Trade deadline discussion

There are so many solid moves out there to make we HAVE to make one.

Absorb Kenrich Williams into our trade exception in exchange for making the first we owe OKC unprotected.

Then trade Ingles/Clarkson/2026 1st for Harrison Barnes.

Or we can trade Ingles/Clarkson/2026 1st/2028 1st for Jerami Grant.

How about Ingles/Clarkson/2026 1st for Marcus Smart and Josh Richardson.

Maybe Ingles/Butler/2026 1st for Marcus Morris.

Hell maybe even some kind of combination of the trades above or move Clarkson to New Orleans for a pick that we move for Covington?

So so so many opportunities out there.

Here’s where my prediction is leaning for this deadline:

We end up trading Bojan and someone to another team for something. We talk about this for about two days and then the trade gets nullified after Bogey’s physical and his finger and he and whoever we traded with him return to the team a la Greg Foster and Chris Morris.

It will be a banger start to the Danny Ainge era.
Too soon brah

If the Jazz could get Jerami Grant and Josh Richardson, they'd be really solid. Jazz would have to be willing to move Ingles, O'Neale, Clarkson, 2 FRPs, and maybe Bogdanovic.

Almost certainly Bogdanovic (to get a pick to send and free up possessions for Grant), and hopefully not Royce.

I think Ingles into OKC’s space and getting Kenny for lifting the protections is a wildly superior deal than going after Richards, but you could maybe do both. I’m mostly interested in Richardson because he’s not Clarkson but would hope to do better.

Ainge gonna land us M&M and Kenny Loggins.

At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

My player rankings for guys we are rumored to like (I'm not including guys like Collins, Simmons, Williams or others who have not been reported at this time):

Grant
Barnes
Smart
Richardson
Morris
Covington

I don't think we should give up two first rounders in any of these deals.

Regarding the Marcus Morris speculation:

Can anyone explain to me the incentive the Clippers might have to make a trade? I can't quite figure one out. They're way over the tax, but they want to be in a good spot to do well again next year. Morris is pretty important for that. I don't see them to be desperate to lessen their tax burden. So even if we could offer them a trade that would lessen their tax burden this year (and I don't think we can in any substantial way), it's hard for me to see why they would be interested in getting rid of Morris's contract long term.

I also don't think we have anyone that could provide them a better roster fit than Morris that we'd be willing to trade.

What goes for the Clippers' lack of incentive to trade Morris also goes for Batum; with the exception that Batum has a player option next year. But unless they have clear info that he doesn't want to be there next year, why would they think about trading him? A nice first-round pick? Maybe; but who's giving them that?

(Personally, if they were available, I'd prefer Batum, unless we lost significant offensive firepower through other moves.)

Interesting take.

I still hold firm that I would love to get John Collins. If we are truly thinking about throwing a 1st out there for Morris or Barnes, I wish we would consider Collins instead.

We know we need a true stretch 5 option at times in the playoffs, and we need to do better rebounding. While he doesn't solve our issue defending scoring guards, he does address some issues.

Lots of not great quotes from Windhorse’s pod…

Nothing new on Rudy Donovan drama but get ready for another round of that ********.

“Ainge is a full time shot caller and a part time employee”

“This franchise takes every opportunity to kiss Donovan’s ***”

“With Ainge around guys are looking over their shoulder”

Basically Ryan is ****ing this up. He really should have waited to do the Ainge thing until the offseason. We hey are going to end up pandering too much to Donovan rather than asking him to do better. It’s going to cause all kinds of issues between the two stars… those guys won’t have each other’s back. We then move Rudy this offseason and in a year Donovan asks out because we aren’t that good.

Don’t trade anymore picks… the vibes are too bad too double down on our ****.

Superficially it doesn’t make sense to me. His name has consistently been out there, not that that necessarily means anything, and it’s tough for me to understand what they’d be looking for in return. In any case, I think if the statement is out there that Ainge is targeting someone that no other Jazz FO would have, that it’s gotta be Morris, independent of whether or not he’s really pursuable.

Nah, once you’re a billionaire and can buy your way into the business, you don’t make those kind of mistakes. If it looks bad, it’s only because we’re being shrewd. Respect the expertise.

I get the feeling he is not a great locker room guy, and those guys seem to always be on the block even if they are performing well, just because they don't mesh with the team.

This is actually a great example of what happens if one of us ends up in a position to actually make these decisions without any real expertise in doing so other than our years and years of running the point from our couch. I am sure from watching lots of games, playing on Saturday mornings at the church with the elder's quorum, and playing golf with Wade and his other retired NBA buddies, Ryan is now incredibly knowledgeable of the game and all the intricacies of an NBA FO and managing pro team dynamics.
