If you recall, the Jazz gave the Blazers a heart-wrenching loss the day after X-mas last year, where Utah was dominating the Blazers pretty much the whole game and was up 20 at the end of the 3rd. The Blazers came roaring back in the 4th and was within 2 points with 15 seconds to go in the game, but couldn't get any closer.

This game needs to be a victory not only because it's the season opener, but because we need to avenge the post-Christmas loss from last year with a pre-Christmas win this year!

If DJJ plays and is fully there, I think we will win this game. I know we haven't seen this team perform yet but that was the preseason and has no bearing on what they can do when trying to win. The Jazz don't have as good of a starting lineup as we do and their bench is not close to ours. Unless we're still trying new **** and not worrying about the win (which I think is highly unlikely) we will beat the Jazz.

As far as the poll question goes, I only picked the two LA teams to finish ahead of us. I don't think any of the other teams has a distinct advantage in their starting lineups but we have the deepest bench in the league (maybe tied with the Clippers) which in this fast paced season where COVID will come into play, will put us ahead of so many teams when we see the standings on the final day of the regular season.

5/205 extension for Gobert. You better believe Nurk is going after a similar deal next yr. Obviously not as high, but not too far from it.

Watch Utah shoots 3s from everywhere, even Gobert lol

Must Win Game!

Before last season, Portland had won umpteen home openers in a row. I expect them to play well enough to get the win. Then the Houston Covids might be next with the chance to start 2-0.

Dame missed a free throw.
Season over.

Good start!

I don't like Nurk's hair. He looks like a Bosnian bucket mop.

CJ has 3 baskets and I think only one dribble on those baskets. Catch & shoot is when he's good. dribble and shoot is when he's not

I wonder if there will come a time when Nurk falling down doesn't give me PTSD.

God it’s annoying how EVERY ****ING TEAM hits all their threes against us.

Hey they’re hitting threes, let’s put in Melo and Kanter!

Yikes no D lineup

Going through Melo is insane when Dame is in.

melo has yet to pass the ball. im talking PASS. he hasn't done it once.

Look the same getting out rebound 17-11 and utah shooting 48 percent from the field 50 percent from the 3. Dame 0 points 4 assist.

I wonder if the team can petition the league to have this game count as a pre-season game.

our 3pt defense is abysmal

LOL still can’t defend the 3s... it’s ok it’s only pre-season, oh wait.... nvm

The problem with the second unit is it’s a horrible unit.

Melo is a black hole inside of a black hole.

jesus this is embarrassing.

Season over.

Well, this is an *** beating. Time to see if they can muster a comeback.

Jazz with 10 made '3's on 55% shooting...already!

This can't be that difficult to stop giving up WIDE OPEN looks.

what a humiliation

Other than (1) our offense and (2) our defense, I’d say we don’t look too bad.

Some of the worst basketball I have ever seen

Hey, at least it's equal opportunity suckage from our team. Nobody need feel like they're not the ones to blame - everybody's bad!

Just absolutely no ball movement. Melo goes out, CJ comes in....rinse, repeat.

So far we can’t shoot, pass or defend. Makes the game a lot harder

God I’m so ****ing sick of the selfish ball.

Blazers with a 5-0 run.....to get within 14.

Just keep leaving the 3 open. Sure. Why not.

They get every three they want, we get Nurk forcing 3 pointers

Team usa vs. Bangladesh

Dame scoreless in the first half. Seriously? This has to be the worst home opener in a decade. Remember that long streak they had winning home openers?

Also, **** Hurd and Kent for trying to convince the viewers this is just a shooting difference.

Talking about the Jazz making shots and the Blazers just missing, as if the Jazz aren't shooting WIDE open shots and the Blazers are taking contested threes from our ****ing center.

Watching this does anybody else feel...unclean?

I know that nothing is less relevant to the league than the fans. Still, I have some modicum of self respect and I just can't do this anymore.

On the small TV in the valet car, it doesn't look as bad.

Wow. Just, wow.

Having a black hole in the starting lineup and another black hole first of the bench is a bold strategy.

If we come back I’ll eat my own poop

Melo is playing like he thinks he's in mid 20's right now. His field goal percentage matches it.

I was so excited about this game... now I wanna cry

Wide open 3 after wide open 3

Everyone's trying hard to get their mid range fadeaways today lol

Gobert screen

Nurk drops

Pass to wing

Touch pass to corner

Open 3

Every single time

Kanter is a walking bucket on both ends of the court.

