Favors to OKC in works (Update: Traded)

Matt Thomas' deal isn't guaranteed anyway. I sure as **** would have drafted Petrusev with that #47 pick though. Think he's going to be at least as good as Frank Kaminsky.

Maybe the Jazz have other plans to acquire a skilled 4/5.
Matt Thomas contract is fully guaranteed, if not waived by August 3rd.

Love Favors the person, but it was a mistake to bring him back for anything more than the minimum.

I don’t think you can say that DL was anything more than an abject failure tbh.

The Jazz have spent a ridiculous amount of time, money and resources to find a starting PG (two 1sts for Burke, top 5 pick for Exum, 1st for Hill, 1st for Rubio, two 1sts + Crowder and Allen for Conley) and a backup C (1st for Bradley, 2nd to get rid of Bradley, two 2nds to get rid of Davis after signing him as a FA, 1st for Udoka, another 1st to get rid of Favors after signing him as a FA.)
That is so ****ing depressing.

What happens if Favors is on the roster and Gobert gets injured is that the Jazz lose a lot of games. The dude could barely handle 15 ****ing minutes, he wasn't saving anything.
His 15 minutes really showed too. He made the team massively worse.

Agreed. That was the exact scenario I was hoping for. Not sure how much picks were costing late in the round, but with him going undrafted I absolutely would’ve gone after a pick to get him. Start building up some young players and hope they break out.
This is really the thought process we need to have, start bringing in people for their possibly ceiling, not their floor. But we focus so much on the Niang-factor that we get tunnel vision.

But but but look at him, no one thought he was an NBA player but we taught him how to shoot. It's a feel-good story. Now he can have a million dollar career. Yeah he's completely unplayable in the playoffs because so many other players are reaching for their ceilings and he's barely getting out of the basement, but he tries hard. He's the "Rudy" (from the movies, not the Gobert) of the hardwood. Doesn't help us win playoff series but makes everyone go "aww look at him try hard".

Yeah the situation kind of sucks, but it's the result of signing Favors to a contract that was nearly double what he would have got on the open market. Bigs are cheap and Favors declined this year. He's a great guy and has some value as a player but when you're trying to contend and have to maximize every cent a small mistake turns into a massive one and it cost us a first round pick; but it's better than losing Ingles or Bogey imo.

A top-10 protected 1st and getting back the worst of four 2nd rounders just to dump a dude we didn't need to sign and didn't move the needle in the playoffs is... I don't have the words. I will never stop being amazed at how stupid signing him to that deal was.

Jazz might be really bad in three years. Like, they might have just blown up the team.

That is... really... bad.

Tristian Thompson + 2 future 2nd round picks just traded to Atlanta for Kris Dunn who was looking for a backup C while Okongwu recovers from shoulder surgery.

Favors is the same age, a better defender, on the same contract, and is actually from Atlanta. We could've done him a solid by sending him home to a good team while giving up less draft capital and acquiring a solid veteran PG in Dunn. The move would've also saved us $4M and filled a major need as Dunn is one of the best defensive PG in the NBA.

Another move that highlights the incompetence of our front office.

That would have been a good move.

I agree with everything you are saying here but Thompson has an expiring deal. Favors is a two year deal

Tristan only has one year on his deal and is less broken than Favs. Kris still makes 5M this year and not sure he's healthy. On the surface it looks bad for us... its not as bad as you think though.

Yep, Mason Plumlee averaged 10+9 on 8mil last year then got tossed to Charlotte along with #37 pick for pick #57.

Favors averaged 5+5 on 9mil... It tells you the state of market for backup centers nowadays. Anything beyond a vet min is basically an overpay.

Yet DL invested like 5 draft picks with 2 of those being first rounders + well over 40mil in cash and salary just for that position.

Damnit... Kangs traded Wright to get Thompson in the Atlanta Boston trade. They completed my fake trade where I sent Favs to Kangs for Wright... damn.
