I'm listening to Ty on 1320 right now.
Nothing ground breaking so far. Said Sap is a natural 4 but there are times they think they will be able to use him at 3.
Excited to have two extra days to get ready for the season.
I don't understand why people think there will be a log jam at the 4-5 for us. I'd say Kanter is highly unlikely to be ready for serious minutes until, at earliest, mid-season. Realistically he probably hardly plays this season. Burks might get a little more time, but probably not all that much. Next year we might have a glut. Right now I'd say we have Big Al, Sap, Favors & Memo at the 4-5 with a little Elson thrown in for when one of these guys gets too tired from the intense season. Big Al, Sap, Favors and Memo can all play both positions depending on match-ups and Sap can play a little 3. If Kanter comes in and pushes any of these guys, so much the better, but I wouldn't count on him doing much outside of learning this year.

I also don't think we have a log jam THIS season. I'm on the side that thinks Kanter isnt going to do much this season and that we can't rely on him for anything. That leaves Memo and AJ at center, and Favors and Sap at pf. What happens if even one of them goes down and one of them will eventually go down at some point? We have no idea how memo is going to do coming off that injury. Sure he has been good in europe but that game isnt the NBA.
Plus all these big minute guys are going to average a lot less minutes per game this season based on the condensed schedule. They are also more likely to get injured. So I think there is a HUGE benefit to having as many bigs as we do this year considering the uniqueness of this season.
GlassEater: Millsap playing 30 mins at SF was the only way to resolve the PT issue (well, outside of a trade).
Not true
any links to listen?
So 96 combined mins at the 4/5. Jefferson and Millsap each averaged 35 mins last season; Favors averaged 20. That's 90 right there if NOTHING else changes.
1. Do you want Favors to only get 20 mins again?
2. Do you think Millsap and Jefferson would agree to cut their minutes down to 25 each?
3. Will Okur play 0 games?
4. Should we just "Sloan" Kanter and keep him on the bench or in the D-League and expect he'll develop into a starter with no NBA game experience?
Of course there are injuries. There will likely be DNP's by a few of the bigs which will free up some time. But on a regular basis, if Millsap does NOT play the 3, then Paul, Al and Derrick could be expected to eat up all the time at 4/5. Not playing Memo is no big deal. But Kanter, however inexperienced, needs to get 10-15 mins/per to speed up his development. He needs to play against other backup bigs in the NBA, not the undersized or unathletic scrubs in the D-League.
#4 sounds like suggesting that "varsity" (not D-league) on-court experience is necessary for player development (a fundamental concept that Sloan selectively ignored). Quite a concept. So 96 combined mins at the 4/5. Jefferson and Millsap each averaged 35 mins last season; Favors averaged 20. That's 90 right there if NOTHING else changes.

+1 for pointing out that a bare minimum for a young player is around 10 MPG on a regular basis.Of course there are injuries. I'm not sure if it's this interview, but I heard a small bit from Ty today where he confirmed that there would be changes on defense. He repeated himself, so it sounds like it will be more than a tweak. Long time coming................

Corbin's unwillingness or unawareness about the notion of sharing and implementing that basic principle on the radio is a bit concerning. We're not even talking about a second-round Ukranian with an iffy off-court record; we're talking about a #3 draft pick (as well as a pick in the teens that can be another solution at SG).
