Trade deadline discussion

My question is regarding Miami. They’re obviously looking to compete and they have no need to drop Harkless. Unless he’s wanting out, we don’t have anything to offer them that incentivizes a trade and, likewise, there wouldn’t be much incentive to buy him out.
He fits in our trade exception... so its Ryan's money that would be appealing. He's already out of the rotation so they may just want the money savings... they lowkey make money moves to save a few bucks every year.

If Tony is speculating on it then it likely has legs. He usually doesn't get too into specific guys unless he's hearing stuff.

I know he's mentioned Harkless before (not any time recent).

I think I advocated getting Harkless about 4 or 5 years ago....
So this is probably happening.

He is a good defender, he has good size, not a good 3 pt shooter but not awful. I would love to have him.

I think Bogdanovic for Aaron Gordon would be a discussion. Not sure either team would pull the trigger, but it would be a discussion.

Jazz would lose 3% or 4% of Bogdanovic's 3pt shooting, but would add some athleticism, 3 rebounds, half a block and half a steal.

I'd do that in a second... I think its in the realm of possibility if we add a 1st to Bojan. AG's contract is preferable... year shorter... less next year. If we are a title contender still can bring him back... if not we can reconfigure.

If we add a 1st I want either Markkanen from the bulls or John Collins from Atlanta.

Neither of those guys solve the issues we have and both aren't necessarily ready to start winning right now. Lauri is basically Bad Bojan at this point. Trending the right way but always hurt and inconsistent as hell.

Gordon hasn't played since February 2nd. Swapping him for Bojan hurts us considerably this year. I believe Gordon makes more money this year than Bojan.

He makes right about the same but his salary declines... we’d save like 8-9m between salary and tax next year.

He has been hurt but he also really wants out so I’m guessing they aren’t bringing him back and giving him lots of minutes until the trade deadline passes.

I think he’s a little over rated but say we are in the playoffs against the clips, Lakers or nets... who you want Bojan or AG? I’d like to have AG but understand if someone preferred Bojan.

The career difference is 7.2%, that's a big downgrade. Not putting stock in a 90 shot sample size of this year.

I think the Jazz could do things to unlock Gordon though. He's never played on a good team. He has some ability as a facilitator and roll finisher that are probably under-utilized. If he's your 4th or 5th option offensively, and focuses on being a help defender on defense, he could be a nice piece.

We are pretty much a bystander at this point unless DL can call his bodies in New York, Cleveland or Detroit to take on Bogey’s contract. I mean he's been exploited by these teams plenty in the past, maybe they will return the favor one day. Why not now?

I think if we make a big trade its a sign they see this team as a legit title contender. They may not have a good deal available to them... but if Aaron Gordon or an equivalent player move and we had enough assets to get it will be telling.

The issue to me is that if we don't show we are a contender this year, then is Ryan really going to shell out like 50-60M in tax to keep Conley around and run it back? We have a 1-2 year window before we need to have a fairly major pivot. We don't have much coming up through the pipeline... if we don't do anything and could have it just kinda signals to me that the front office doesn't really think we can win a title.
