Exactly. The Jazz are planners. What might look like rushing a decision to some is just the next step on their list. Afterall, Sloan's been on the fence of retirement every time he would extend his contract. The Jazz always have a backup plan or four.
Although, I do see your point. The Jazz should've at least interviewed some other people, just to be certain. Yet, why would they need to if the interview process was already done?
They've been auditioning Corbin for a few years now. I think he showed them what he could do in the summer leagues and as an assistant coach. It would make sense that the Jazz decided long before now.

I worry about that as well. However, I also realize that the coaching staff probably wanted to see the new guys and who the front office would bring in before they decided on what direction to go.
Some of us have been discussing how forcing the wrong offense on certain players results in poor performance. Also, installing a new offense, The Triangle Offense for example, takes a couple seasons to polish.
Based on player interviews, it sounds like they're only tweaking the offense. It also sounds like they've had input into the new system. Keep in mind, the players and coaching staff haven't been able to speak at all since the lockout started. They're now having to force an entire training camp and preseason into a fraction of the time.
Just give it time. Hopefully, by the All-Star break, they'll have a clear picture of what works and what doesn't. Personally, I don't think it'll take that long for the coaching staff to decide. I think certain players will have a harder time for a bit longer. As long as everyone works together, and stays positive, the Jazz tend to improve as the season goes on. Last season was an exception for obvious reasons.

I think, given the circumstances, it's totally understandable. I'm sure Ty was torn between implementing what he wanted to do, and to stay the course with what Jerry was doing. If I were thrown into that situation with less than half a season to go I'm not sure what I would do. Now that he's had a full off-season and will have a full season to implement his stuff, we should have a much better idea on what type of coach he'll be.

Why hire a first year head coach to coach a bunch of inexperienced youngsters??? I said all along lets bring in a veteran coach because the one thing young players in the league need is some sort of stability/consistency. Ideally that should come from a coach who's been a head coach for some time and a proven winner. I know there weren't many available, but there were definitely some. The last thing we needed was an emotional wreck who is learning on the fly.
Gojazz79 proved he knows nothing and is just a casual fan with no insight who got his feelings hurt by my over the top comments regarding Raja Bell. Corbin was a disgusting hire, especially after Johnson turned it down. Giving him an extension based on NOTHING outside of some mirage of stability to the fanbase is even more egregious.
I will be the first to admit I was way off should Ty prove to be a capable head coach. I understand the circumstances surrounding him when he first took over were unprecedented for any coach, but that's still no excuse for the piss poor job he did managing the future of our squad when the playoffs were clearly out of the picture.
To all the posters who are so genuinely offended by my Bell comments in my original post, I really just have to ask why? Me wishing that has ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING ON REALITY. Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd be a complete jerk who should be locked up, and worthy of your vitriol, had I said I'm going to give him a career ending injury. But me wishing anything, especially in the context of trying to prove my infatuation with the young talent on the wings, shouldn't get anyone upset as it is of no consequence.
Further proof: I've wished the Jazz won it all since I was 8 and look how that's turned out.

Man don't really know where to start with this, everybody is of course entitled to their opinions but I just wanted to add.
Phil retired with Jerry not as much turned down the job but that's semantics really I guess, however the Jazz knew Phil was older then Jerry and had an idea he may not want the HC so they had alternatives planned I guarantee it.
Corbin had been up and interviewed for several HC jobs the past 3 off seasons and most expected he would've been gone after last off season or the next, many sports site (ESPN, Yahoo etc..) had him on the top of the up and coming HC's.
As far as stability goes hiring within shows stability more so then hiring from outside and to further promote stability (not letting the inmates run the show) they didn't want him to be perceived as a lame duck coach or even an interim coach and have the players tune him out or whatever else can happen. So the best way to do that given the sudden turmoil and drama from last season is to not even give him the interim label and give him a contract, if he sucks that bad I'm sure the Miller family would just buy out his contract happens to coaches all the time.
I didn't see anything bad from Corbin last year aside from the timeout debate on Millsap's FT's but the season was a loss anyway so it was a good time to go through learning/growing pains last year. That's not to say he wont have more I'm sure he will Jerry had them he just got some out of the way with the Bulls. I'm not saying I know how Corbin will turn out or that I was for or against his hire just stating the facts as I see them and that I'm willing to give him a chance.

Yes. I watched basically every game last season, and watched his demeanor on the sidelines during critical phases of the game. It's as clear as day to me. All good coaches have poker faces throughout the game - with the exception of an occasional outburst at the ref - while Ty would show looks of sheer joy or bitter anguish depending on the situation as well as jumping on and off the bench, flailing his arms, etc. He lost sight several times and screwed up the rotation at pivotal points during games because he forgot he was supposed to make subs (being too wrapped up in the game).
Anyone else who watched extensively last year could tell you the same thing. Unfortunately I can't provide video evidence, but you'll be able to see what I'm talking about live in a few short weeks!!
All coaches get caught up in the game. Some coaches are very emotional during the game, others are poker-faced. Little secret for you ... this ain't poker.
I really have no opinion as to how good Corbin will be, but if you think being animated and into the game equates to emotional instability, you're a moran.

Oh yeah forgot to add, don't forget last year the coaching staff was down at least one coach and since then the Jazz have added 2 more coaches, so that should help balance some of the duties that Corbin had to manage last year.
