Predict the Rudy Gobert trade

At the end of the day, Rudy Gobert for OG Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr might be the best trade all the way around.

- addresses perimeter defense
- addresses youth
- addresses athleticism
- saves us $4+ million which means we can make reasonable moves to get below the tax
- fits Toronto nicely so they have Rudy, Barnes, Fred, Siakim in clearly defined roles to make a very strong East contender

That would be a darn good Raptors team, to be honest.

I like that trade and then I run it through the trade machine and see Hollinger projects a minus 11 wins for the Jazz by doing this and I feel conflict.

There are about 150 starters in the league. Where do you think OG and Trent rank among those 150-ish starters? I thought I was kind of generous saying they are both average....

You tell me where you think guys who average 18 and 17 PPG who also play good defense rank among starters.

I told you where I think they rank. Average-ish... lets say in the 60-90 range. Where do you think they rank? Top 50? Gary Trent and OG Anunoby top 50 players in the league? Top 30? Tell us.

Sorry, but the Jazz are better off keeping Rudy and Don vs. 98% of all these trade ideas.

Jazz shouldn’t panic just because free agency creates arbitrary deadlines. Keep Rudy and Don (for now) and try to get younger and more athletic around them.

They should be looking to do whatever they can to move Conley, Gay, Bogdanovic, Clarkson and O’Neale (although his contract is easier to hold onto.)

Rudy for OG and Trent allows us to move Royce to the bench. Off the bench, Royce would be excellent.

No reason you have to trade Rudy for mediocre pieces to accomplish that. Jazz could’ve drafted any number of athletic wings over the last 5 years and done the same thing.
