Utes 2011 Football Discussion

Nope. They lose. Just like Utah loses to USC, Cal, ASU, WU, etc.
There is no "etc" there. You listed all of Utah's losses. Colorado State already has more than that, and they have more than that every year.

Like I said, Utah is one of the better teams of the Pac 12, even when Utah has an injury plagued year and is at rock bottom. Colorado State hasn't been one of the better teams in the MWC in a long time.

Tha Pac 12 is a 12 team conference. It's not the 8 team MWC. So for Utah to be among the better teams in the Pac 12 even when at their worst, is nothing at all like Colorado State always sucking in the MWC.

Now BYU, you could make an argument that BYU is like Colorado State. After all, BYU is the team that can't beat anyone with a winning record, like Colorado State.

There is a severe drop off between the 2-3 good teams in the PAC-12 and the rest of the league. Utah is not amongst the 2-3 good teams.

And yet BYU has not beat a team even good enough to be 2nd tier pac-12 in how long? Not this year or last year. In fact when was the last time BYU beat anybody who was even slightly above average. Was it 1984? Sure seems like it.

Trout brought back one of Salty's old posts here and I just realized Salty was wrong (I know, it's hard to believe). Salty said this:
Just remember, blowing chunks in your opinion or not, the Pac 12 champ goes to the Rose Bowl. And maybe even the national championship, with the second place Pac 12 team going to the Rose Bowl.
Oregon won the Pac championship last year. They were in the NC game. Which Pac team went to the Rose Bowl? That's right, none. I seem to recall that the Rose Bowl is obligated to take the highest ranked non-AQ team (if they're eligible) in the event that either conference champ goes to the NC game. That's why TCU went to the Rose Bowl last year and Stanford had to go to the Orange Bowl. It may never happen like Salty thinks it will.

Wait... I thought we were talking about Utah blowing chunks.

I don't think Whit is crying or making excuses for anything. His statement of: "we have had 7 or 8 season ending injuries to key players" is more of a factual statement than anything else.......

This is quickly turning into your 1984 moment.
Your right in that Utah has yet to beat a quality opponent this year (Pitt may be the biggest win to date this season) and you also may be right if U fans are still bringing it up a quarter of a century later.

Actually, you're wrong and I was right (I know, it's hard to believe).

Last year the Rose Bowl was required to take a non AQ (assuming one qualified for a BCS) because they had never taken one. TCU is the only non AQ to have ever played in the Rose Bowl (despite many Pac 12 teams playing in the national championship in years past). They are not required to do that anymore, and nobody expects them to.

See this ESPN prediction that doesn't even have a Pac 12 team in the championship game but still has 2 Pac 12 teams in BCS games (including the Rose Bowl):
https://espn.go.com/college-football/bowls/projections

And see this CBS prediction that does have a Pac 12 team in the championship and has another Pac 12 team in the Rose Bowl:
https://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions

The Rose Bowl was forced to take a non AQ once, because they knew there was no way the Rose Bowl would ever take a non AQ unless they were forced. They are no longer under that obligation and my point was correct (as the predictions clearly show).
