It is worth pointing out that the Jazz are actually under the luxury tax, though for all intents and purposes we will definitely end up over it. Currently we are sitting 1.45m under the luxury tax right now. If we do not guarantee the contracts for Thomas or Oni we clear up another 3.5m under. Because we are over the cap our cap holds don’t count.
We could technically sign someone using the full MLE. However, we would then be hardcapped, which would make it very hard/impossible to field a 15 man roster. With the full MLE, we would have approx $142.8 in salary for 9 players, not including our draft pick, and the hard cap is projected at $143m.
If we hadn’t signed Favors last year we would have another 9.7m to work with, which definitely would help though because we are over the cap regardless would still have relegated us to finishing out the roster with a draft pick and multiple minimum contract guys.
I guess that is my way is saying we may be better off with the pieces we have. We can use the taxpayer MLE, the 5m trade exception from the Ed Davis trade, have a few tradeable contracts, including some non guaranteed contracts, and could possibly sign and trade Conley if he decided to leave.
I still wish we hadn’t done the player option at the end of the Favors contract and believe we could have gotten a better player with the MLE last year, but all things considered we do have options as long as we stay away from any hardcap scenarios.

Trade Rudy, draft Neemi Queta, end up with two very good rim protectors in Doke and Neemi for about 5 bucks instead of one for 40 million. Profit!

I do have to laugh a little, I said the player option on Donovan's contract should have gotten Lindsey and Zanick fired, and it should, it still should, along with several other moves. What should be starting a 5 years contract where you have 4 years to get things right, is now 2, or 3 at the most at this point. As I listen to local media the past week everyone from Locke, to Tony, to Checketts, to others are basically preparing you all for his exit at this point in about 2 years. I told you so. I told you so. You gave up a player option on a dude who had no intention of staying anyway, and now local media is starting to angle towards the preparing you all when he asks for a trade in a couple summers. The feeling and tone as far as Donovan goes has even began changing under local media at this point, and all I have to say is LOL.

If Don leaves, it's going to be because we don't make it his team. Not because he hates Utah and the people here. Not because he wants to be in NY that much. Not because you say so.
I think he might look to leave if we continue to build the franchise around Rudy while Rudy is throwing temper tantrums on the court and making comments in the media about how he isn't getting the ball enough or the team isn't doing this or doing that.
Don cares about his image maybe more than most. If we build the team around him, it's going to be that much harder for him to leave and retain his image. However if he's always sharing with Rudy, that's an easy out for him to say - I wanted to go to a team that let's him headline especially if we can't get over the 2nd round hump in the meantime.
Okay, you're wrong though. And yeah, Don cares about his image and brand and only his image and brand, not real people. He'll absolutely try to do it in a way that retains that image, because his image and brand which is all he cares about. He began building the excuses a year ago. I've said he's a snake, he's always been a snake, and everything he does is for the purpose of creating an image and brand that doesn't match the real dude. Looking back over his first 2 and a half years here, it's so blatantly obvious to see just how purposefully he did it, and now he's purposefully building exit excuses, and it's pretty obvious most even in local media are building towards it as well.

I would be willing to buy low on Justise Winslow. Seems like he's got a pretty decent over all skill set. Just something isn't right. Maybe we could fix him.
