Trade deadline discussion

On your 1st point: ouch. Might be true.

On your 2nd point: probably true. It kinda feels like Gobert's value right now is higher than I ever remember since people are seeing what the Jazz are without him. Still, feels correct.

Gobert’s value isn’t the same as Mitchell’s we can agree to that the type of package we’d get for Mitchell would be easier to put a contender around Gobert vs around Mitchell with the package we get for Gobert.

Let’s say we did trade Gobert for Brown which is about best case scenario in a Rudy deal.

Conley/Mitchell/Brown is solid but we’d still be very bad defensively. We’d need to move Bogey for a defender. It’s hard to tell how good that team is but it definitely makes the playoffs.

Can Jaylen Brown be an entire defense by himself and set screens that spring the whole offense?

The Jazz don't need to fall to the 9th seed, they just need to be in the 7th, which they are as close to as they are seeds above them. If they have a completely insolvent defense, I'm not sure how Jaylen Brown makes up for that such that they make it out of the play-in (what would be the point there anyway?).
If you trade Rudy, you are basically trading everyone. Meaning everyone except for maybe Donovan is on the table. Then we wouldn't have to ask Jaylen to be an entire defense by himself because we will be getting more defensive pieces back. If we get perimeter defenders and wing defenders like Smart, Richardson, Grant or Roco to reinforce Jaylen, we will become a much better team defensively than this current "funneling everything to Rudy" ********

That Sacramento deal for Gobert is ****ing awful. Two really meh players and ONE FRP?!?

We could do MUCH better than that for Rudy, and if we couldn’t, yeah, definitely trade Mitchell.

I’d love to hear what you think we could get. His contract and age will become a problem.

Outside of Jazz fans other fans and media still don’t understand the value of Rudy so his trade value isn’t as high as people think. Yes we suck without him but so would any team missing an all-star player. That’s the perception.

Lots of not great quotes from Windhorse’s pod…

Nothing new on Rudy Donovan drama but get ready for another round of that ********.

“Ainge is a full time shot caller and a part time employee”

“This franchise takes every opportunity to kiss Donovan’s ***”

“With Ainge around guys are looking over their shoulder”

Basically Ryan is ****ing this up. He really should have waited to do the Ainge thing until the offseason. We hey are going to end up pandering too much to Donovan rather than asking him to do better. It’s going to cause all kinds of issues between the two stars… those guys won’t have each other’s back. We then move Rudy this offseason and in a year Donovan asks out because we aren’t that good.

Don’t trade anymore picks… the vibes are too bad too double down on our ****.

This just really sucks for Rudy. He's given everything he has to this franchise...went from playing in the G league his first season to being a 4-time all-NBA center, 3 time all-star and defensive player of the year by absolutely working his *** off. Signed an extension here when he could've been an unrestricted free agent and went to a bigger market. Has stated multiple times that he wants to win a championship here in Utah. And we're going to reward his loyalty by trading him away.

Anyone that assumes he will is delusional.
He actually might. A lot of guys are hanging around to get the extra money before asking out. Beal and Dame are both waiting for that big extension before changing their mind. Supermax is only available here.

He may immediately ask out… but it’s not out of the question. I will say there is no way he stays his whole career here.

I actually don't think it will. I think he's gonna be catching hate for stonewalling fools for years to come. But in terms of perceived value, it might.

To be clear, I am just saying we should be planning to maximize the time he's under contract right now and see where we are in a few years (assuming this doesn't absolutely implode before then).

I’m completely just talking perceived value from other teams. If we keep him it really won’t be bad for us.

How interested would we be in a Mitchell for Zion swap? We send out Clarkson too and take back Hart and Satoransky.

It is a very unfortunate end if it does happen this way. At the end of the day, both guys are to blame for this relationship breaking down.

In 20-30 years, we will hear from guys like Joe, Royce, JC or whoever about what really went down between these two over time. I'm sure both of them will have their sides of the story.

I can understand some mental exercise regarding Gobert hypothetical trades... but it blows my mind why on earth would the Jazz even think on trading Mitchell unless the guy asked to be traded.

Our best chance at contending is to not trade either. We need to move some combination of Ingles/Clarkson/picks for Jerami Grant or Marcus Smart or Harrison Barnes.

I was listening to Chad Ford's podcast the other day and Jake Fisher was his guest and he said he's been told it's not a coincidence that guys like Joe and Bogey have been in trade rumors and Donovan's best friend Royce O'Neale hasn't been in any. I'm sure it's also not a coincidence that we traded for Eric Paschall, who was one of Donovan's best friends growing up. Yet we had no problem getting rid of Neto even though he was Rudy's best friend on the team.
