Game Thread Jun 08, 2021 08:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Clippers - Game 1

Added to Calendar: 06-08-21

I think you always should foul. Even if the guy you are fouling is a 100% free throw shooter.
If they make both free throws then you are still up 1 point with the ball and like 5 seconds left.
I prefer to be up by 1 rather than tied up which is what you risk by not fouling.

5 seconds is a lot. They will foul immediately, then call a timeout and have plenty of time to get off a shot. Without the remaining timeout, that changes a lot.

Who else is ****ing pumped after the game last night?

I'm looking forward to Fishonjazz's next chart showing how likely it is the Jazz win the finals, because I KNOW our chances went up substantially after last night.

That was the biggest win for the Jazz in a while. It was BIG.

I hope as a fan community we can enjoy this.

So much cringe from Greg. He contradicted himself more times than PG-13 made field goals.

He sucks... would rather have him than Marv and Reggie though. Ian is great... cousins picked up like his third foul and he hits him with a “he’ll have to boogie on the bench”.

Ian and Richard Jefferson should be the tandem. RJ is great... funny and insightful... they have great chemistry. It shouldn’t be this hard. I like harlen, Breen , Eagle... match them up with some likeable players... I doubt anyone would take the chance but Mart Barnes is pretty good on some of these shows.

It was a bit complicated. I think Gobert had 5 fouls, so he wouldn't be the person to foul. But the ball wasn't with his guy until about 5s left, right? Foul Rondo or choke artist PG13.

I'm glad that game didn't go into OT with Gobert having 5 fouls.

One low key possible mistake by ty Lue last night was when Donovan was on that big right to start the 3rd quarter and Donovan went to the hoop with that amazing double clutch almost dunk layup and ty quickly called a timeout. Donovan was laying on the ground in the crowd and the clippers had grabbed the ball out of the hoop quickly and were primed for a 5 on 4 possession if not for the timeout.

Losing this one would have been catastrophic in my mind... we had a big rest advantage... I think Mike would have to rush back if we lost. If we can get a win in game 2 without him we can buy him enough time to get close to 100%... I’m terrified that he comes back and hurts it worse and is done for the season.

I was thinking about this this morning. Don’t think I’m overreacting by saying this was our biggest win in over 14 years.

We will always have a shot to win any game because we have Donovan Mitchell. Look at this list! Look at his company.

So the last time we won more than one game in the semifinals was in 2008 against the Lakers when we lost in 6.

You couldn't foul Rondo IIRC, unless you did it quite early. He gave up the ball with 10s left. It was Kawhi, PG13 or Morris (who wasn't really an option, because he would most likely be able to get in shooting motion before he was fouled).

Karl had a rep as a playoff choker. Let's just tell it like it is.
He shrunk at times but the game was also different... the numbers are all a little inflated. Mailman's playoff numbers aren't hugely different than his regular season numbers. His shooting percentage dipped... choker is too strong.

I think Karl is like most players.. Don has risen to the moment which Karl didn't really seem to do.
