What's new

Conley wants to resign. “Utah’s got me.”

We always give one extra year that we shouldn't so this would make sense.

I think we are choosing between Bojan and Mike this offseason. If we can't find a trade partner for Bogey then someone might be making that decision for us.
I think it largely depends on how well they do in the playoffs. If they make the Finals, or maybe even the WC Finals, I can see the new owner spending. He's a rich tech bro who grew up a Jazz fan, it could happen.

I agree... not only is he a rich tech bro... he brought in his richer tech bro friends. I can see them texting diamond hands to each other when they re-sign Mike.

This all depends on how far we go. If we win a couple series, its worth it financially to keep it going. Sustained relevance pays off financially in the NBA.

If we fizzle out in the playoffs and he doesn't perform very well, then he is the first and easiest sacrifice. Extending Conley only makes sense if he plays outstanding when it absolutely matters most.

Regular season PER is helpful and cute, but we need him in the playoffs.

The thread title reads as "Conley wants to quit".

polite as Mike, how far is he able to play two Yrs maybe 3 Yrs? Imagine - discount Mike in 2nd unit with Clarkson Favors and Joe I. and someone like Bradley Beal with Don in backcourt.
just dreaming

Although as mediocre as he has been he has definitely been better than Bradley.
I think he's been better than mediocre... I get that it doesn't look pretty some nights, but the defense is average when he's out there and the offense doesn't fall off.

He's not as good as Rudy... no one is. Favs has been about as good as we could have reasonably hoped.

Probably true.

This is a dark-horse contender for post of the year.

Because... *drum roll*...

The Jazz don't have any ****ing money, my peeps. I am telling you, only way Conley stays is if he takes a cheap/reasonable deal AND Favors is shipped to Charlotte or some ****.
Would be a tough look for us to re-sign Mike and then trade Favs because of budget cuts when he chose to come here (who knows what kind of offers he had).

The money issue gets fairly ugly... basically if we don't make the finals or get close I don't see us bringing back Mike and Bojan. 45M in tax next year is one thing... the repeater tax the following year would be baaaadddd. Maybe you can move that last year of Bogey and keep it together for one more year after this one.

I like Bojan... the issues are two fold with him though... defense is gonna be dicey in some situations and the ball stopping/decisiveness issues drive me a little crazy. I have a hard time finding the guy who would be an upgrade over him though. His defense has been mostly fine this year... if he isn't making shots he's a negative on the court for sure. He's been up and down but is close to his prior year averages... I just think we all remember early season Bogey from last year and I'm not sure we are going to get that guy for a sustained period this year. We will see.

He's easily the best center you can get that would be willing to come play behind Gobert. No non-minimum type center that doesn't absolutely love Utah or is drafted here is going to play behind Rudy. If it were Udoh instead, he would be the most hated guy on these boards since the LAST center that couldn't effectively back up Rudy.

Front load next year with drastically descending 2nd and 3rd year, with the 3rd year being a player option w/not much money which gives both parties flexibility.

I still think the Jazz find a way to get under the salary cap this year. Likely by dropping Harrison. We also need to realize that there will be a new CBA in place before we would have to pay the repeater tax, even if we couldn't get under it this year. I think we lose Favors after next year, perhaps Ingles too (I could see him retiring after 2 championships.) Resigning Conley on a discount is valuable to the Jazz for other reasons outside of his value as a player.

Smith isn't just about "rehabbing" the Jazz. I think he has plans for "rehabbing" the image of the state as well. A championship level NBA team is helpful for that.

That's what we thought last time and saw how bad Bradley and Davis was. No guarantee we history doesn't repeat.
Ya but it was in the context of losing favors to keep Conley and I just think Conley is a better player than favors at this point
