There are only so many starting gigs, and non-shooting centers are a dime a dozen. Also, Favors is physically incapable of playing serious minutes night in and night out. This gig is real cushy for him.

But yeah, he's probably the best we could hope for in that role (a strict-backup, non-shooting C). It's just a real steep price for a skillset that's not rare and for strict backup minutes when the Jazz are going to be in the LT every year and have much more pressing needs.

My obsession for, I don't know, 5 years is for a stretchy, switchy big that starts (nominally, at least) at the 4 and backs up Rudy since we haven't had a longterm piece for either slot. The PF by committee thing is currently going well but there are an abundance of situations in the past where it really has left a ton to be desired. It's why I was kind of obsessed with getting Christian Wood this off-season, or wish the Jazz would draft anyone with any kind of potential in that way. I'll settle for a project that doesn't satisfy every single criterion. Instead this team just drafts guards and non-shooting pure centers and it's ****ing weird to me. They could've drafted Shake Milton (who is at least a wing) in '18 but SOLD THE PICK FOR 500k. And we're talking about being $45 MILLION in the LT? Sorry if I'm skeptical that a billionaire is going to ignore every instinct of sensible financial policy that got them the money to begin with, given how teams typically operate, and especially this franchise in particular.

TLDR; Just enjoy this season, cuz we're gonna see some real culling and aging in the coming seasons with no assets to cushion the blows.

How much extra does the team make for going to the finals? Would it cover the extra luxury tax payments?

I’m not sure it’s a profitable endeavor if we are talking about covering 45M in tax and 15M in additional salary. Prolly adds some funds to the coffee and increased franchise value for a small time... won’t realize that gain.

He would get additional celebrity and status which has monetary and business benefits.

The good news is if it was a loss he could write it off... cue Kramer. So it’s not as much of a money suck.

I think he's been better than mediocre... I get that it doesn't look pretty some nights, but the defense is average when he's out there and the offense doesn't fall off.

He's not as good as Rudy... no one is. Favs has been about as good as we could have reasonably hoped.

Tbh, i thought his legs would be a bit to some better, but still works fine most of the time (and were succesfull when he and Rudy played together)

Yes can only go up or down 8% of the previous years value. So could do 20M, 18.4M, 16.9M... not that big of a benefit.

Could do like 3/45 and have the final year only like 3M guaranteed. Spreads the cap hit a bit and gives him extra money if he’s cooked by then.

Morgan otoh i wonder if his qualities will ever be what we're looking for a big man. I liked our zone defense with him, but we prefer drop big coverage, and on offense he's not a rim runner. To play as a pf, i'd want his shot to be some better, but actually wanted more of his pf minutes last playoffs, just that now Niang minutes actually been rightely earned, but in a condition where we'd be getting size bullied and our 3 pointers well restrained, i'd posibly (or problably) want some Morgan minutes out there. Hope he gets some reps out of garbage before the end of the regular season so we can see more of what we could hope to get from him

You DRASTICALLY underrate Favors. He shoots just fine, just not out to three point range. He's not really replaceable for what we could get to come here. We need to hope like Hell that Doke becomes serviceable, because that is your best chance at a Favors replacement. Favors is good enough to play starter minutes against most teams which allows us to use Gobert differently than we did last year when we just tried to survive without Rudy on the court giving up huge runs.

As I mentioned, the new CBA will be in place before we pay the repeater tax. I'd wager we'd be fine, especially as they always include an amnesty with those things.

Morgan and Brantley just won't figure into any real future the Jazz have. The best case is something like Niang, and we already have a Niang. Our hope lies with Oni, Doke, and Hughes.

They don’t always include an amnesty in the new cba.

Also there are lots of ways to replace Favs. He’s valuable for sure but a stretch five could open up some things offensively... same thing with a passing big... Boucher in Toronto blocks shots and hits threes and he signed for slightly less than Favs. I love Favs he’s great... of our top 8 guys he might be the easiest to replace.

Investing in a center to replace your backup center in 3 years is some of the dumbest asset planning I can think of. Unless you have an injury he has no way to get on the floor. Even a guy like Tillman might have had a chance to play some along those guys. The Dok pick was dumb... he could be the next coming of Clint Capela we may not find out until year 4.

Not sure, but I would assume that it would bring it a good amount and would contribute to the overall value of the franchise which is where the real money is made
