Predict the Rudy Gobert trade

I told you where I think they rank. Average-ish... lets say in the 60-90 range. Where do you think they rank? Top 50? Gary Trent and OG Anunoby top 50 players in the league? Top 30? Tell us.

I think they are squarely in the top half of starters. OG is definitely top-50. Trent Jr I would say top-75.

It is fine to have average starters in the supporting cast, but... we lose an all star for that? Ugh. Well, if things are broken then I suppose, but..ugh...

OG is not average though he’s a top-50 player easily probably higher than that.

Rudy for OG and Trent allows us to move Royce to the bench. Off the bench, Royce would be excellent.
His strength is fit with premier players so I think moving him to the bench mitigates his overall utility.

I think the sweet spot is not playing him so many minutes but making it a point to mostly playing him with high usage players for fewer overall minutes. And also not making/letting him grind through knee injuries.

OK, most of the metrics I've seen have him as a bad to average defender.
I would say average is likely a better approximation... maybe slightly above average. He might be neutered a bit in a toned down system though. I just think we were so bad on the perimeter that average is good improvement... of course we will no longer have Rudy in this scenario so it likely needs to improve a whole lot.

Here's where they rank by some popular impact metrics:

RPM:
Trent Jr - 46th. OG - 95th

RAPTOR
Trent 124th, OG 139th

LEBRON
Trent 64th, OG 147th

EPM
Trent 69th, OG - 76th

The last little bit is where my heads at. If we keep Don he needs to be surrounded by guys that can make up for his defensive deficiencies. We need a guy who can take on the other team's best perimeter player or help when Don gets that guy. I don't think Trent could do that.

BTW, just in case people still don't realize what we have in Rudy, here are his impact metric rankings:

RPM: 6th

RAPTOR 3d

LEBRON 4th

EPM 10th
Trading Rudy for a package not centered on rookie scale players and picks is just insane.

Either way... to be good we need Donovan to play good defense... full stop.

To put together a Boston level defense you need like 3-4 good perimeter guys and some rim protection... we won't have enough good perimeter guys even with OG/Trent to make up for Donovan's defense if all we get is the effort displayed last year. The Toronto deal does not make us better... we may be worse... but we will be younger and different. The hope is to build from there I guess.

That's him on offense currently, he actually has better foot work than our over priced one dimensional player that doesn't take criticism well that rather work out in the weight room and box but not work on a weakness in his game. Do the Jazz pay him to improve his offensive capabilities or will the fanbase always make excuses for his inability to score?

I don’t trust this account but it makes a lot of sense. We literally need wings and Toronto can offer us those in a deal for Gobert.

We also have two TPE’s we can absorb Poeltl into from San Antonio.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a 3-team trade with Gobert to Toronto, OG/Trent Jr/Poeltl to us and draft compensation to San Antonio from Toronto.

We’d only add 6M in salary total and would be at 12 players and still under the luxury tax by 5.2M.
