2022 NBA Draft Thread: We Going to Have a Pick! (lmao jk)

There are a lot of guards and wings in this draft, but many of them have real holes or question marks:
-- Jeremy Sochan is a versatile and disruptive defender, but his scoring is a question.
-- Nikola Jovic could be the Serbian version of Gordon Hayward, but he lacks the ability to get separation and struggles finishing at the rim.
-- Jaden Hardy is supposed to a natural scorer, but he struggled shooting the ball from 3pt in the G-league.
-- Patrick Baldwin was a top-5 recruit, but he had just an awful freshman year.
-- Bryce McGowans has an NBA body, but was just terribly inefficient last year. Maybe he's a project like BJ Boston.

Top half of the 1st round is strong, but I think a bunch of the late-1st and 2nd-rd prospects are going to pull out of the draft.

TJ threw out in his podcast a "hypothetical" with the Hornets where we get 13, 15, Hayward, Washington and maybe another pick in the future. Seemed like a lot but coming away with 2 of Daniels, Sochan, Williams, Eason, Branham, Griffin would be dope.

Jaden Hardy is a 6'4" scoring combo-guard in the mold of a Jordan Clarkson or D'Angelo Russell. He didn't shoot well from distance in the G-league, but given how young he is and his FT shooting it's fair to believe his shooting will come around. He isn't super explosive, but he's skilled and able to create for himself in isolation. He'd be a decent pick in the 20s, much like Cam Thomas last year.

If Jalen Duren were on the board at #13, I might be willing to do that. I believe in Duren. Otherwise, #13 feels a bit low in this draft. Griffin and Eason should be gone by #13. I would be tempted by Ousmane Dieng in that range.

How about Duren and Eason at 13 and 15? nbadraft.net has them in the range. Very defense oriented center and 3D player which we have missed. How do you feel about Duren’s offense outside the paint?

I think Eason is going to rise and go safely in the top 10. He's like Scottie Barnes and Patrick Williams in terms of how he's going to appeal to teams in the draft process.

As much as I don't want to trade Rudy, I'm still super intrigued by Chet. If there's a team sitting there at #2 that doesn't love him and wants to compete right away, I'd trade Rudy for him. It's unlikely, but there were teams who didn't love Luka either.

Malaki Branham is a 19 year-old 2-guard who has a solid three-level scoring potential and some playmaking ability. He's a solid athlete, not really explosive, but has good size, length and feel, and he's one of the best shooters in the draft (50/42/83 splits). He isn't developed defensively yet, but offensively he can space the floor and work around defenses with some secondary creation. He'd be a good pick in the mid-1st round and onward. He reminds me a little of Norm Powell, or a slightly better version of Gary Trent Jr.

He’s one I like.

Hey, the 6'7" big guard/wing with ball skills I've been looking for could be Dyson Daniels. He's just turned 19 years-old, and he's reportedly close to 6'8" now. He has really good in-game athleticism and defensive instincts, especially on the perimeter. He rebounds well for his size, can push the ball, and has the ability to make reads at full speed. He also has potential as a 3-level scorer with floaters and rim finishes. He could be a tremendously valuable player. I'd take him ahead of Mathurin and probably Keegan Murray too.

Keep in mind, he's doing this as an 18 year-old...

I love him… could be the perfect guy to pair with Donovan if he stays… if not he provides so much flexibility

He's going to be a Gordon Hayward-sized point guard who plays defense and has plus-athleticism. I like him more than the Australian kid Giddey from last year.

Stars won that game with Elijah Hughes and Malik Fitts playing for the Stars.

This is one of the few players I've followed all year and have developed thoughts about.

Just too smooth offensively to fail with good size. I doubt he measures out great with wingspan or anything, but high quick release and can do a bit of everything on offensively. Kind of like some Kevin Huerter types vibes.

I think he's a late first type quality player. Sam Vecenie use to be high on him, had him at 34th overall at one point, but he dropped him down to 50 in his latest big board. He had kind of a weak end to the season.

End of the day he is a potential motion shooter with size. Those don't grow on trees.

I know you've bagged a few Asian girls in your lifetime. My man! You got mad love for the Asian community, especially Asian professional basketball players.

I have to ask why you was never high on us getting Jeremy Lin though..

I can't figure out AJ Griffin, or why I don't like him. He's obviously a good prospect. If his athleticism returns, then he's like Justise Winslow with a knock-down jumper.

So not only was the Udoka Azubuike pick a swing and a miss, Elijah Hughes didn't really pan out either. So the Jazz went 0-fer in the 2020 draft. None of Juwan Morgan, Jarrell Brantley, Rayjon Tucker, Miye Oni or Justin Wright-Foreman worked out either. The one guy with potential was Malik Fitts, and he's now on the Celtics. I guess Trent Forrest is rotational, if we don't mind his 22% 3pt shooting.

Also, the pick the Jazz wasted on sharp shooter Matt Thomas probably could have been used on Jared Butler last year, allowing the Jazz's other pick to be used on a guy like Herbert Jones.

Maybe it's time to admit that the Jazz have sucked at drafting for the most part.
