Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

The thing in the article that is most interesting is that everyone else is available for trade.

This is going to be a “to the studs” sort of thing, ain’t it?

Is this wise? With the new lottery rules, is all out tanking the best play, or is a softer tank better?

Which way do we give ourselves better odds to acquire Wenby? By being semi-competitive with some talented young guys, couldn’t we attach one or two to our trove of picks and trade up for Wemby? That would make next season more fun too if we are at least play-in competitive with a talented young team.

I dunno. We should probably just embrace the full tank and not half *** it, right? I hope we at least have some fun young players to watch. That‘s why I hope Toppin and Barrett are in the deal.
I think there are other moves lined up. Why is Ayton and Sexton not squared away yet? I think the Jazz are setting themselves up with a bunch of buy low 23 year old or younger players that will be fun to watch and hopefully one or more can flourish with the opportunity.

I think it's worth mentioning that there are a lot of kids in Utah with Donovan Mitchell jerseys who are going to be upset with this trade.
There's also a lot of kids in Utah with Mitchell jerseys who would be upset if the Jazz hold on to Mitchell and he leaves for lesser value or nothing later.

Kids will be upset no matter what. Might as well get a godfather haul out of it.

I can’t blame them; I’m shocked at how quickly this has fallen apart and don’t really love the idea of tanking. But the writing is on the wall, and I hate the idea of watching a gutless team like last years even more

This is a different topic….but this is always why the NBA is having viewership problems. The NBA is so championship or bust focused it makes it near impossible for a casual fan to enjoy. Nobody except for Jazz needs are actually excited about sucking badly next year.

Normally I agree, but the team last year despite it's solid record was so joyless to watch that I'm all for blowing it up.

A lot of the reason why it was joyless is because of the heavy expectations….really all that mattered was the championship, the end goal. Everything in between is worthless. I don’t think the league can prosper if the the focus continues to be so championship or bust oriented. For most people, there enjoyment of the Jazz is whether or not they win that time they watched them. They don’t care about what assets a team has. It’s just not the same when you’re winning 20 games and not 50. It’s quite absurd in the first place that it’s a good idea in the NBA to suck on purpose.

Having said that, the 2022 Jazz had the most horrible ways of losing possible.

This is the fruits of DL’s labors. We had some fun seasons for sure, but that game 6 loss to the Clippers last season was the day the music died.

The time to tinker with the lineup around Mitchell and Gobert was last offseason and after the bubble season. We missed that train, and instead signed the shambling corpse of Rudy Gay, used a FRP to get off Favors, somehow drafted ANOTHER undersized guard, and then overpaid to sign Mike Conley (the noise was we had to, but did we? It seems Mike may already be considered a negative trade asset not even a year into the deal)

We ****ed around (more accurately, we sat on our hands) and found out. It boggles the mind that we just kept running back the same lineups around Mitchell and Gobert with no other significant changes to the rotation. We compounded the problem by ****ing up literally every FA signing and draft pick on the margins.

This **** started getting stale around the edges two years ago, and we let it fester to the point that the only real option is to blow this thing up fantastically.

I would love the Knicks 23/25/27/29 picks plus the Mavericks 2023 1st and Bucks 2025 1st. Those are the 6 best picks out of the 8.
Because the knicks have multiple picks some years, if we take their 23/24/25/26, all could be unprotected and less wait time. The other picks have some protections and they are for likely playoff teams.

It’s possible our own picks will be the best of the lot for 23/24.

I want a ‘24 pick cause we don’t have one right now. Gotta catch ‘em all, right?

Can't wait for the lifetime movie when the Jazz get Simmons, Ayton and Sexyton for basically free and they all win a championship.
