Utah to pursue a S&T w/Chicago

"O'Connor did not indicate the Jazz were looking to receive anything more than a trade exception for Boozer. "You don't have to do that,'' O'Connor said of getting players or draft picks back from the Bulls although the Jazz would need to get something even if it is very minor such as the right to swap second-round picks. "Just get the trade exception. Why not? It would give you an asset.''

The Jazz will get salary-cap relief with Boozer's departure and more next summer when Kirilenko's $17.82 million comes off the books. But O'Connor said the Jazz plan to look for depth with the loss of Boozer and not just wait until next summer...He said the NBA salary cap going up to $58.044 million (about $2 million more than many projected) was not good for the Jazz.

"It hurts as a matter of fact because it gives other teams money,'' O'Connor said.

Unfortunately the data differs with you. Oh, and so does watching the games.

These following lineups all outscored the opposition when they were on the court last regular season:
Williams-Matthews-Miles-Millsap-Fesenko
Williams-Matthews-Miles-Boozer-Okur [Notice that PM and KF do just fine without 'em]
Williams-Miles-Kirilenko-Millsap-Fesenko
Williams-Matthews-Korver-Millsap-Fesenko (Swap in Hayward for Korver as an equivalent)

This one was one of the worst, yet it was one that was used among the most:
Williams-Matthews-Kirilenko-Boozer-Okur

That whole theory doesn't take into account who was on the floor for the other team...of course the DWill-Miles-AK-Sap-Fes lineup was good against other teams bench players

. . . except that I deliberately excluded lineups where the backup PG was in the game, which is typically when the other team's bench players are most likely to be in the game.

And Fesenko--even with limited offense--demonstrated in the playoffs how he can form part of a net positive lineup by reducing points in the paint. Given that Fesenko also proved in the playoffs that he could start taking on more minutes, it is not unreasonable that he will continue to improve just by the game experience. (Hopefully he supplements that natural improvement with off-court development and self-discipline, too.) And Millsap scored points at a faster rate during the playoffs than Boozer--quite often alongside Boozer, which means that the opposing lineup was the same. If he's able to do that against Odom or Bynum, great. Boozer should be able to do it against Gasol--or Utah shouldn't have played two PFs together.

AK (if healthy) can take Millsap's place as backup PF while also playing starter or backup SF.

In any case, I was providing data where you provided none. It would be nice if the data were adjusted for the opposing team's lineup, but just like the summer league is an incomplete indicator, so is this data (or pretty much any data). Still better than pulling opinions out of your arse, because the bigger statistic is that Utah was slightly better off when Boozer was off the court than when he was on, while Millsap did the opposite--quite possibly against a lineup that wasn't all starters, but Millsap played a lot of minutes alongside Boozer also. The starters need to outscore the starters, and the backups or mixed lineups need to outscore their opposition, also. The lineups containing Boozer did not. And two years ago, when Millsap was a starter, they did. I think that Millsap has learned to manage his minutes (and wear-and-tear) a bit better, as evidenced by a lower PF rate.

Just watch, Millsap will be game planned for and will be way less effective and will be a great example of Jason Maxiell or Craig Smith are great role/bench players because of their lack of size, and I really hope Paul proves me wrong but I am just scared going out there night in and night out with our starting power forward, in which this offense is focused around that position and point guard, Paul Millsap is barely as tall or little more tall than our teams shooting guards. Paul Millsap is only 6'7" at best! How can that not scare you?

Proof...check his measurements...

trade Gibson? because to get Boozer with the extra year and wouldn't have to give away such a big trade exception or draft picks.

If we can steal Taj Gibson away from the Bulls I hope he contends with Paul for the starting power forward, and if he beats him out I would love to see that of course then we trade Paul Millsap and sign Jeff Pendergraph and then now we have legitimate length at the 4 position and great defenders that can score and develop into stars in this league given the chance.

Then my dream is trade Millsap to Orlando for Marcin Gortat and trade our TPE from Matt Harpring to Portland for Joel Przybilla and let those two we just picked up in Gortat and Przybilla battle for the starting 5.

Gibson is really 6'9" and Pendergraph is 6'10" which is alot better then Millsap's 6'6". Not to forget we would add two legit 7 footers in Gortat and Przybilla. And not to just add length to add length but these player can actually play against the best in the league and did well in college or before the league.

Dream line-up

Williams/Price
Miles/Matthews
Kirilenko/Hayward
Gibson/Pendergraph/Koufos
Gortat/Przybilla/Okur

Gibson's deal doesn't expire for 3 more years, we could sign Pendergraph to a small contract for 4 or 5 years, Gortat's goes for 4 more, and Przybilla expires after this year and possible resign after Kirilenko expires also or Okur could come back more healthy.
Good joke man. Even if you say you weren't joking, I'm still going to pretend that you were.

I am SOOOOOO glad you brought this up, Dallon. I'm a step ahead of you. Kind of like Boozer being a step slow.

As shown by the very link that you provided, Millsap had a no-step vertical that was two inches higher than Boozer's when he was drafted, and a maximum vertical jump that was four inches higher. Although Boozer might have preserved some of his springiness over the years by not playing defense, his attempted ability to conserve his Boozer bounce is probably overshadowed by several long-term injuries that have put him 90+ games short of minimum 70-game seasons.

Perhaps these predraft measurements also help to explain why Utah drafted Paul Millsap in the first place--and why he is a better offensive rebounder and shotblocker (and defender overall).

It definitely goes a long way to explain why I don't think that Boozer will be missed as much as you and some other Boozer apologists (and, by extension, apologists of Sloan who let CB get away with the matador D for years) might think.

Any word on Lee? Is it possible to sign and trade Boozer to Chicago, Deng to New York, and have Lee come to Utah?

Not a chance. Lee wants to stay in NY and the Knicks have said repeatedly they want him back.
If LBJ does NOT go to NY - and it appears he is headed to Miami - Lee will re-sign with NY; they have the cap space for one more MAX player. So they could offer Lee $13M or so and still have $7M to spend on another quality FA.

We're not getting ANY players back from Chicago. Boozer isn't asking for the extra year, so there is no reason for Chicago to send us a player back. I'm fine w/ any PTE...
