Trade deadline discussion

Honestly we just need to hold hands and pray that we sign Kris Dunn and he’s healthy…

We just need a Paul George or Lebron James type… that’s what I’d do anyway.

What's more likely to happen is that the Jazz trade Joe Ingles (or possibly Jordan Clarkson, but it's more likely Joe imo) for someone like Larry Nance Jr. or Kyle Kuzma. Maybe they can make a move for Jerami Grant.

This would be the first hurdle. The second would be utilization. I think Quin sticks to what he’s got. It’s like the old game show where you guess which door, among three, has the prize behind it, then when one is eliminated you have the opportunity to switch choices. Quin is insistent that he will keep his choice, as it’s the door that got him there. Another bad analogy is citing how 30 minutes a day on the treadmill will reduce your cardiovascular risk and then having a patient come in to the ED with chest pain and saying “let’s get him on a treadmill.” That is to say that I don’t have much faith in his application of moneyball.

The sad truth is I actually think the Jazz are not just one player away from being championship contending, but probably multiple players. The team is built for regular season success, but I think will be vulnerable in any playoff series with a team that can outplay the analytics by scoring at an above-average clip from the mid-range. As good as Conley and Mitchell can be together on the offensive end, I worry that back court will always be too small on defense. Having Bogey and Clarkson in the rotation is offensively potent but a total liability on defense.

Gobert gives us an unbelievably good "Option A" defense, but does limit what is possible for an "Option B". We essentially need perimeter defenders that are physically strong and agile enough to fight over screens and guard a player out in space. Finding that type of player who is not a liability on offense is a very tall order. The best case scenario is finding a diamond-in-the-rough prospect, but the Jazz haven't had much luck with their 2nd rounder/undrafted types lately.

It will be very hard to upgrade the defense without hurting the offense but I think they have to try. I don't want to be stuck in the "good but not great" world. I too am afraid of what Ainge might do, but am also not as protective of our current roster as others might be. While I admittedly let myself get excited last year when the team was cooking prior to the all-star break, I have always had a nagging sense that this roster is fundamentally flawed in its construction. If there is a move out there that can add size to our back court and athleticism to our wings I think we have to try, even if it means a major shakeup. In my mind, everyone but Donovan and Rudy are tradable.

The key to beating us is setting a screen. That’s it. That’s the secret.

The Jazz are like the Chris Paul/James Harden/Eric Gordon Houston Rockets. The problem is that we don't have our Trevor Ariza and PJ Tucker. Eh, or maybe Royce O'Neal is a bit like PJ Tucker.

Here is a paragraph from Tony Jones article about the Danny Ainge hiring, idiot.

"The Jazz currently resemble a much more robust version of those Celtics, with veteran depth players who know their roles and how to fit together. It seems the bigger questions are whether they can keep the other key scorers around Donovan Mitchell healthy in the spring and if they can find a way to keep Rudy Gobert in the driver’s seat against playoff scheming. If the Jazz fall short of the conference finals for the sixth year of legitimate contention in a row, Ainge won’t be afraid to finally move Gobert or consolidate Utah’s depth for a more potent three-level playmaker."
Your still an idiot
