Hoping so. May be a lull until we get into the heart of winter, but less cases are good news for everyone.

They’re now suing over the Biden vax or test mandate. Shouldn’t we be trying to end the pandemic? Instead, it seems like republicans are trying to prolong it to hurt Democrats in the midterms.

I’ve yet to see a single R governor actually have a plan. They hate the mandate and plead for vaccinations, but no path to get there. It’s pretty spineless.

They’re hypocrites who are only serving red meat to their voters.

We'll have to see how many more tricks SARS-CoV-2 has up its sleeve. Once a wave breaks, it doesn't seem to come back. The first wave was Wild Type, was intense for ~2 months and then broke. The second wave was UK-variant, was intense for ~2 months and then broke. This most recent third wave was Delta-variant, was intense for ~2 months and then broke. Wild Type was infectious, but UK-variant was more infectious, and Delta was the most infectious we know about.

The S-Spike protein isn't that big. There are only so many changes it can make and still attach to the ACE2 receptor. The number of people who have either been vaccinated or have been infected is shrinking the virus' pool of hosts. Much like in going from Wild Type to UK-variant, and again to Delta, the pathogen will have to mutate into something more transmissible or will have to mutate so much that our immune systems don't recognize it at all. It is tempting fate just to say it, but I'm not sure SARS-CoV-2 has that left in it.

We saw the same thing in India and the UK, but their numbers have continued to be higher than average from the pre- Delta period, just much lower than the Delta peak where our medical system could more easily handle it.

However, India and the UK both had their peaks in late spring/summer, with a trickle down during this same period where people spend less time indoors. We are having our peak at the end of Summer into fall, so with people spending more time indoors, I anticipate we will see a smaller decline, that will still trend down, just over a longer period.

Those who acquired immunity through infection might have antibodies that respond to parts of the virus other than the spike protein. I would think that means there is more leeway for them to get re-infected.
 
My brother in law still hasn't been able to get in for surgery or even any treatment for his neck. The pain has spread to his arm and he is in constant horrible pain. He has been trying to go through the VA because the pain is from when he was in combat in afghanistan and all the training excersises. (he was a marine).
The VA is supposed to cover all costs so they have been wanting to go through them but the pain is too much so they found a doctor who can see him in a couple days to at least give him an injection. Its already been a few weeks now.
His daughter (9 years old) is having anxiety issues worrying about her dads health too. Sucks. Apparently at her school they have a wellness room that kids can go to to cry if they need to and she has been visiting that room. Sad that a room like that is even needed.

My dad when through the same thing with his hip and got a cortisone injection. Then a spot opened up for surgery, but he couldn't have it because there is a time delay from a cortisone shot and surgery :/. He finally got surgery, but it took so long, he still has muscle weakness and pain. The pandemic has caused issues for most people in a number of different ways. Sorry about your BIL. The VA Spa as we call it (the patients wear slippers, so I assume it is a spa) is backed up more than anyone, and were even before the pandemic.
