Another ****** thing about the Favs deal... if we had limited it to one year we could sign and trade Conley if that opportunity came up... because we’d likely have enough wiggle room to do so.

Basically we either pay to keep Mike or take a step back...

Clarkson is feast or famine though. And if he's on, great. If he's off, he provides nothing else.

But I do like him and he has a good contract. I just think his value is at an all time high. If we are going to add a high value perimeter defender, it will probably come from trading Clarkson.

Supposedly the Lakers are completely done when Kuzma. Although I do have some concerns about him, I think he is a buy-low candidate. It's hard to play with LeBron and sometimes guys shine in different environments after playing with LBJ.

Our roster is so incredibly old and we don't have many if any young players Don's age.

There are two ways I would consider it:

Kuzma for Favors and a 2nd

Favors saves LA a few million and is on a shorter deal. He gives them a decent bench big so they can concentrate on issues elsewhere on their roster.

Kuzma, #22 and 2nds for Bojan

I'm not as high on this one, but it could work well for both teams. I think Kuzma could do a lot of the things Bojan does currently. He's cheaper and rebounds better. Maybe we could package #22 and #30 to move up or get a proven player.

The thing about Kuzma is that if we rehab him, there’s a decent chance he’ll stay in Utah. He’s already chosen to live in Utah once.

His defense is the big question. He's been suspect at LA, but his role has also fluctuated so much in the LeBron and AD era.

Offensively, I think he would excel in our system. With LeBron, you wait and hope to get the ball. In our system, corner 3s (which is what our offense provides and what Kuzma excels at) would come his way on the regular.

He's only 25 and locked into a decent deal for a few years. If we can get him for Favors and 2nds, I think it's a no brainer. Buy low

I would take on Kuzma. He's young and can provide some offense and still create a shot - sounds like a decent recipe to me. He's at $13M per the next few seasons which is probably a bit pricey though considering needs.

His ceiling might be Clarkson-level which isn't a bad thing. I think the Lakers squandered his talent when they went all-in on LBJ/AD and removed the youth movement.

I think I prefer the Favs for DJJ deal with Portland that someone else pitched, if Portland will do it. We just have too much money committed to the C position, and DJJ is the type of player we badly need.

Then go get a small ball center with the Taxpayer MLE/vet minimum/summer league/trade and commit to developing Doke. I really do think Doke can be successful as a back-up center if he is given the opportunity. He is extremely athletic, strong, and has excellent hands. Unlike Bradley, there's no reason physically he shouldn't be playable.

Why isn’t we can’t do a sign and trade with Conley this off-season?

Edit: sorry, saw you answered this in another thread. I’m looking for the limits on this but not seeing it yet. I know the team that receives Conley must be under the apron, but am not seeing anything about the trading team being under.

Yes, on JRE. Has a single Villanova player drafted in the last 5 years been a bust? Bridges, Brunson, etc.

My critique is all that’s gonna be expensive if we bring back Conley.

I can't really see a financial situation that works to bring Conley back. In addition, Conley breaks down. In addition part 2, Conley and Mitchell together is just not enough size when you consider the rebounding quality of everyone else on the roster. The trade was bad, underachieved, move on before it gets badder.

I don’t think Smith is willing to go that deep into the tax to do it. Also, if not signing Conley gives us the full MLE at our disposal, I think it might be the right call not to bring him back. Still some money and flexibility in FA to improve the roster without going as far into the tax.

Maybe with some other moves we can even get under the tax.

If I’m the owner, I don’t go into the tax for this core, or at least not very far into it.
