Trade deadline discussion

This is why DL drives me a little crazy... its always weird stuff around the edges... I could spend the next 24 hours mapping out how he has some master plan of what he is doing here but there is really no point. We add a guy that won't play (would he even be ahead of Oni in the rotation?) and give up a pick to do it. The guy also does not address a current need.

Its almost like using a 1st on a guy that is your fourth string center... great... he might be talented... he will never see the court doe.
Also kind of why I really like DL. I think he definitely has a talent for finding guys on the fringes.

So FWIW the Jazz could have drafted RJ Hamption, who became one of the key ingredients in the Aaron Gordon trade.

I think they are just trying to develop a guy with a motion shooting skill-set. Think about it more as a long-term project than anything that will payoff this year.
There is still a roster spot without waiving anyone. What is not to like? He is a homey kind of guy. Undrafted, has had a DUI, got his shot in college when Naz got hurt, played two season in Spain averaging double figures there, and lit up the Vegas Summer League a couple of years ago. Seems like a shorter younger Kyle Korver.

Thomas feels like a move for next year as we get into the tax filled future, he's on a good contract. It's not a bad value even though we don't need him now.
These... I think this is a move with next year in mind. If we have to let Mike walk or trade JC then this guy might provide some cheap bench minutes.

My beef is we have needs this year that we should address... I guess we can waive someone if OP jr. or someone good comes along.

How is this a money saving move when we are in tax hell? They could have used the pick to unload a guaranteed salary, not bring one (even if partially guaranteed)

I guess they want a closer look at him and get his bird rights. To be honest, I have no idea who this guy is.
True. And Quin likes shooters for his system. I'm sure he will get some PT compared to Shaq.

Here’s my beef:

We should be doing the buyout market. We don’t have a roster spot now. Unless we’re wanting to waive a developmental guy, which I think we’ll be reluctant to do, then this move comes at the cost of actually putting chips on the table this year.

Who do you waive? Udoka? Not happening. Morgan? They like him. Hughes? Ditto. So, uh, yeah...
Nothing stopping the Jazz from the buyout market. It's not like rostering Juwan Morgan is going to prevent them from accepting OPJR's services.

It seems like trading Lou Williams would upset the Clippers locker room. He's a mainstay there.

Can't believe the Hawks got Lou Williams AND 2 2nd rounders for Rondo. Clippers must really need a leader.

Depending on who is moved this summer, I can definitely see Matt Thomas being in the rotation and at $1.8M that is a steal.

At this point, the FO probably knows whether or not they have a real shot at OPJ and we could easily waive Ersan anyways so I'm not too bothered about the buyout market. Was there a better player we could have traded for with the 2nd rounder? I'm not sure. I will forever be on Stanley Johnson island but his deal is up this season.

It's funny how the Jazz are building a roster so much like the ones I used to build on NBA2K.

I always had a ton of shooters and a shot blocking center. The backup center was also a rim protector. My best offensive player was an all around type guy who could hit tough 3's.

The main thing - shooters everywhere.

Clippers have the same issues as Boston, that is the lack of a floor general and playmaker. Still don't know what Celtics is doing. Kemba is really just a SG trapped in a PG’s body. They should be going for all the playmakers.

Very informative video for those who don’t know who he is. It’s a good watch.

OMG!!! Love this pickup. He’s not Mr 99 for nothing. I’d bet if he gets minutes over the next few years he will have as good a shooting rep as anyone. Just as good a shooter as JJ and a much better defender. I think he has a bad rep because he plays for a team full of good to elite athletic defenders.

Our rotation is really good leading to the best record in the NBA. However, the truth is though these guys aren't good enough, and will get exposed in the playoffs.

Royce would be the best upgrade if we could get a bigger wing in there. Again we might miss Royce's good all around play, and unselfishness.....but
in the end he will be attacked and owned deep in the playoffs. We could keep Royce if Bogie was upgraded. Someone has to go. We need more size, defence, and athleticism for a title run period.

Basically the ingredients alone are all nice, but when we add them all together it's a good but not great meal.

We won't make any moves today, and we won't win a title this year. Maybe offseason pressure will force some moves. Its devastating for us Jazz fans as this
might be our best chance a a title with this core.
