Stupid Pet Peeves

I have managed to never have back issues.

Last 5 days... back issues.

FML
I’m having shoulder issues right now. Apparently my collar bone has a big growth on it. Dr says it will need surgery, but doesn’t want to until I can’t stand the pain anymore. I’m like, dude, I’m here because the pain got to be too much. He says try to not use it for a while and see how it feels. I’m an electrician. Like 100% of my job is using my arms above my head, away from my body, or pulling ****. If I weren’t so slammed at work right now, I would push for surgery immediately.

Yeah that's why I know nihilism is the best. You'll know too when you grow up.

I dont want to search for the reverse pet peeve’s thread.

My work hired full time physical therapists. They fixed an issue with my left shoulder and my right trapezoid and tennis elbow in my right forearm.

Would have cost me a bunch of money, but lets be honest i never would have actually received the care due to the cost, and kept me from having to deal with the pain forever.

Fantastic idea by my employer.

my employer hires dozens of physios and has a huge workforce with back, shoulder and repetitive strain injuries. It would never occur to them in a million years to offer those services to staff.

Spoke at somebody tonight, just for the fun of it, just to make them uncomfortable

Wish I'd been vulgar really disgusting, honestly can't stand a person who thinks themselves above a conversation.

My wife is looking at getting a part-time job with the local school district as para-professional support staff. In the application process they requested high school transcripts. She provided her diploma, but transcripts? For a part-time role? Who the hell has their high school transcripts at hand 30 years later? Especially funny because they told her at the hiring even that like everyone else they are having a hard time finding people so she was basically hired and just had to complete an application as a formality. Another level of funny is that one of the people running the program has been one of my wife's closest friends for the past 6 years we have been in Cali. Ok then.

So she called and told them that she had attached her diploma and they said, great, just give us your transcripts and you're good to go! So now she is jumping through hoops with the state of Washington to get 36 year old high school transcripts. For a part-time job. That she already provided a copy of her diploma (and her degree, don't forget that, she has a college degree) for. But they just can't hire her until she comes up with her transcripts. She found out the state of Washington have only digitized the past 25 years of transcripts or so, and they had to go to the archives to find hers. So it could be a 2-week wait. So we have been digging through boxes to find them in the garage, as we are sure we have a copy somewhere.

For a part-time job, that they are having a hard time filling with enough people to support the needs of the schools. And she can start immediately! As soon as we have those transcripts.

But we can't trust a diploma, has to be the full transcripts.

Good hell. I get reminded every day how ****ing stupid our government is, in all facets, and at all levels.

Here is another fun one I am fighting the city of Chino about. Over the last weekend we had a cop driving through our warehouse complex here, an area of about 15 warehouses of which 9 belong to our company. He ran into our own campus security team, and they chatted for a bit late on Saturday night. The security team mentioned we had been having some alarm issues on a couple of our buildings, but in NO WAY did he ask for any help with it. It is an alarm company issue and our own security team was on it. He just mentioned it as they cop asked why we he was at the building at that time on a Saturday night. The cop said "hey no problem, I will just keep an eye as I drive by, no biggie. I drive by a few times over the weekend."

So yesterday my security manager comes in and hands me a notice. We are being assessed $1500 for added police surveillance over the weekend, outside of normal hours, and a $500 emergency contact fee. So $2k for "sure I will keep an eye out when I drive by anyway". The kicker is we checked our surveillance footage and the only time we can confirm any cops were in the area at all was WHEN THIS GUY WAS TALKING TO OUR SECURITY TEAM. And at no other time during the weekend.

Of course we question the interaction between our security guy and the cop. First, I know my security manager, he is the best. In no way would he have "requested" anything like this. And, even better, he had recorded his interaction with the cop, because he is a person of color and he works in security so he has learned to kick on a recording device EVERY time he is around a cop. So we watched that, and it was completely benign. In fact in the video you can hear him saying "no worries bro, we got this" to the cops offer to keep an eye out.

