Trade deadline discussion

So latest rumors are Houston wants Aaron Gordon now? willing to put up two firsts for him? IDK wtf they are doing but I'd be happy to ship a first to Houston so they can route the pick to Orlando if they wanna throw Tate our way.

Houston sounds like a total **** show... how they didn't pull Caris instead of Vic is so dumb... just call them every day because they gonna do something dumb.
Not sure Hou knows what they are doing......

Basically gave Jarrett Allen to Cleveland for free.

Gave Oladipo a huge contract extension that was luckily turned down.

Playing a washed Wall in front of KPJ despite the latter's recent breakout performances.

They are a rebuilding team and need to be looking at themselves as such.

Plus took Vic instead of Caris... I think they got a first for re-routing Allen at least... and they have Wood.

Why would you want Gordon on a 1 year deal basically? He will also help them win a little more this year.

If I am Aaron I'd make sure my agent lets them know I won't be re-signing... can you imagine spending that much time in Orlando on a treadmill team just to go to Houston now. Yeesh!

Orlando will get a better offer, I’d bet.

And AG isn’t a win-now piece, is he? Where’s the evidence for that status?
I think he is. He's a vet and he's a good defender... He has stuff that could be unlocked... BUT

I think the idea of Gordon is likely better than the actual Gordon. I can see why some still want to make the case for him.

I'm just not as high on Gordon as most.
I'm mixed on him. I can see the appeal due to his athleticism and ability to play defense. But he isn't an improvement right away for us and there more important to me.

If we want a defensive improvement play Oni more. He's been a huge difference maker this year, more than the Defensive guy we signed and cut this year.

To your first point... I would think so too. Teams don't seem to be selling so those that are might get a premium. The rumored deals for Aaron were not better than our "offer" though which lead me to think... maybe we have enough.

In the end I think they will do pretty well for him if they move him. I don't see them getting a premium asset but a couple of okay firsts is my guess.

I think there'd be a high likelihood he looks invisible on the floor.

He’s too much of an Alec Burks for me: capable of making uniquely athletic plays, but seemingly incapable of making the right play.

that can break an offense.

I’ve never been wowed by his defense, but I don’t watch Orlando very often.

Gordon is a win now piece compared to Bojan.

Better rebounding AND better shooting(40% from 3 this year). Whether we can get him is another story. But there is no doubt that he's the definite upgrade over Bojan at this point.

It feels like playing a guy like him or Shaq 8-10 minutes a night just to cause havoc would give us an energy boost we sorely need some nights.
Shaq needs the minutes to have impact but Payton is a lockdown defender which Shaq never was. He can make more out of spot minutes where we need a stop.

With regard to Oni... he played solid defense in the Boston game a month or two ago on one of their wings (iirc). He doesn't stand out but really neither does Niang except when he is making mistakes or hitting shots.

I think Oni should get the time allocated to Niang. His quick trigger three, the defense, and the other thing we do is send the corner shooter screaming in for offensive boards... he's been amazing at that.

If he can get good at that he might get more comfortable with the other stuff... even if he is just good at that stuff... we need that more than what Niang brings.

I like Payton... he's probably better as a disruptor and as a lockdown guy than Shaq. I think Shaq was more balanced but I'd be on board with Payton if they play him as a wing and not a pg.

There will be some that will state how teams will play off him... that is fine if the guy can pass and dribble. It gives a release valve and the player has some room to attack. With guys like Roberson they really couldn't do all three which makes it much worse.

Oni should play more, but not for that reason. Niang has played pretty solid defense and stood out a bunch this year. Last year I would agree with that statement but he's earned his minutes this year. Also they aren't playing the same position much if at all.

Won't expect Gordon to sustain his shooting for the rest of his career and don't really need him to be. All we care about is this 2021 season so if he is having an outlier season in 2021 shooting the ball that is good news for the Jazz. He might revert back to his average shooting at some point. But as long as it doesn't happen during this season we can live with it. Even if it does he won't hurt us nearly as much because he can actually rebound and play some D.

Same goes for Bogey, who is having an underwhelming season thus far trying to recover from his wrist surgery. He might be able to recover at some point. But if that time doesn't come soon enough and it really isn't helping us.

This season might be our best chance at a championship in nearly 25 years, why wait another year?
