2022 NBA Draft Thread: We Going to Have a Pick! (lmao jk)

Impact Players in the Draft Who Could Help the Jazz:
1) Jabari Smith - a more fluid, better-shooting, more perimeter oriented Jaren Jackson, Jr. Franchise talent.
2) Jaden Ivey - hybrid of John Wall and Anthony Edwards. Impossible to guard.
3) Chet Holmgren - better version of Porzingis and Poku, but probably still a 2nd-option type.
4) Paolo Banchero - I have some doubts about him, but he's an offensive player that teams can play through.
5) Shaeden Sharpe - Game-changing athlete, like a bigger Jalen Green.
6) Tari Eason - Rugged defender like a James Johnson, but with three-level offensive potential.
7) Dyson Daniels - The Australian, lead-guard version of Gordon Hayward.
8) Jalen Duren - The next Bam Adebayo, a two-way athletic big with some passing and mid-range touch.
9) Keegan Murray - Solid complementary scorer to replace Bogdanovic. Slightly better version of today's Harrison Barnes.
10) Benedict Mathurin - Prototypical 3D wing.
11) Jaden Hardy - A more athletic D'Angelo Russell. Instinctive scorer and self-creator.
12) AJ Griffin - He needs his athleticism back. If it happens, then look out. If not, then not sure.
13) Ousmane Dieng - Complementary 3D wing with length, a la Nic Batum.
14) Mark Williams - Solid rim runner and paint protector.
15) Wendell Moore - Younger with more upside than Agbaji.
16) Jeremy Sochan - Defensive disruptor. Maybe he'll learn to shoot well enough like DFS did.
17) Malaki Branham - Knock-down shooter with limited self-creation. Think Norm Powell or Gary Trent Jr.
18) TyTy Washington - He's as good a prospect as Cole Anthony and Tyrese Maxey were entering the draft. Yes, he's a bit small.
19) EJ Liddell - Versatile like Grant Williams, but with better passing and more game off the bounce.
20) Nikola Jovic - A project who needs to improve his athleticism, but too much offensive upside at 18 y.o. to pass up on.
21) Leonard Miller - A young, raw project with upside who should at least be able to defend a la Jaden McDaniels.
22) Marjon Beauchamp/Kendall Brown/Jalen Williams -- Pick your favorite.
23) Dalen Terry - Justin Holiday/Jeremy Lamb-type 3D guard...if he shoots well.

Edit: Johnny Davis should be in here somewhere. As always, the question is what kind of shooter he's going to be. People compare him to Devin Booker in some ways, but he's older as a prospect and at least a tier below Booker's shooting at UK.

Jazz should be looking to trade Bogdanovic and Conley. They should be willing to include Hernangomez and Royce if the return is solid enough. They should be willing to trade Rudy opportunistically if they can get a team to reach for him and offer a haul.

Guys with legit All Star potential in this draft: Smith, Ivey, Holmgren, Banchero, Sharpe, Eason, Daniels, Duren, Mathurin...
Guys with fringe All Star potential in this draft: Murray, Griffin, Hardy, Miller.

This is a strong draft.

He looks very passive to me. On paper he has a lot of things you like... wing with good size, shooting, some ballhandling, some athleticism and defensive potential... but when I watch him I'm left wanting more almost always. Every time I watch him, I feel like he's coasting, like he's not trying to impact the game but rather letting the game impact him. There are a lot of players I think I would rather have than him in that range of the draft.
 
Been thinking about that IND pick a lot. IND broke their streak of never tanking this season, but it didn't seem like they necessarily did so by choice. They weren't as good as they had hoped to be. You don't hire Carlise to be your coach and tank for a long period of time. Now that they have Haliburton, I think they would love to have Gobert and try to secure their playoff future for awhile. That's how the franchise likes to operate.

Who would you guys take at #5/#6. Seems to be a top4 everyone is settled on, after that it's a crapshoot. Sharpe? Davis? Mathurin? Duren? I have no idea.

During the season... really early... they just said "yeah we are out" it was kind of weird, but it was positioned exactly as you said... "We will tank one year and be back". If they don't go top 4 I could see them taking rudy for #5/#6 and Turner (since he can't stay healthy) and maybe Brogdon... maybe we send them Bojan back as well. They are under the cap... I think they look to move Brogdon.

At 5/6 I think for me... I like the idea of Sharpe and there is enough there that its a decent gamble. The comps on the high end are Small Paul George or Tall Bradley Beal. He's a huge swing and I could see everyone saying after his rookie year he should have been the number 1 pick... or he wouldn't have been in the lotto had he played at Kentucky.

Dyson Daniels is the other guy I like there. He reminds me of Haliburton a little actually. I think he can be good on/off the ball, the defense and IQ seem good. The shot looks a little slow but solid form. He played G League so he's 12 months ahead in adjusting to a deeper line.

The rest I don't have a huge opinion about but like many of them. Griffin scares me most in that group but the idea of a two-way wing is obviously tantalizing.

I think they'll look to move Brogdon as well...but I'm unsure of what for. I don't think their priority is tank or to clear cap space. They seem like a team that wants players on long term deals and you would think that Brogdon would fit into that.

If what we suspect is true and Don wants Gobert out, I think IND has high probability. There are still some people out there that think Myles Turner is Gobert who can shoot 3's....Don might be one of those guys.

Mike is also an IND guy and IND is the type of org that would want him because he's an IND guy. Could see Conley being added in for Hield.
 
I have to admit. I am kind of excited about the prospect of having some new players to watch and to see how different pieces might fit on our team. I can't logically get to the point where we definitely get better by making any moves, but that's ok, it will be fun to see something new.

I think Malcolm is a bit of an issue in the locker room. There have been whispers around him for a long time... so they may not want to be in that business now that they have Tyrese and Duarte has some juice on ball too.

They may never think Turner will be healthy in a reliable way so I could see Rudy as appealing there. I would think they try to retain #6 to build around Tyrese but Carlisle is not the best coach for young players... So they might be more likely to do a Rudy trade if the meat was Turner/Malcom for Gobert and Conley (and Ryan saves so much money) vs. giving up that pick... but who knows.

If they have the space to take Conley and Gobert I could definitely see that happening. I think Turner is for sure getting traded on way or another. Turner has already voiced his unhappiness, so even if IND likes him, they've got to worry that he walks away for nothing. Gobert provides a ton of security for them with his long term deal.

There's also been rumors about Carlise taking power in the FO....if it was his choice he'd definitely trade #6. RC denied the rumors, but if the rumors existed to begin with I think it's fair to say he has more influence than a normal head coach.

They have like $30M in space... so this deal is totally workable. Would save us $20M on the cap. I think we'd have to give up something to get #6 thrown in but I would say that Pacers/Carlisle aren't married to keeping it.

Haliburton Rudy pick and roll could be something pretty devastating on offense too since Tyrese can see over the defense a bit better.
