What's new

Our “load management” strategy has been horrible

I am guessing that we weren’t sure how competitive we would end up being in today’s game and then it ended up being very close so we went for it.

I also think since it was on ESPN they might not have been real happy with is sitting Joe and JC on top of all the other guys being out.

The middle of the road approach is a little curious but when Rudy’s crystal speaks we have to listen I guess.
I'm gonna start using load management on your mom.

Agreed. It might work out but I don't know ... it feels like every time you're banking on another team to do something, it never happens.

I get the Jazz still control their own destiny but these games against bad teams, or depleted teams, that you lose makes relying on Phoenix to drop a few more games all the more likely.

that's no problem PHX are about to lose a good handful of games

Looks more to me like we need some "injuries" like the Lakers always use. Let's get the #4 seed, let the Nuggets knock out PHX, and save it all for the Lakers.

Some coaches really know how this works.

jes' sayin'.

4 &5 seed positions look meaningless, almost. Lakers don't need to "move up" for anything.. It is a bit hard on the tickets sales to be away, but LA is still gonna be rationing seats anyway.

Sorry, I'm being really sarcastic in here tonight. Look at all our wounded warriors right now. Gotta wonder what's goin' down.

Gotta wonder who's better at throwin' games, us or the Lakers. I'm betting on the Lakers to win the loss.

Nuggets knocks out PHX without Murray? Lol

Good point. We'll see.

(edit) I had actually heard about the Murray injury, but I had to look at the current news to see what the status is. The news makes it out as almost irreplaceable loss for Denver. But their guys and some of their rising stars look impressive too.

Denver was making a run on everybody when this happened. I think they are still pretty good. It won't be a Laker's blowout series, or a Phoenix blowout. They will play, and it's about 20% they win the first round.

Not going to respond to it all, but the Lakers choice was clearly to conceal information about matchups. They didnt want to give the Lakers team a chance to play against them without having the benefit of getting Lebron/AD Lakers for their own information.

And Favors has one of his highest block percentages of his career. I dont know what the advanced data says about what teams shoot on him in the paint, but he's still a rim protector. We are just absolutely spoiled by Gobert.

I already was preparing myself for this, but the team media arm says Quinn prefers experience with guys together as much as possible. Translation familiarity>rest.

Quin played the same players and same rotation all the season.
I'm glad we have the 1st seed, but it is not a good approach to develop the young players.
We can win games also trying to involve more the young bench players.

If we face injuries, our young players won't be ready to perform in the playoffs because of the lack of experience and playing minutes.

There could be a scenario where the Clippers slip to the #4 seed and have to play the Lakers in the 1st round. Jazz would prefer for the LA teams to matchup on the other side of the playoff bracket, but either way, it's better for the LA teams to play each other before playing the Jazz.

We couldn't stagger Mike and JC for Wizards game, Clarkson weren't available, he came back for the Pacers game, not against OKC

For real, It seems the only question for me was "why not rest everyone else ?", as resting Conley and Rudy seemed pretty easy self explained choices.

But, well, we still needed to get Clarkson back in rhythm, help Bogey find his confidence and mojo back, Royce is younger and rested recently. Is easy to understand for these three, Ingles seems a case of "there's not anyone else to be a PG in this game and we remain any competitive", and i thought we should've just punted it, but, in the end we were one defensive stop away to get a win that could prevent another game to everyone

I think people freak out wayyyy too much about a few minutes here and there when it comes to resting players. I'm not even sure that Quin leaves his players in during blowouts more than other teams but I see that complaint over and over. The losing team is waves the white flag first, that's as old as time. If I'm being honest, I think it's really just fans wanting to see the young guys which is also as old as time. The real reason why people whine so much about this stuff is because they want to see Elijah Hughes play or whatever.

Nobody on the this tame plays huge minutes. I don't think it's a big deal that someone plays a few more minutes every now and then. I don't think it's a big deal that the starters stay in for a minute or two when the game is in hand. Likewise, I don't think it's a big deal that Quin played his players bigger minutes in a game that had OT.

When it comes to rest, the more impactful decision is whether the player suits up or not. 5-10 minutes on any given night isn't going to make a difference, but getting the chance to completely rest your body for the day will. I personally would have liked to see Bogey, Ingles, O'Neale, Clarkson ect all sit....but if they had pulled that win off I'd also probably be saying it was worth it for them to play. I am hopeful that we see some consistent full rest days for the rotation players...which says a lot about the sad state of the regular season but that's a different discussion.

People are always nickel and diming Quin/FO office for the wrong things IMO.
Amen. And we expect that they have a crystal ball so every decision incorporates things that happen in the future. Making mountains out of molehills.

This happen last year. We play Morgan more minutes in playoff than he play in season. Quin not still learn.