One time Tracy McGrady scored 13 points in 33 seconds. We just gotta do that like 3 times.

what the **** is clarkson on right now

This game has been painful to watch. Even Biofreeze can't ease this pain.

Nurk gets blasted in the face to add injury to insult.

Perhaps letting Bog shoot wide-open '3's from the corner is not such a good idea.

Were scoring and they’re still extending the lead

Nice Blazer run....to get within 24.

Every shot the Jazz take, even the missed ones, are wide open. That’s hard to do even if you tried.

Might as well start rooting for the Jazz

Ingles is like a Manu, just does a bit of everything pretty well. annoyingly well actually.

We be out rebound 46-29 and gave up 9 offense rebounds.

rough game for Dame. They are -23 with him on the court. He seemed focused on getting others involved which turned out to be a detriment to the team.

Play out of the timeout: Melo isolation fadeaway contested mid-range jumper.

Utah is a better team. Better coached team definitely.

The Blazers doing a great Washington Generals impression.

Speedy Joe Ingles beating every Blazer on and of
ball... unbelievable

Getting shredded by little house on the prairie

That referee, Ken Mauer plays better defense on Utah than the Blazers. This is how bad it's gotten.

i hate him, but Ingles is a very useful player.

****ing one game in and im already depressed. why do i let myself buy into this ********?

Haha my NBA league pass feed shut down with 3 minutes left in the game... it’s a Christmas miracle!

Thankfully this only counts as 1 loss. It feels like more.

Jazz get up 50 '3's. Holy blown defensive scheme Batman!!

Well, that was an absolute ***********. On defense we looked both lost and a step slow. On offense we couldn't throw a beach ball in the ocean and it looked like almost everyone had dead legs. Guys were fumbling balls away on both ends. No one and I mean no one seems in sync in any way. All of that is bad but I have one big fear about the early season.

What really pisses me off is we start great, other team calls timeout to cool us off. They go on a run and Stotts let’s them ride out the hot streak. This is coaching, use them to stop their run right away. Tempo disruption has to be a main tool in your arsenal.

"The Blazers should win a title with 1 all-star" - Things said by people who haven't watched the last 30 seasons of the NBA.

Kanter might be the worst defender in the league. They just abuse him on the pick and roll for the wide open 3s, knowing that he won’t help on switch

I refuse to watch the UTAH ****ING JAZZ humiliate us while Terry Stotts just sits there without making any adjustments to the rotation.

Jazz have a lot of good shooters. And the attention gobert gets at the basket makes it hard to double.

our main criteria for bringing guys here is that they jump for every pump fake

Clarkson's a good piece for them. Need to have more awareness on him in the second unit

The extreme drop off Gobert is killing us - yeah, he's not a pop threat, but that's 7'3 of human

the guards are getting caught on the screen, the big can’t get up to help fast enough. That’s a schematic issue on Stotts

It's just game 1. Relax. There will be a lot more games that look exactly like this.

No surprises tonight

Mike Connelly has historically been a Dame stopper when he is healthy
Roco/DJJ are AA/Harkless impersonators but not as good
Blitz and double team Dame and you solve the Blazers offense
Melo is awful when he is given the freedom to take a shot every time he touches the ball
Our three point defense is non-existent

Jazz make one pass and a decent shot. Make two passes and it’s a wide open three or an easy layup

Gobert is mediocre

And Nurk is getting absolutely destroyed by him right now

I guess it’s really easy to talk yourself into thinking you have a great bench. Kanter, Melo, Hood, and Trent Jr....really? That’s the deepest bench in the league and we’re not close to it?

I feel comfortable saying that the Jazz have the 3 best bench players in this matchup.

Kanter is a walking bucket on both ends of the court.
Very nice
Jazz get up 50 '3's. Holy blown defensive scheme Batman!!
Got a feeling this will be a theme this year.

From the start of” blazers have better starters and a waaaaay better bench” to where it ended was just beautiful. This is a Picasso.

JC, Joe, and Favs would all be the best player off their bench.

First opponent thread of the new season!

Out of their 4 bench guys...I think only Trent Jr would get minutes for us. But he'd still be behind Ingles and Clarkson fighting for time. DJJ probably wouldn't get much time either unless his shot is real.

Our top 8 is stacked, we really have the big 3 of benches. Clarkson should be a 6th man of the year candidate, but he might still be the third best player coming off our bench.
