NBA Free Agents 2021

At last, a more pleasant topic lol

My pick would be Taurean Prince, Austin Rivers, Tucker, lonzo ball.

Out : bogey , mike 50/50

But I am not a coach

Just an early list of NBA Free Agents. We need to move pieces to be able to sign anyone, but its worth throwing on here:

There are a handful of guys I like in the prospect upside types like jarred Vanderbilt and Tyler Bey... then there are a lot of older guys I would go after with the taxpayer MLE... some wouldn’t get the whole amount... guys like Bazemore, harkless, Batum, Craig, bullock, to name a few. Some guys I like but think will be out of price range.

One guy I’d be thrilled to see is Rudy gay. Big wing getting it done still... great rebounder. Think he can be small ball 5 when we need it. Maybe manufacture some pts we need at times with his mid range game.

These are a few UFA that I would be nice. Some arent realistic with our money, but all players that could help us. We are going to have to make some trades though as well.
Spencer Dinwiddie, Evan Fournier, Taurean Prince, Josh Richardson, Kelly Oubre, Kent Bazemore, Batum, Caruso, Burks, Otto Porter Jr, Derozan

Crapologists... what options do we even have? Do we have the MLE?

Or is it just minimum contracts? Can we attract vets seeking a title after this seasons performance?

I like Lonzo Ball if Jazz can get him
Young tall PG who can get Rudy and Donovan the ball
Let DWade deal with his father

He's restricted and I'd assume NOP retain him but I'm surprised how open I'd be to Lonzo Ball. He'd allow Donovan to be the smallest guy in the lineup, he could take some ball handling pressure off, is bigger and could hit Rudy as mentioned, I think he's a decent defender as far as I know. His rebounding would be helpful. And, best of all, the LaVar side-show would actually be a welcome sight at this point.

I think the Pelicans would let him go. Weren’t they trying to trade him? I guess cause they have Alexander-Walker who they spent a 1st on (pick #17).

Lonzo Ball might be the realistic best case scenario here. Great defender who doesn’t need the ball to score. Having a great defender at PG and he is bigger than Donovan and Royce.

What's Thad Young's status.

I like a lot of those guys but they seem like they would be pricey.

I would like this.
Seems like his outside shot has a chance at coming around.

DeRozan is in play if we found takers for Bogey, Ingles and Clarkson.

Does that make us a better team?

I think we have the smaller taxpayer MLE which is like half of the full MLE (because I think we are in the luxury tax even if Conley walks, right?). I think Lonzo will command more than that, and I think we only consider using the taxpayer MLE if Conley walks. Otherwise it just pushes us further into the tax for a player that probably won't move the needle much.

I think we also have some trade exceptions. I don't recall the Jazz ever actually using a trade exception though. The only way to get Lonzo here is probably some sort of sign and trade scenario.

I would be okay if the Jazz tried to make moves to get under the tax line or minimize the tax. I don't think we have a roster worth going deep into the tax for, but I guess that is Smith's choice. I'd prefer we make the conscious choice to re-tool around Donovan even if it means getting worse for a few seasons, but that isn't going to happen under current leadership. We are just going to continue whiffing in the draft and keeping the current core together.

Paging @Handlogten's Heros

So because we messed up cap math we have smaller MLE?

I believe that is correct. However, if Conley comes back I think it is pretty unlikely we use either.

But yes, I believe it is correct that we would be able to better hedge against Conley leaving by having the full MLE if the morons had done some cap math right. Knowing who will be making the decisions this offseason just compounds the disappointment of our playoff exit.
