Back Issues

Had surgery on my umbilical hernia yesterday. Had had it for 6-7 years. Maybe more. But after exhausting most efforts, and doing some research, I contacted a surgeon. He said it was definitely surgery-worthy and could be exacerbating my back pain.

I’m pretty sore from the surgery. Nothing too bad though. Walking around the house fairly often to stay active. Doing some deep breathing. Hopefully this takes and helps.
I'm really interested in this. I have an umbilical/inguinal hernia, and have had for many years now. I'm getting tired of the "sore" and am considering getting it done. I don't have major back pain issues, but twinges now and again are present.
What was your weight at time of surgery? I'm certain I probably have at least a Benjamin on you, maybe a lot more, but I'm still curious as to where you're at.
Did they do a mesh liner?

My upper back and neck are a mess, with 3 plates and like 18 screws holding it all together, with a bone graft from my hip. Going on 20 years ago now for my surgeries. Chronic pain at a varying level, mostly a 5-7 on the 1-10 pain scale doctors typically use, although for the last year I have been more in the 6-8 range or higher at times. It really does change with the weather, like your old uncle's trick knee, due to your body adapting to changes in barometric pressure but the metal doesn't so it causes strain, at least that is what I understand. I have numbness down my left arm, all the way to my pinky and ring finger on my left hand, as they had to sacrifice the ulnar nerve in my surgeries, and this sometimes also causes itching, a crawling feeling in my arm under the skin, and phantom pain. I deal with it with a combination of hot baths/showers, trying to keep my back and shoulders strong, and percocet or lortab, whichever the state of California will allow someone to take for chronic pain without sending in the opioid police because it must obviously be an addict since there is no such thing as chronic pain apparently. I have had cortisone and other shots over the years, with little effect. I have tried various physical therapies, but they are usually not worth the time or money. There is no other surgery I can do. I am stuck with what I got. Although I do need to go in for an MRI as I had an experience a while back where I lost complete control of my left arm and had severe shooting pain radiating into my head and down my arm and back, and the doctors have no idea what might have happened in there. But good luck getting into a MRI test in California during COVID when I require one where I can be sedated. But they told me at my original surgery there is a decent chance I will completely lose the use of my left hand one day. I sure hope that day never comes.

Good luck @Wes Mantooth , I hope it gets better for you as you get stronger post-surgery.

I’m 6’2”, 205. I honestly don’t know if he used mesh. I asked the nurse afterward but she wasn’t sure and dude was already onto his next procedure. I’ll find out during my appt in four weeks.

I have another back/hip surgery scheduled for next Thursday, April 28th. Tbh, I'm not sure if it's considered back, hip or something else surgery.

I'm having my SI Joint fused. :/

At this point, I'm not surprised. I'm just tired of all these surgeries.

This is the one that scares me the most though. I fear it's gonna mess me up the most and permanently disable me.

I gotta figure and plan things out for next week cause I'm flying solo. I got this.

I hope it solves my problem/problems. Pretty miserable but bearable to live with. Either they're gonna fix it or make it worse.

Should be interesting.

That really sucks, sorry to hear that. I hope you recover fast.

Good luck. Hope it goes well. Back stuff sucks.

I started wearing shoes in the house. Bought brand new ones and they’ll be for inside only. Slippers offer no ****ing support. It seems to have helped quite a bit. We only have hardwoods and tile too so walking barefoot or with slippers is no bueno.
