Have you heard about this feud with Michael Rapaport? The league has punished players before for using anti-gay slurs, but this seems particularly egregious. There’s also the fact that he’s now displayed a pattern of behavior on social media.

The NBA exists in a toxic masculinity/locker-room culture, much like Trump's "grab'em by the *****" excuses. You know, men talk, the way "real men" talk, not these wussy "woke" men, but real men who like their women grabbed by the ***** and their gays pushed OUT of the locker rooms! Deeply entrenched in that culture is the need to appear to be as masculine as possible, hence the heaps of ridicule and scorn doled out to Rudy when he showed emotion about being snubbed, which lead in no small part to Rudy and Donovan being picked last. There's no crying in basketball! Playground and locker room mentality reigns supreme. And the long terrible track record of professional athletes toward women is known. This is no surprise that this is the culture. I am sure Durant is just the tip of the iceberg. I seem to remember Amaeche talking about this when he came out, and the way he would be shunned in the locker room. It will be a very very tough thing to ever get ahead of, and it is highly unlikely the league does anything about it. The league has become 100% the players' league, from them choosing their next destinations to play with their buddies to try to stack for a championship, to following their lead on every social issue they find important, hence the heavy (and necessary) focus on BLM. But this part is not something the players will embrace, they are not that "woke". They just want what they feel is their right, their entitlement, which entails raking in millions and selectively championing social causes. Most of them are barely grown "adults" who act like 14 year-old kids in the locker room and on the playground, even in their mid-30's. I do not expect this to either be taken seriously nor acted on by the league. It will just fade away until the next time one of them goes on an anti-gay rant, which will happen. But right now the players have the power, they feel entitled, and there is really nothing that can or will change that.

Can you imagine the backlash if Durant were suspended or fined or, worse, banned for a season, for something like this, even if that is EXACTLY what might happen with a less powerful public personality? The league would have to face the wrath of legions of fans and others upset they dared mess with one of the darlings of the NBA.

The whole situation is ugly and I do not expect the NBA to do anything about it at all. They have shown over the years that they have a huge capacity for staying silent. And that is exactly what will happen here, regardless of what he might deserve.

It should also be noted that Durant pointedly did NOT apologize for saying what he said. He apologized that people SAW it. That’s the thing that takes this all to another level for me.
 
I also think it is funny, and fitting, that the account Durant used for that exchange was called "easymoneysniper" considering he is a coattail rider to get rings. lol

Well they made their statement: derogatory black comment = end of career (made more or less in jest); derogatory LGBTQ comment (made in severe anger with a personal bodily threat) = no biggie, give us (what seriously amounts to) $5.00 and you're good. Statement made.

Anti-gay/trans laws get the NBA all-star game removed from a state. Anti-gay slurs and threats by a superstar that brings in a lot of $$$ for the NBA gets ignored. Sounds about right. :/

Rappaport is such a tool. Dude was exposed on Stern's show for being a rat and a hypocrite.

He should never have released the DMs. Those were private. I certainly don't condone what Durant said, but Rappaport leaking it was rat move. Especially, because he's done and said the same things to Bababooyie.
