Trade deadline discussion

We ain't getting Simmons for a bunch of reasons... unless you want to trade Donovan for him.
We’re halfway through a season and Simmons hasn’t played. They aren’t getting anything near Donovan level for him. Now, they may want that and may want equal value back, but they aren’t getting it. Adding Conley and JC to their team currently is pure addition. I know that’s also not a completely fair way to look at it, but whenever Simmons gets traded I think the total value they get back is maybe around the same value of that package. Maybe someone gives them some potential value with future assets or a young guy (they won’t be getting back any sure bets on young guys), but they’ve got Embiid now and they’re trying to be competitive now.

I agree they wouldn’t do it, but I don’t think they’re getting much more than that, so they end up continuing with their status quo: nothing.

IMO, the most likely scenario is that the Jazz offer Ingles, a conditional FRP and a young player (e.g., Butler, Hughes, Dok) for a player in the $13M salary range:
-- Christian Wood
-- Josh Hart
-- Kyle Kuzma
-- maybe a package with Josh Richardson, but I'm not sure that moves the needle

This. If they were going to get equal or higher value for Simmons it would have happened by now. We are far enough along for teams to know what they have and what they need and what they are willing to give up. He will not go for a premium at this point. Equal salary and modest performance replacement is the best they can realistically hope for imo.

If they decide to trade him for 75 cents on the dollar they will get a package with picks that they can hopefully flip for the star later. So they get some guys like CJ McCollum and 1sts. Or they go with the Atlanta package that gives a few pieces with young guys and picks they can hopefully use in a trade in the offseason.

If Clips are selling I'd be looking hard at Ibaka, Batum, Morris (maybe depends on price). I don't think the price tag on Ibaka and Batum would be super high so we likely have the goods... depending on if they like Butler.

Find a team that will give an expiring and a second for JC... send the expiring and seconds with Butler to the clips... stretch 5 that protects the rim... and Batum who is having a bad year thus far but maybe finds the magic again.

JC and Conley may be 60 cents on the dollar. I think any player/picks package will be maybe 65 cents on the dollar. I think we need to start getting our name in these Simmons rumors. Not because we’ll get him, but because our defense has been so bad that I think the team needs to hear that we’re trying to make trades to bring in a huge douche.

I’d be curious about Ibaka. I’d be more curious if he were bought out. Not sure how much you can rely on his health. He does fit in the TPE in the unlikely event that you’re able to do a second multi-team move where we send out a whole bunch of salary that we don’t take back.

I think JC, Conley and a 1st should interest Philly. Probably not get it done, but should be of interest.

From what I can tell, most fans of other teams view JC as a negative asset because of his bad defense and inconsistent offense. I don’t think Conley has as much value as you’d think.

Anyone that thinks the Jazz even come close to having a package that Philly would want for Simmons is severely mistaken. Whether they want another all-star level player or a package of assets, Philly has better options for both. It absolutely is not happening. Even if it did, he’s a Klutch player, he’d start trying to force his way out next year, he’s not going to settle for Utah. His agent won’t let him.
