Game Thread Feb 12, 2021 7:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Bucks

Added to Calendar: 02-12-21

Bucks want revenge for earlier this season but will be left with an even more bitter taste in their mouth. I don't see us losing this one.

Jazz are 2.5 point favorites. Seems like good action. Maybe Conley being out hurts us.

The number 1 team in the West vs. the #2 team in the East. ESPN has the Lakers against a 500 Memphis squad. On the upside, that will be a closer game for them.

My guess is Mike is back tomorrow.

If he's being ruled out this early for this game he's definitely not back tomorrow.
He could be ruled out this early because they’re planning to have him come back on the second night of a back to back.

Big game. Statement game for the Jazz.

Let's see if they come out guns blazing and take control from the start.

I think this is a tough game, especially with Conley out.

I think they will be extra cautious. I'm guessing another week. Its one of those injuries that feels fine until you go full speed and tweak it.

They need to let Mike sit for a few games, say 5 or 6, maybe 8. Make sure he is in good shape for a stretch run to get most of our playoff seeding in, then sit him again for 5-6 games toward the end of the season, bringing him back in for a final push so he is ready for the playoffs. Same for Favors. I would be fine if we dropped to a 2-seed or even 3 if it means we have our entire squad available, rested and energized, for the run to the ring.

Maybe, but it's quite possible he's been out this long because of caution. Like, this may have been something that they would have never held him out for, but because of last year they want to be extra, extra cautious. We're making our assumption on how bad it is based on the fact that he's already missed a week, without knowing why he's missed a week.

I have no idea and am not saying this is the case, just saying there can be other angles in here.

This needs to be a big Bojan game. I'm talking 40 points. 9/14 from deep. Free throws. Fouled a couple times on threes. Dunks.

Sit a guy 5-6 games before the playoffs so he is in shape?

That's a huge contradictory statement.

Obviously the intent is to have him sit for a few games now, then come back for a dozen games or so, then go out for a few games, then come back for the last dozen games or so and the playoffs. But I forget you are not a person of much nuance, so that is probably hard to understand, so I will lay it out for you.

We have 47 more games so something like this:

Sit now for 4 more games (43 left) - we go 3-1 in this time
Play for 20 games (23 left) - we go 17-3 in this time
Sit for 6 games (17 left) - we go 4-2 in this time (sitting favors at the same time)
Play last 17 games and the playoffs - we go 14-3 in this time

We finish at 58-14, #1 seed (maybe #2 if the Lakers go off). That is 66 wins in a normal 82 game season.

Or some such combination (remember this means the combinations can be different). Load management essentially for our guys with a propensity to injury, to get them in tune for the final stretch run and the playoffs.

Now you can argue that they need to have him sit for only 6 games in the middle, and that 15 at the end is the wrong number, it should be 16, or that they should never plan on sitting anyone, or that we need to move 1 more game earlier and 1 more game later, and that is why this is all completely wrong and I am stupid, or whatever other ******** you feel you need to nitpick.

If Bojan takes off that will keep Giannis engaged on D and hopefully limit his offense some. I think we have a very good shot in this game. I see us winning it.

Just limit his minutes. No need to hold him out of games and lose rythym/game shape.
