Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

Tony's opinion on this trade idea kind of shocks me. Brown only has 2 years left on his contract and then he would almost certainly leave. This seems like a terrible idea for the Jazz and I would've expected Tony to quickly shoot it down.
Brown isn't the typical max contract star player, he was a top recruit and decided to go to UC Berkeley over a power conference school. I'd only make the trade if Brown also agreed to an extension as soon as it was finalized. But I actually think he's a star that we could potentially keep happy here, as I'd assume that he has a good relationship with both Ainge and Hardy. And in the scenario that we did trade for him we'd be doing it with him as the centerpiece for our rebuild, which is something I'd imagine he'd be happy about after being 2nd fiddle to Tatum and consistently mentioned in trade rumors.

Article from Hollinger kinda says what I have been saying the last little while on the Don trade... why are we saying we don't want players like RJ and Herro? You can lock them up for 4-5 years beyond this one and it will be a great deal. Will be even more true is you get them to take a slightly declining deal or flat and decline later. Neither guy is currently worth the max... but both guys could be values in 2-3 years when we are trying to be good... and would have more value than adding additional picks.
RJ looks like a potential cornerstone player if you believe that he can clean up his efficiency, giving Herro a near max deal would be a lot more risky, imo. I don't think either guy is worth even close to a max at this point though and if they were then their current team would've already extended them.

Barrett has flashes but his efficiency fell off of a cliff last season with a higher workload offensively. Dating back to his days at Duke he has never really been a great 3P shooter or finisher around the rim and at this point I think it's fair to assume that he just lacks that natural shooting touch you need to be a top tier scorer.

Herro has proven to be a pretty damn good scorer/shooter but it's hard to max him out when he doesn't provide much else. It's also not very encouraging when you see the Heat publicly calling out his lack of defense and saying that he hasn't shown enough to be penciled in as a starter over guys like Oladipo and Struss. He has also completely fallen off of a cliff in the postseason the last two years which I think is largely due to his lack of elite physical tools and being worn out at the end of the season.

I go back and forth at which one I'd prefer but right now I'd probably lean towards Herro because he has shown that he can be a key cog for a contending level team and if you want to move off of him in the future I think he fits pretty well with anyone as a scorer/instant offense type of guy. While Barrett definitely has more upside but if he doesn't take a substantial jump then his max deal could look pretty damn bad a couple of years down the road.

For me, this thread has become like a low grade drug that's oddly addicting because you live in a sh*t area of Wyoming and there is nothing else going on. The drug is so bad it's not even illegal yet, it's just sold at the sketchy gas station one county over. But I'm still trying it every day in hopes that it suddenly blows my mind......

I've got to stop this. This is a daily disappointment for me. I'm at that scary point where even a sh*tty outcome (example, Knicks give 3 protected first rounders and Grimes and Quickly) would be enough to at least sedate me. And that's not a good place. I'm going sober, guys. I'm learning to live with my existence and accept that Mitchell will simply be here next year, and through enough work with my sponsor, I have hopes that it will somehow all be ok.

If something actually happens we'll need a whole new thread. At this point, this is quasi-legal meth that's one molecule off and it's not even that fun.

I think it's time to accept that Don likely isn't moved before the season as the KD stuff will likely prevent any other big trades happening this offseason. I also think that we're pretty far apart in terms of what we want and what the Knicks are willing to offer for Donovan and Ainge isn't going to budge. So the most realistic scenario at this point is that he probably starts the season with us and if the Knicks struggle out of the gate then we'll probably come to an agreement during the season.

Mitchell Robinson is someone that we were reportedly interested in during our initial talks with the Knicks and he'll be eligible to be traded after December 15.

Knicks media guys act like they have leverage in discussions but the team with the star always has the leverage. We've seen guys like Harden, AD, and George force their way to a team with less time on their deal and the team that traded them still got a haul back. Leon Rose seat will also get significantly hotter if they don't trade for Donovan and start poorly this season, imo.

Let's make one more try with see what happen. Some people put the failure on the fact that the duo Don/Rudy did not match. Give the key of the truck to Don and see what we got.
