Utes 2011 Football Discussion

Wait when did this thread get moved to Clutchfans and their insistent talk of their 94 & 95 championships.

Back on topic, I really need to get a antenna that will pick up the over the air feed since DTV doesn't have KJZZ HD, the one I have wont pick up most over the air channels, guess I'm to close to the tower out near 8400W.
After KJZZ stopped airing Jazz games, there was no need for me to ever watch that channel again.

If you're talking about the Utes games that KJZZ airs, they are all on other HD channels anyway (Fox Sports).

It may just be my package but when games are on KJZZ I've only seen them on the opposing team's Fox station which I don't have or shows blacked out.
Which also brings me to another thing I noticed on the channel lineup menu I've noticed a message saying DTV might be losing FX along with several other channels like Fox sports channels, anybody else look or hear about this? I only care if it affects me watching the Jazz or Utes.

Must be your package because I have watched pretty much all of them on the Fox Sports channels for the other team. I haven't watched one on KJZZ yet this season.

I have seen those commercials too about the Fox Sports channels and FX. I hope they get it worked out before that Utah Arizona game because that game is only on Fox Sports, no KJZZ.

Problem is, BYU isn't getting paid a higher rate for the Texas and Ole Miss games this year becaue those were road games that fell under the home teams TV contracts. Obviously when Texas makes the trip to Provo next year BYU will probably get a little more $$$ from ESPN, but I have to wonder how long ESPN is going to want to pay BYU $1 million dollars to play the likes of Idaho State and Idaho. Just another reason why it's crucial for them to find a long term home IMO.

This isn't neccessarily aimed at you Spazz, but I find it strange that some BYU fans take shots at Utah for not making any money the next couple of years. First of all, even though it is true that they are going to take a few years to become 100% financial members in the Pac 12, they're still making much more than they would have had they stayed in the MWC. As Salty already has posted, the windfall for Utah in the future is going to be beyond huge. Once you average out the TV money, conference championship game money, BCS money and merchandising rights, most estimates put Utah and all the other Pac 12 schools at around 30 mil/per year.

That's an astounding number considering what Utah or BYU had been pulling in during the MWC years. For the haters that expect Utah not to compete going forward, I think they vastly underestimate what Chris Hill and Kyle Whittingham can do with a program thats bringing in $30 million dollars annually.

I really don't care, I'm just stirring the pot out of boredom. The best thing the Utes can do with their money is to get a new stadium that seats more, get better facilities, and gear. Money hasn't done much for enough BCS schools that it doesn't really matter. You can suck with money too.

If... if... if...

If Wynn had been injured, and Roscoe knew his *** from a hole in the ground, things would have been a lot different!

That game is done. You really need to get over it.

They both have message boards. You should spend more time there.

Hey fun game! If If If!

That's what I keep hearing from Ute fans too. Which is why I brought it up.

BYU blew it. Waaaaayyyyyyyyy too arrogant. I think that's what happens when you let a bunch of philosophy, English, and religious dudes make these decisions.

BYU should have joined the Big 12 at ALLLLLLLL COSTS.

Right now, I wouldn't blame Dave Rose if he left. In fact, I'd encourage it.

BYU threw every other sport under the bus while also selling their Football fans out. We don't want to watch Idaho. We want Oklahoma. We could care less about some BYU channel that no one watches anyway.

The money wasted on that stupid channel would have been made back eventually with the money made in the Big 12.

The exposure would have been so much greater had they been playing against big time competition. Who cares if you're playing Idaho? That isn't exposure. Playing Texas and OU in every sport is.

In every aspect, BYU has blown Jon Hays chunks all over. They've lost in every aspect with blowing the Big 12 gig. They should have been in crawling on their hands and knees like Utah to get into the Big 12.

All well.

No way would BYU beat Utah right now. Utah's defense is still top notch and the run game would still run all over BYU.

BYU fans need to keep things in perspective. All the praise Riley is getting for beating crappy teams is the same praise Heaps was getting last year for beating crappy teams.

Meanwhile, Utah has been losing to good teams. Watch Utah's offense suddenly "improve" a great deal for the rest of the season now that Utah has a few easier teams on the schedule. I don't want to say they have "crappy" teams ahead in this context because they are still a whole lot better than San Jose State/Idaho State/etc. Utah has been losing to some pretty good teams. BYU is not one of those teams.

When is the last time BYU beat a team that finished with a winning record? It's been a few years, right? Well, except for that San Diego State robbery last year.

Good teams? I think it's debatable whether Cal was good. But hey, anything to make a winless team feel better.

At least you folks are losing!

The bottom line is, Utah's complete stinky diaper that they're laying this season isn't doing mid-majors any good. You folks are proving exactly what Craig James and the rest of the elitist crowd has been saying for years. YOU DON'T BELONG. You cannot compete week in and week out in their league.

So thanks Utah for doing us a favor a few years ago by barely beating a Rich Rod Mich team (about as tough as beating a Kurt Rambis led Timberwolves team), a Oregon St. team, and a disinterested Bama team. You did us a favor then. But now, what you proved then is being proven today, YOU DON'T BELONG.

Fellow Midmajors thank you. Our only hope now is that TCU doesn't suck *** like you guys have.

Neither BYU and Utah fans should be talking trash about each other right now. Neither team is worth much praise. Hence, why I haven't been talking up any team from this state after about week two. These teams are completely underachieving.

LOL, I don't think the Utes need to build, or will be building a "new" stadium anytime soon. RES is probably in one of the most beautiful spots for a college stadium in the nation and years of upgrades have made it more than suitable. Obviously at some point they'll want to fill in the south endzone which they estimate can add about 8,000 to 10,000 new seats. Not to mention it will make the stadium even louder.

As far as money not automatically translating into success, you are 100% right. Teams like Washington State have been getting big pay days for years and it hasn't turned into success on the field. My point with that is that Chris Hill has a great track record, I think SLC is quietly becoming a nice place to recruit kids to and I have alot of faith in Chris Hill and Utah Athletics in regards to using all of that money to only make it easier to recruit kids to Utah. (new facilities, gear, etc.) Long story short, don't expect Utah to mismanage their new found cashflow.

The Utes aren't winless, remember, they smashed BYU, lol. They also smashed Pitt, making their offense look completely inept. Well Pitt scored 35 points last night on 529 yards of total offense (against a BCS team). They are now 4-4, and will finish the season as a BCS team with a winning record.

We'll see if Cal ends up with a winning record when it's all said and done. My guess is they will.

The Utes are giving up an average 33 points in their last 3 conference games. That's not a "top notch" defense by any stretch of the imagination.

As far as winless... You might want to check this out:

https://espn.go.com/college-football/conferences/standings/_/id/9/pacific-12-conference

Utes are proving exactly what critics have been saying for years. You can look good against Wyoming, UNLV (well... sometimes. I still remember when you lost to them after beating UCLA), and New Mexico. Sure, you can get up for a BCS school every now again. But you cannot survive in their conferences.

Your 0-4 and soon to be 0-5 record is proving just that. Use all the excuses, IFs, and pictures of BJ holding a trophy all you want. But it still doesn't change the fact that you guys have been a complete embarrassment in the "Conference of Champions" so far. If Whit has another year like this, he'll be on unemployment benefits.

The Utes defense is most certainly not giving up that many points. A lot of those were scored by the other teams' offense and special teams.
