in most of the recent minutes he’s played. He doesn’t have the speed or herky-jerky **** to make up for this. He needs to be a dangerous 3-pt shooter to have any chance at success, and there hasn’t been any good data for him on this.

I can pretty much guarantee you that the the #1 skill NWG has in the eyes of DL is BALL SECURITY. This feature probably has the same outsized influence on the analysis of NWG’s skill level as offensive rebounding had for Tony Bradley.

Anyone who is a "proven" 3rd string also is meh, it's why they are a 3rd string. Also these dudes seem to not be getting signed, so they will be there during the season whenever the next move happens (we all assume at some point a trade will happen).

The Jazz seem to be choosing continuity and a guy they like over higher potential. At the end of the day the 3rd string PG (more like 4th because of Ingles) is going to have a more important role in the lockerroom than he does the court.

I get what you're saying about the D, but it seems like the Jazz are going to rely on Oni to be that guy along with Hughes, adding more size/athletic ability to the team.

And again, I'm not pro-NWG. If I had my way they'd waive him and sign Okobo.

I'm also not a moron and recognize there must be a reason they are keeping NWG. It's some combination of his playing ability, organizational trust in his personality in the lockerroom, and his flexible contract guarantee date.

It's annoying to see people act like the Jazz are stupid just because they arent doign what they want them to. There is an angle to what they are doing and I just try to understand it.

I’d wager that DL sees NWG as a valuable contributor in training camp, since he knows the system and can get his squad into sets without making frustrating turnovers or bad decisions. The team gets more and better repetitions this way.

Try to envision that it's not DL and the FO rolling out with this plan, and some rando on JazzFanz suggests the answer to our perimeter D is Miye Oni and a guy on a two-way deal. For some reason it only sounds less insane because the guy suggesting it isn't a random JFCer, but the underlying idea is still exactly the same.

Hughes isnt on a 2-way deal, he's on a guaranteed contract.

But yeah, I would have not signed JC and signed Justin Holiday instead, but with what the Jazz are working with there isnt much they can do.

To make the D better you have to subtract someone who isnt as good on D and replace them. The Jazz only did that at one spot with TB and Favors (which is huge).

I think they can do it with Niang's minutes, but that's like 8 mpg when Bogey is healthy.

They can cut into a bit of everyone's minutes on the perimeter and open up time for Oni. If they truly think he is better than Royce on perimeter D, then I support it. I've always been a big supporter of Oni so I believe in it.

The strategy seems to be keep the team as similar as possible, but improve the non-Rudy minutes. Hopefully the unused depth (Oni/Brantley/Morgan/NWG) of last year pays off as depth that is ready this year.

Current JazzFanz... lolz it’s like the 14th roster spot who cares?

playoff JazzFanz... Jamal Murray scoring 50 a game but what else is coach supposed to try... putting NWG on him lolz.