So I am gathering all the info to dispute the charge. We already notified them we are disputing and they said it was denied, within like a half hour of us sending the dispute email, before we could even provide any evidence! LOL

But this is not my first rodeo, Nothing will come of it other than a wasted afternoon for me and my exec admin and we will still be stuck with the fine.

Sometimes I completely get the sentiment of **** the police.

I dont even know what high school transcripts are never even heard of those? What info do they contain? What classes she took and whatnot? Are they basically just report cards?
That is so weird

Yeah they are the basic record of classes and grade, for each year of high school. Like all of the end of year report cards we used to get. In college it makes more sense as prospective employers might want to see what kinds of classes you took and what your grades were on classes the employer thinks are important. But high school? I get that it is just their basic requirement, but it is a stupid thing to delay hiring on imho.

It's what "they" meant whenever they told you that it would go on you permanent record.

Welcome to my life of stretching every morning for an hour just to tie your shoelaces....

edit

In other news the ongoing issues complicating my affairs are in a holding pattern, who knows what will go on with that. Pretty sure I'll be the last person to know.

Yep, I do a stretching routine every morning and then a core strengthening routine to follow.

Got new glasses today. As a kid I used to love getting new glasses. My vision would be better, I could get cool new frames, etc. But now, it is just a hassle and frustration. I now have progressives, as I am getting old so now I can't see at any distance, thanks mother nature! So really that means if I get the angle JUST right, then I can see things clearly, otherwise everything is slightly blurry all the time. But it is obviously loads better than no glasses. I get that these are a modern miracle, but good hell is it irritating. I was never a candidate for laser eye surgery or anything because of the shape of my eye and the way my prescription was changing, so I missed out on that, and now at 52 it just isn't worth it when I would need to still wear glasses for middle distance and close up. So now I have to get used to new frames, because it is always an extra charge and they have to send your current glasses away for 2-4 weeks, to put new lenses in your existing frame. I will get used to it, but it is always irritating the first few weeks. Sometimes longer. That doesn't all even take the cost into account. I have a bad prescription, so I have to get the specialty lenses that are thinner, and triple the cost, of regular lenses. Otherwise I am wearing coke bottle bottom glasses like back in jr high, which weigh so much they fell off my face when I was the slightest bit sweaty. I also get the anti-glare and anti-scratch coatings and all that ****, and I add transitions so they function a little bit like sunglasses, although it isn't as dark as real sunglasses it at least cuts the glare to bearable. I try to get cheaper frames, but I have to opt for lighter frames so usually titanium or spring metal, which tend to be thinner and lighter and more flexible, because of course I have a huge head so there are always only like 6 or 8 pair at the optometrist that actually fit my gigantic head, so options are limited. So I shell out $500-$600, AFTER insurance "pays" for anything, and do so pretty much every year because I have wandering prescription that doesn't allow me to just keep the same pair year to year really. Anyway, hate this ****.

I had 20/13 vision when I was younger. I’ve noticed over the last year or so my eye sight has gotten worse. Today, when looking at films on On Demand, I mentioned to my wife how some of the titles were blurry to me.

Good times. Sort of think though the bottom rim of the glasses and the lens itself could sort of mask the perpetual bags I have under my eyes and make me therefore look super hot.

I feel your pain, LogGrad. So frustrating and expensive. I'm going to the eye doctor next month to get new glasses, and I dread the $600 price tag. I get all the stuff you have to get, although I haven't tried transitions yet.

Contacts worked well for me for several decades, but now I can't read anything with them. Might as well wear regular glasses if I'm going to have to wear readers all the time anyway.

I signed up for Mint which is like an online budget thing. I haven't really used it much. But at the beginning of the last few months I get text and email alerts that there has been a large transaction on my account. The ****ing program knows it's my mortgage payment but feels like sending me a scary alert anyway.
