The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Joker's retaliation wasn't cheap. What do you expect him to do, ask him to turn around and be a man? **** that, you turn your back after a cheap shot you're an idiot.
I mean Jokic said he shouldn't have done it. He could have shoved him rather than going full force with the shoulder. Morris shouldn't have put that much into his take foul but I don't think he was turning from some confrontation. Jokic's retaliation was super cheap but Bev only got 1 game for the CP shove I guess so there seems to be some consistency.

It was just a reaction but that kind how his other cheap shots have been... get frustrated... react.

I'm a fan of Jokers reaction. Morris' cheap shot could have injured him. Anything after that is game IMO. I love Joker even more now. I would expect anyone to retaliate, but especially an MVP. You don't cheap shot an MVP.

Is Morris injured?

I thought Jokic's reaction was too much and also didn't think Morris should have necessarily been ejected, until I saw the angle from the baseline cam. It appears about equal and Jokic's reaction looks somewhat reasonable.

Yeah that Morris shot could have broke a rib. I wonder why Morris did it. MVP's should be untouchable.

He was winding up to take a frustration foul. He was lucky all he did was graze his face. I brought a guys nose when the very tip of my elbow hit his nose in a game. It doesn’t take a whole lot.
Should the force be taken into account when all he got was ball, though? Cam Payne didn't miss time over that.

I agree Jokic is notorious with frustration fouls. He rarely starts ****, though. He just doesn't back down.

I just feel there would be real romanticization going on if he was from United States. ie James Johnson, Jae Crowder.

I don’t condone violence—but someone please tell me how much frustration they think is pent up, league-wide, when it comes to the Morris brothers. Plenty. That’s definitely a part of the story, I’d imagine, aside from Morris’s foul here being very unnecessary rough in a game that was out-of-reach.

He hit Cam in the face. It’s essentially the same play but Jokic happened to hit the ball. Could have easily missed ball with that type of wind up and force.

I actually think the opposite is happening. If it was one of the guys you mentioned I think “thug” talk starts up. I think because he’s the doughy white guy he gets a pass.

I thought Morris should have got a game and Jokic should have gotten 3. Both acts were reckless and I’m cool with going heavy handed on the penalty to make sure this stuff doesn’t keep happening. Can ruin a guy/teams season. If Morris gets a little more knee and Jokic gets hurt that murders their whole season. A fake fight where punches are thrown is penalized harder and has less potential for harm.

For sure. I think they were both involved with jumping a guy in the past… so maybe getting hit from behind like that was karma.

You're not a thug if you are ending a fight, you're a thug if you take someone out while they're not looking(excepted under the cheap-shot-turn-your-back clause). As much as I don't like Morris' cheap shot, if it were in a game 7 I'd maybe say Jokic should have protected himself if trying a half-court shot. In the context of the game, Morris deserved an injured shoulder.

He may have hit him in the face but then it wasn't strong enough. I agree that foul was a flagrant one for the recklessness of it. Jokic is the king of frustration fouls.

"Thug" talks come up around mostly white, racist groups which I haven't seen around much in the NBA, they are usually shut down pretty quickly even in the NBA twitter, at least the part I follow. So we may be seeing things from two different places. There is a ton of xenophobia and anti-semitism going around the NBA, though.

I think one game difference in suspension is fine, they were both vulnerable but Jokic's came after the whistle so I think it affects things a little. This whole, it was a take foul narrative by the Heat is laughable. I expected 3-4 game suspensions but the league set a terrible precedent with Beverley and Paul.

I will be glad if NBA tries to fix this fake tough culture out of the league.
